Chapter 397: Nate vs Water Dragon God
“Nate?”
Karameel furrowed her brows, certain she had heard that name somewhere before. Yet the man in front of her was undoubtedly someone she had never met before.
“I’m not here for you. I’m here for the Water Dragon God.”
Nate dropped his disguise, revealing a strikingly handsome face. The moment Karameel saw it, she finally recognized him.
“You’re the Magic Net’s creator!” she exclaimed in shock.
She had just been playing the [Dragon Hunter] game—developed by this very man—together with the Water Dragon God. Never in her wildest dreams had she expected to meet the developer in person so soon.
“You know me?”
Nate noticed the silver-white ring on her finger. The Magic Net had over a million users in the northern continent, but he hadn’t expected to find any of them in this city.
“Nate!”
At that moment, Wendy and Carla entered the temple from the depths of the sea. Karameel’s heart jolted. She asked nervously, “Did you follow the Water God’s messenger here? What’s your purpose?”
“She’s just an ordinary person. Wendy, Carla, keep an eye on her while I go meet the Water Dragon God.”
With that, Nate turned and strode deeper into the temple.
“Stay calm. We won’t hurt you,” Wendy said gently.
Carla snorted. “Just stand still and don’t try anything funny, okay?”
As they reverted to their original forms, Karameel’s eyes widened when she recognized Wendy. Behind her glasses, her gaze turned anxious.
“You’re Wendy, the Sky Sorceress of Ishgar!”
“Eh… Am I really that famous?” Wendy scratched her cheek, a hint of delight in her voice.
“It’s probably Fairy Tail that’s famous,” Carla remarked.
Karameel fell silent. She had seen Fairy Tail’s team return triumphantly to the capital—riding the Coal Dragon mount—just yesterday. Afterward, she had gone on the Magic Net’s forums and learned more about Fairy Tail, discovering that the Magic Net’s creator was also one of their mages.
“What are you planning?” Karameel’s expression changed abruptly. “Are you assassins sent by Elefseria?”
“Who’s that?”
Wendy and Carla exchanged confused glances.
…
Meanwhile, in the depths of the temple, Nate entered what looked like a lounge. Using his Six Eyes to perceive the flow of magic, he easily pinpointed the Water Dragon God.
In his humanoid form, the Water Dragon God had sharp horns, with long hair covering his left eye and strange markings near his exposed right one. At that moment, he reclined on a sofa, eyes closed as though lost in thought.
Nate noticed a silver ring on the Water Dragon God’s right index finger, identical to the ones used for the Magic Net.
“Playing the game?” Nate asked, walking up and placing a hand on the dragon’s forehead.
“Dragon Taming.”
Smack!
The Water Dragon God’s eyes snapped open. He reacted instantly, grabbing Nate’s wrist.
“It’s you!” he growled, gaze sharp. “The creator of the Magic Net—Nate! I’ve seen your photo on the forums!”
“Good evening, Water Dragon God.” Nate chuckled as he withdrew his hand. Wasting no time, he stated his purpose: “I’ve accepted the Hundred-Years Quest. My mission is to seal the Five God Dragons.”
“Elefseria sent you?”
Before Nate could reply, the Water Dragon God’s body dissolved like a soap bubble. A moment later, his voice echoed from outside the temple:
“I’m not ready to be sealed just yet!”
Nate frowned. In the original story, the Water Dragon God practically begged to be sealed. Turning to the window, he looked out into the deep ocean.
There, the Water Dragon God floated, shifting from his humanoid form into that of a massive dragon. Unlike dragons such as Igneel, his serpentine body was long and sleek. His forelimbs had transformed into wings, and a sharp horn protruded from his snout.
Enveloping himself in a pale, glowing magic shield, Nate stepped out the window and dove into the water.
“You’re far stronger than the Coal Dragon. Judging by your magic power, you’re on par with Acnologia,” he observed.
“Only by magic power,” the Water Dragon God replied coldly. “Four hundred years ago, some dragons fled Acnologia’s slaughter and took refuge on this continent. We, the Five God Dragons, are the survivors. Now, four centuries later, we’ve all surpassed Acnologia!”
Nate raised a skeptical brow. Since when did everyone claim to be stronger than the Black Dragon?
“I don’t want to fight you. Leave this place,” the Water Dragon God said.
Nate smiled faintly. “I don’t want to fight either. Just come with me willingly.”
The Water Dragon God sighed. “Words won’t work. I can’t fully control my power. Forgive me, human!”
“Huh?”
Nate’s eyes narrowed as the surrounding seawater swirled into a powerful whirlpool, trapping him and hurling him toward the surface.
Boom!
A massive pillar of water shot skyward, launching Nate into the clouds before bursting into countless droplets. He casually swept his hand, dispersing the attack—only to witness something even more astonishing.
The entire ocean began rising into the sky, forming massive walls of water that defied gravity. From within this aerial sea, the Water Dragon God emerged, his serpentine body glowing with a soft blue radiance that lit up the night sky.
“Magnificent magic,” Nate murmured. “In an aquatic environment, his power grows exponentially. But…”
He chuckled and clenched his fist, swinging it downward.
Boom!
A deafening shockwave seemed to shatter the very sky. The suspended ocean, maintained by the Water Dragon God’s power, fractured like glass, breaking into neat cubic sections. Deprived of their shape, those water blocks disintegrated and fell like torrential rain.
“Roar!”
The Water Dragon God’s bellow echoed as he halted the falling water mid-air. The water reversed its descent, forming another ocean above them. At the same time, a swirling vortex took shape in the sky, concentrating into a massive water cannon aimed at Nate.
“The entire ocean is under my command!” the dragon roared. “Leave, mage! I have no desire for a pointless battle!”
Boom!
The water cannon descended, engulfing Nate in a crushing torrent. More blasts followed in succession, each slamming down with overwhelming force. Encircled by relentless attacks, Nate’s magic shield began to crack under the onslaught.
“To break through my shield…impressive. You’ve earned your title as a Dragon God,” Nate thought. Crossing his arms, he suddenly swung them outward.
Boom!
A spherical shockwave exploded from his position, scattering the water into countless droplets. In an instant, the ocean around him was pushed back, leaving a vast empty space.
“What?”
The Water Dragon God froze, eyes wide in disbelief.
What kind of magic is this? Such overwhelming force…
Nate smirked. “Normal mages, even Dragon Slayers, would struggle against you. But me? I’m your species’ worst nightmare.”
He extended his right hand, conjuring a pitch-black magic circle.
“Dragon Taming.”
From the circle, nine shadowy chains emerged, snaking through the water to coil around the Water Dragon God.
“Impossible!”
The dragon’s pupils dilated, a primal dread washing over him.
What do you think?
