Chapter 203 Aura and Beacon

Chapter 203 Aura and Beacon

Aura’s Point of View

Beacon and I spied on the man who helped me survive the 100 trials. He looked normal… Well, as normal as someone who took the best aspects of the top one hundred most attractive men on the planet and put them into one human would look. He drank a coffee while reading the Watchtower news, which was an amalgamation of all the most important news stories around the world combined into one.

I selected the aura bundle when I first started out, and the twenty points I got were spent strengthening myself even further and acquiring extra survival powers… I also cranked up my charm to low superhuman, but who’s paying attention? Well, that would be my best friend Beacon who didn’t take the test. Our powers were focused on support. I could strengthen my teammates while weakening my enemies and she had the healing bundle. She could heal large wounds at the cost of being tired, heal smaller wounds at the cost of the person she healed becoming tired, and speed up the recovery of anyone in the same room she was in by four times.

That was also a power I had and it was multiplicative not additive with each other. That meant that when we were in the same room anyone injured would heal sixteen times faster. Our powers combined had saved hundreds if not thousands of lives already. We became fast friends the moment we joined the Justice League and were introduced. She… Had a rougher time with the group she appeared with than I did.

Someone found out she had a healing power and wanted to hold her hostage and sell her healing powers. She got lucky and the villain 100 fought against Batman assuming it would be an easy fight with his powers but he was quickly overwhelmed and taken to jail. Batman found her and brought her to the Watchtower where she hasn’t left since.

She has saved dozens of heroes, let alone all the injuries she cured. If you were to add up her accolades she might have saved the most out of everyone out of the 100. The man finished his coffee and made his way toward us. Damn! I knew I should have taken a stealth power instead of strengthening myself! He motioned for a seat in the cafeteria and sat down at the table forcing us to sit otherwise we’d look like weirdo creepers spying on a hot guy.

Damn his attractiveness! If he wasn’t so attractive then we could have just ignored him and no one would have assumed we were looking at him because he was hot. We sit down and the man sits in silence staring at the both of us before asking. “Why are you two spying on me?” Beacon wouldn’t answer, she was always shy even though she was super attractive in a meek way she was very demure and mindful in her actions.

“We’re just keeping an eye on you. You know, making sure you’re not up to something bad.” The man chuckled which sounded like honey in my ears. It was hard to dislike someone so charming and attractive. He asked. “Oh, and why do members of the Justice League have to spy on a member of the Justice League?” I looked at him in confusion. “Because you’re evil? I saw you kill those men.”

The man began to chuckle again before stopping. “If I didn’t kill them they’d have killed you then probably gone after me. I saved your lives while killing bad guys. No, why do you think just because you don’t kill you’re better than me.” He tapped on a watch on his wrist before asking. “Hey Hestia, how many people have I saved? No, that’s too broad since I’ve cured cancer and killed Trigon who could have destroyed the world making the people I saved theoretically the population of the entire world. Subtract the amount of people I killed by the yearly death tolls of the criminals I killed.”

I heard a robotic voice chime in. “Supervillains, the criminals you’ve publicly killed, or just everyone you’ve killed?” He clicked his tongue before answering. “Hell, might as well show us all three results. Add in how much money I saved taxpayers from villain’s destruction and the effect I’ve had on the drug distribution markets as well.”

Without even a second between him speaking, she began to rattle off numbers. “874,361 people from all the villains you’ve killed. 1,141,908 from every criminal you’re publicly known for killing. 27,914,627 estimated lives saved from the people you’ve killed behind the scenes. 3,490,556,203.67 is the estimated savings villains you killed would have done if you didn’t kill them and 1,750,500,000 is the estimated reduction on drugs you’ve removed from the streets through your underground businesses.”

Those numbers couldn’t be right… As if she heard my thoughts the robot voice spoke up. “Beacon, healer. Estimated heroes saved 804 from death—10,504 from long-term injuries and 14 years worth of recovery time from injuries removed from powers. You’ve saved 140 civilian lives and 3 villain lives, one of which has gone on to kill 114 people. The estimated number of lives saved from the heroes you’ve saved is 104,552. Aura, support. You’ve had very little effect on the outcome of most fights. Rounding the lives you’ve saved including the lives the heroes you saved save is 149. The biggest difference is the multiplicative effect of recovery time. You’re almost equal to Beacon if we include the bonus time for both of you at 12 years' worth of recovery time.”

He reached over and closed my open mouth as the robotic voice spoke in a condescending tone. “If you want to compare all of the lives saved by every single member of the 100 then you’re at least somewhere close to him but still less than ten percent. That is also not including his two biggest accomplishments of curing cancer and killing Trigon otherwise his numbers would be comparatively close with the entirety of the Justice Leauge for this year and that’s only because the Justice League went into space and saved other planets from destruction so the numbers are relatively inflated compared to most years.”

So this man I thought was a murderer has made bigger changes than all of the 100 put together. Not just by a little, he’s made huge changes to the world and it hasn’t even been an entire year yet. His smug grin just pisses me off. I get up and yell loud enough for the cafeteria to hear. “Fine. We won’t watch you anymore if you don’t want us to.”

He reached over grabbing my hand before I could storm off. “Who said that? It’s just, if you want to keep tabs on me then you can do so at the table I’m at. You can keep a much closer eye on me if you’re friends with me right? The biggest change you could make to the world is convincing me to be a better person.” That’s right, it makes far more sense for me to try and change him and the only way I can do that is if I’m friends with him.

“Alright then. We’re friends now then. Beacon, do you want a waffle or something? I’m hungry.” The man materialized two plates of breakfast food out of nowhere and before I could question he answered. “It’s from a waffle house in the middle of America. One of the highest-rated places for breakfast foods in the world and I prefer them over the other more pretentious ones. Portalling over a plate of steaks, mashed potatoes, and gravy for himself he kept going. “They also make a perfect medium well steak, with a medium rare steak on top.” Cutting into the meat he showed off a grey exterior of one with an almost fully pink of another as he ate both pieces together before humming in contentedness. “Mmm, perfection.”
