Chapter 311: 222 The Dark Knight's Grave Was Desecrated

Chapter 311: Chapter 222 The Dark Knight’s Grave Was Desecrated

As evening approached,

the setting sun cast its amber glow.

A carriage hurried through the woods, coming to an abrupt stop at the entrance of “Dawn Cemetery.” Following suit, a butler-like elderly man alighted, grasping a piece of black cloth as he rushed into the cemetery.

Thud, thud, thud…!

The elder pounded urgently on the wooden door of the cabin at the cemetery’s entrance.

The door quickly opened, and the Tomb Guardian was quite surprised to see the elder, but before he could utter a word, the elder placed the black cloth in the Tomb Guardian’s hands.

Realizing something, the Tomb Guardian’s pupils shrank, and the next second, he heard the elder speak breathlessly,

“Sir, the old madam… has passed away.”

The Tomb Guardian thought he had heard wrong, so he asked for confirmation.

With a heavy sigh, and a somber, earnest look on his face, the old butler shattered any flicker of hope in the Tomb Guardian’s heart.

The Tomb Guardian, who thought he was long accustomed to life and death, suddenly felt a surge of grief upon hearing the news of his mother’s passing.

“How… how is that possible? Mother was in good health, just yesterday she was singing in the garden…!”

“After lunch, the old madam was watering the flowers in the garden when she was struck in the head by a small stone that came from outside the courtyard… The officer said it might have been the mischief of some children.”

“Damn it!”

The Tomb Guardian’s face darkened, he clutched the black cloth and rushed out of the cabin, sprinting towards the carriage.

The elder chased after him, shouting something, but his voice grew fainter and harder to discern with distance.

The Tomb Guardian left in such a hurry that he didn’t close the cabin door, and the big dog Paul, curious, ran out and began to roam the cemetery excitedly.

Sniffing here and inspecting there, Paul unintentionally arrived in front of a little girl’s tombstone, where the sight of a rabbit doll piqued his interest.

Paul gripped the doll in his jaws, shaking it vigorously from side to side like prey, then took off running with it in his mouth.

The gold pound that the girl’s father had placed inside the doll’s embrace flew in a parabola, glancing off another tombstone with a ting, bouncing a couple of times, before finally rolling to a stop in front of a grave.

On this grave was inscribed, “The Baisworff Couple’s Joint Tomb.”

Deep into the night,

the Purple Moon hung high.

In a corner of the cemetery, two figures clambered over the fence. These were two men in overalls and berets, carrying large bags and iron shovels, creeping forward with great caution.

“Hey, should we really be doing this, Turner?” one man asked nervously.

“If we don’t get the money soon, how can we take the kids and leave? They’re murderers!” the other man responded in a hushed tone, his voice laden with anger and irritation.

“Dammit! So much trouble!”

“I’ve heard this cemetery holds the remains of nobility; we should find some valuable burial artifacts.”

“Be careful not to get caught by the Tomb Guardian.”@@novelbin@@

As the two men continued their search, they suddenly caught a glimpse of something shining out of the corner of their eye.

“What is that…?!”

Eagerly, they ran over and in front of an ordinary tombstone, they discovered a gold coin.

“Gold Pounds! My god!”

“This grave must belong to someone wealthy.”

Handling the gold coin, their faces were lit with excitement.

“Turner, let’s dig up this one; get to work!”

“Alright! No problem!”

On a train,

Chen Lun sat in an ordinary carriage, at a window seat.

He had traveled a considerable distance through the Spirit World Shuttle, and upon nearing Sunflower City, he exited the Spirit World and opted to enter the city by train.

This avoided any potential ambushes in the Spirit World; he always kept the Black Knight’s warning in mind.

After observing the passing scenery for a while, Chen Lun took out an object the size of a pigeon’s egg, a black claw-shaped armband.

[C Level Mysterious Object – Claw Armband]

Item Description: A bracer imbued with the power of flesh; it is shaped like a black claw with four razor-sharp fingers. It seems to be waiting for an opportunity, to slice open your chest when you’re least expecting it.

Wearing this armband grants the user increased strength, making the body more powerful and transforming the fingers into dark, sharp claws.

It might have originated from a Church Priest and contains the power released after his death. After indulging in a feast, one becomes a beast, with only a strong body capable of bearing the blessings of the Gods.

Item Effects: When worn, Life Points +200, Strength +5, Endurance +5. It allows the palm to transform into Ghoul claws.

Item Cost: Every once in a while, it must be fed a fleshly corpse. (More than 50 kilograms, not limited to humans)

‘Hmm… the effect is strong, and it’s one grade higher than the Surging Badge, a good replacement.’

Chen Lun removed the Ghost-face Badge pinned to his chest, obtained through killing the Priest Carter when he first traversed, an object that had accompanied him for a long time. But now, the enhancement it provided had become optional.

‘Pity, they can’t be worn at the same time.’

Chen Lun silently sighed and put on the Claw Armband.

There is an underlying rule with Mysterious Objects; similar ones can’t be used simultaneously, as they would conflict.

Even though he didn’t know the exact mechanics, Chen Lun understood.

After all, if it were possible, one could collect a multitude of low-level, low-cost Mysterious Objects that enhanced Attributes; the combined effect would be akin to creating a “Superman.”

Here in the patched-up river.
