Chapter 201Teaching
A bunch of children across the age range sat in a classroom waiting for their ‘teacher’. Damian Wayne, Jon Kent, Nora Allen, Emiko Queen, and Anissa Pierce were the DC kids. Ciaran McCoy, Migel McCoy, Francesca McCoy, Franklin Richards, Valeria Richards, and Lorna Dane were from Marvel. I could understand why some of them were here but Lorna was Magneto’s ten-year-old daughter with similar powers.
The McCoy children made sense, their father wanted to sit in on the class himself but it was whittled down to children first. We were focusing on teaching the next generation magic and chi first before worrying about adults. Hank took an academic interest in the subject because it often broke the laws of reality. I walk in and float the chalk up to start writing my name as I walk into the room.
Damian chimed in first. “About time. You know we’re legally allowed to leave if you’re fifteen minutes late.” It was so abrupt it took me out of preparing to teach them as I looked at him confused. With his hand steepled like a scheming man, he continued his thought process. “I have decided to play the role of the class clown today as I haven’t ever done so in my normal schooling. I figured with you here I can make a bit of a scene without repercussions from my father.”
As if to prove he was being serious he blew a giant bubble of gum before saying. “Come on teach. We’re legally allowed to leave if you’re really boring.” I fight the urge to roll my eyes or hit him. It’s not my job to discipline him. He heavily derailed my thought process as I got back into the groove of it after another few seconds to remember I was here to teach.
“Alright, kids. I’m Mr. Storm and I’m here to teach you how to spot magic, how to make magical circles inside your body, and how to cast magic. We’ll also cover making a chi core once you grow a little bigger in the future. Once we do that, I’ll give you your specially-made wands to help you use your beginner-level spells.” I had ideas that this might be harder than I originally thought. Besides Damian and Emiko all of the other students had an active power inside their body.
Emiko was Oliver’s much younger sister. His father managed to trick an assassin into the sheets and after things worked out she abandoned her job once she found out she was pregnant. It didn’t stop Green Arrow’s father from being assassinated but it did give him an extra year before they sent another assassin who finished the job.
Damian already had two magic circles inside his body. He could already use magic, the wand was the only reason he was here and that might be why he was acting out because we were going to cover information he already knew. I started with Emiko as I explained. “I’m going to inject chi into your body. Normally you’d have to move it on your own but I’m going to make the first circle for all of you so you know how it’s done.”
I explained what I was doing as I did it to her. “Most mages will make one thick line to make their circle. That isn’t what I am doing as I think many much smaller circles connected together make a stronger circle that can handle more magical power. It also allows you to continuously improve the first two circles while a single big circle has to be done all at once.”
I make her first circle before handing over the magical book I had prepared and telling her to read the first part while I get everyone else caught up to her. The mutants were odd as I could slot the magical circle around the mutation gene. It made it harder for them to grow as the space was smaller but still easily doable and someone could possibly have a mutation and magic if they lucked into it.
Superboy was much harder. His body actively fought against the magic put into his body while the bit that did make it inside was slowly converted into whatever resource Kryptonians used for all their powers. It took about a dozen times the amount to make a single circle than it did for a normal person and for mutants it was about fifty percent more difficult.
Thunder was as easy as if she didn’t have a magical power. As I completed the circle I could feel it slowly absorbing the lightning element which would flavor all her spells and make lightning magic that much easier. Nora was another difficult one, I had to build the circle around the speed force and she was still too young to convert the whirlpool into a speed force core.
When I went to make the magical circle for Valeria it felt dramatically easier than it did for others. I think she might have been a natural magician and she could grow her magical power much faster than anyone else. At least until I went to make the core for Franklin and the moment I started to inject chi a magic circle appeared out of thin air like it had already been there. Straight up cheating but that’s what reality manipulators like him would do.
I had most of the wands prepared in advance but I had to make a few on the fly otherwise they’d be less effective. I had to get help from Jon and Anissa to flavor their wand's magic so it would be more attuned to them. I let them all read the first spell they’d learned as I waited patiently as Damian started to act up again. “I’m not sure why my father made me come to this class. I can already use magic, I just wanted the staff but it appears you’ve changed the tool into a wand.”
He held his hand towards the box of wands before focusing on his and speaking. “Emoc.” The wand floated over to his hand as he easily opened a hand-sized portal into his fridge and pulled out a box of Capri Suns. He drinks one down in its entirety, loudly sucking the last bit of liquid from the pouch as he puts it down an confirms his satisfaction with a loud ‘Ahh’ of contentment.
Don’t portal him into the ocean. You need all the children alive at the end of the class or Stephanie will be mad at you… I could drop a pie on his head… That wouldn’t be that bad, I’d probably get yelled at by Stephanie about being so childish… With a serious tone, I asked. “What’s that above your head Damian?” As he looked up a pie fell from thin air smearing cherry filling all over his face.
He wiped off his face as he licked some of the filling off his fingers. “This is a cheap Starkmart brand pie. If you’re going to play a prank on someone you should at least put your best foot forward. Honestly, I’m a bit disappointed in the simplicity of the prank. Can I at least get some whipped cream?” I summoned a plastic bucket of whipped cream that thudded down on his head.
With a disappointed sigh, he spoke again. “You see what I mean? This has zero effort put into it. You could have at least covered me with the whipped cream. Anyways. I guess this is a good example of the spell you have prepared for everyone. Esnaelc.” With that Damian made himself clean as the pie and crumbs disappeared from his body. He was about to speak again when I tossed him through a portal just off the Teen Titans island into the ocean. With a big smile on my face, I continued. “Alright, you heard him. Let’s dirty up the desk in front of you with some of these pies to learn the cleaning spell.”
What do you think?
