Chen Lun returned to the present, appearing in the manor’s backyard.
He was planning to go to the living room to find something to eat when he suddenly sensed something, stopped in his tracks, and turned his head to the side.
From the grassy lawn of the garden, a tall gentleman slowly emerged from the air.
He had dark brown hair mixed with a few strands of white, a face worn by time with pronounced features, and his eyes calmly watched Chen Lun, smiling faintly.
Chen Lun looked at the unfamiliar middle-aged man and quickly recognized a familiar figure in his mind. Though surprised in his heart, he responded with a smile on the surface and walked forward to greet him.
“Mr. Bales, welcome,”
he greeted the man.
“You look especially handsome in your attire today.”
Mr. Bales was wearing a sharp black suit, shiny shoes, and a tidy bowtie, his vertical and refined appearance fully displaying his grandeur.
A yellow Youlan flower was pinned to his chest.
“This is what I wore when I married Youlan many years ago, and I haven’t touched it for a long time,” Bales said in his husky voice.
“Thank you for the honor, Mr. Bales,”
Chen Lun said with a slight start, quickly continuing.
He gestured invitingly with his hand and slowly led Bales towards the villa.
“Forgive me for not preparing in advance, but I will bring you a special wine for dinner, hoping you will enjoy it.”
Chen Lun said.
Bales waved his hand lightly, not minding too much:
“It’s my fault for not informing you in advance, arriving so suddenly… and as for the wine you mentioned, I’m looking forward to it, Jack.”
When the two entered the villa,
Chen Lun invited Mr. Bales to take a seat and personally brewed him a cup of tea.
Drinking the tea, Bales slightly lifted his head, as if he sensed the presence of Noah and Maggie and the others upstairs.
“Your team is quite impressive; it reminds me of my old teammates,”
he said with a smile.
“It seems they all trust you greatly and are also talented followers.”
“Thank you for your compliment,”
Chen Lun replied.
At this moment, he asked Mr. Bales to wait for a moment, then got up, went upstairs, and knocked on Floey’s door.
“What is it?”
Floey sounded like she had not yet woken up, her tone lazy.
Chen Lun opened his mouth to speak but found it challenging to explain at once, so he said instead:
“Floey, a relative of yours has come to visit… His name is Bales Wolff, and I think, in a while, he will tell you about some things.”
“A relative?”
Floey sounded surprised.
She immediately furrowed her beautiful brows.
After her brother died, her parents had sold her to the Church, and she had tried to find out about her parents through various channels, but they hadn’t lived much longer.
Her father was killed by a gang due to gambling debts, and her mother also died of illness, much like many others in the lower classes. Floey believed she had no blood relatives left in this world.
How could a relative suddenly appear?
“The Wolff Family… isn’t that the fake identity you created for me?”
Floey took out the family crest, puzzled.
Chen Lun nodded, then shook his head.
“That was indeed the case at first, but later I realized that you are very likely to be the true descendant of this family, Floey… the specific circumstances, Mr. Bales should tell you.”
Floey, appearing thoughtful, nodded her head without speaking further.
A moment later.
She changed into a black dress and, following Chen Lun, slowly descended the stairs.
It was not until Floey sensed the middle-aged man in the living room that she stopped, feeling a miraculous connection that she had never experienced before.
Even the potted plant inside her began to stir with emotion.
“Floey? Child, come here.”
Bales looked at Floey with a gentle expression and beckoned to her softly.
Floey turned to look at Chen Lun, who nodded at her.
Only then did the blind girl start walking towards the sofa.
Chen Lun stood his ground, choosing not to follow; he wanted to give Floey some proper space to talk with this sole relative still left in the world.
Just as Chen Lun was about to turn and leave, he suddenly found his hand being held by Floey.
Looking up, he saw Floey turning back to him, her face wearing a slightly nervous expression, pursing her lips.
She didn’t speak, but her actions told Chen Lun not to leave.
“Alright, I’ll accompany you,” Chen Lun said, chuckling softly.
Floey’s palm was a bit icy, clearly sweating, but feeling the warmth from Chen Lun, her heart settled a little.@@novelbin@@
It seemed that, as long as Chen Lun was by her side, Floey wouldn’t feel nervous or afraid.
Half an hour later.
Mr. Bales stopped speaking and silently took a sip of tea.
Across the coffee table, Floey maintained a look of astonishment and complexity.
Chen Lun sat by her side, his wrist gripped tightly by Floey, clearly indicating her agitation.
“So that’s how it is… I am a blood relation of the family, cast away, one who escaped calamity and ultimately survived.
And the potted plant is an ancestor; no wonder it occasionally conveys emotions of caring for me. My ease of using it also comes from the bond of blood.”
Floey’s ethereal voice whispered.
Her head was slightly lowered, with pale golden strands of hair falling from her forehead.
“Bales… Uncle, if as you say, I am the last remaining descendant of the family besides you, am I then burdened with the mission to revitalize the family?”
Floey raised her head, her tone somewhat cold.
“If that’s the case, I might not be able to…”
She shook her head and looked towards Chen Lun beside her.
“Floey is long gone; I was saved by Lord Jack, and I will only follow him, willing to die for him… The matters of the Wolff Family do not concern me.”
Bales’s hand paused with the teacup but then he chuckled lightly, his eyes showing admiration.
“True to the blood of the Wolves.”
He put down the teacup, took out a yellow orchid from his chest, and gently placed it in his palm.
“Child, stick to your own choices, follow your king, until forever… The fall and even the destruction of the Wolff Family is fated, a Curse from the Gods that has long been past the point of return.
The so-called duty, even if there were one, I would not impose it upon you.”
Bales sniffed the orchid, his gaze tender.
“I only hope that you can live well, and live well with the one you love.”
He raised his head to look at Floey.
“If anyone comes to destroy all this, I, as your elder, will not agree.”
Bales’s tone was indifferent.
Floey’s pretty little mouth opened slightly, but she was unable to speak.
What do you think?
