Chapter 58 - 58 Depressed Kate (Part 2)
Chapter 58: Chapter 58 Depressed Kate (Part 2)
Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation
“Ding dong, ding dong,” the doorbell rang. Adrian, who had been reading, promptly stood up holding Emma, tidied his clothes, and walked a few steps to the door with a smile, opened it, and said, “Hi, Kate.”
Kate was about to rush into his arms but stopped after only two steps, looking puzzled at the little girl in Adrian’s arms: “Who is this?”
“Oh, this is Emma,” Adrian introduced, then added, “My daughter.”@@novelbin@@
“Your… your… your daughter?!” Kate asked in disbelief, her eyes wide with shock.
“What, do you think… it’s very abnormal for a 23-year-old man to have a daughter just over 1 year old?” Adrian asked in a normal tone.
“No… I… you…” Poor Kate was still in shock and couldn’t recover.
“Alright, I’m just joking,” Adrian laughed heartily, “Emma isn’t my daughter.”
“Ed!” Realizing she had been tricked, Kate immediately yelled in anger, her fists beating like raindrops on Adrian’s body, “How could you do this! How could you do this!”
Barely a couple of hits, a sharp cry came from the little girl in Adrian’s arms, who had been secretly observing Kate and suddenly screamed and waved her arms at her. Frightened, Kate hastily stopped her hands and looked at the little girl, at a loss.
“Calm down, Emma, calm down, it’s nothing, she was just teasing me, understand? Just teasing,” Adrian hurried to soothe the little girl in his arms, gently patting and rocking her. Emma screamed and fussed for a while before finally calming down, glaring resentfully at Kate before snuggling into Adrian’s arms, holding him tightly.
“Did I… did I do something wrong?” Kate stood there awkwardly, looking hesitantly at Adrian and little Emma in his arms.
“No, nothing, it’s just… Emma is a bit sensitive, don’t worry,” Adrian explained slightly, “How about this, I was planning to take her to the nearby park for a walk, join us, and I’ll explain everything to you on the way.”
Saying so, he then turned his head toward the inside and shouted, “Mrs. Marson, we can go now.”
Kate, still a little confused but saying nothing more, followed behind Adrian.
During the two-hour stroll in the park, Adrian explained everything from start to finish. With Mrs. Marson, who knew some of the details, Kate quickly threw away her little bit of grievance and puzzlement as she understood the whole situation and then wanted to compassionately comfort the orphaned Emma with burgeoning maternal instinct.
Unfortunately, the little girl gave her no face. Every time Kate tried to get close to her, Emma would protest with screams, then wave her arms to push her away. In the end, Kate was too depressed to speak, but Adrian couldn’t help but laugh many times.
“I really don’t get it, I was just joking, punching you a few times, why does she hate me so much?” Kate leaned against the door, watching Adrian taking care of Emma under the dim bedside lamp, asking somewhat unwillingly. Despite that, her eyes were brimming with affection, likely because she found the scene heartwarming.
Adrian gestured for silence and then carefully unwrapped Emma’s arms and got off the bed. After turning off the light, he led Kate outside, saying, “Let’s go out first, don’t talk here, don’t wake the little one.”
The two went to the living room, sat down, poured two glasses of water, and then suddenly didn’t know what to say as they looked at each other.
“Um… since Mrs. Marson was hired by Mr. Russell to take care of Emma, why doesn’t she stay here,” after thinking for a while, Kate asked such a question.
“Just today, because… you came,” Adrian shrugged.
Kate first looked puzzled but then thought of something, and an odd smile appeared at the corner of her mouth. The two then stared at each other for a while, finally both bursting into laughter. Then Kate threw herself into Adrian’s arms without any reservations, embracing her lover with no more barriers and separations.
“Oh, this place finally belongs to me,” Kate sighed, resting her head on Adrian’s chest as she snuggled to get more of Adrian’s scent.
“What, are you getting jealous of a little girl?” holding the soft body in his arms, Adrian jokingly asked.
“Yes, that little one hating me is fine, but monopolizing you the whole evening is a bit too much,” Kate said angrily, her appearance quite akin to Emma’s at 1 year old.
However, Kate soon adjusted, sighed, and then rested her head on Adrian’s shoulder, closing her eyes and whispering in his ear, “I’m sorry, Ed.”
“Sorry? For what?” Adrian asked somewhat surprised.
“Just this afternoon, I was annoyed at you for not calling me,” Kate murmured softly, lifting her body slightly to gaze into Adrian’s eyes as though trying to say something, but ultimately, she said nothing.
“Fool, no need to apologize to me,” Adrian tenderly caressed her cheek, “This shows how important I am in your heart. If anyone should apologize, it should be me, I got so busy I even forgot to give you a call.”
“I understand, after all, such a big thing happened,” Kate smiled slightly.
“No, no, I’m serious, Kate,” Adrian cupped her face in his hands, “I originally had countless opportunities to call you. I’ve been using video calls to communicate with Los Angeles for the past two days, remotely managing the post-production of my new movie, yet never thought that someone was waiting for me in London. If it weren’t for Mrs. Marson’s words reminding me today, I don’t know how much longer it would have taken me to remember.”
He leaned his forehead against hers, sighing, “So, it should be me who says sorry, men should not and must not let women apologize in such matters.”
Kate listened quietly until Adrian finished speaking, then in the next second, she sealed Adrian’s lips with her own. They kissed passionately from the start, after being apart for more than two months, the yearning from the bottom of their hearts moved their hands as well.
Soon, Kate, straddling Adrian, felt his reaction. In gasping breaths, she raised her head, her half-closed sultry eyes gazing at her lover, her hand moving to unfasten his belt before delving inside.
“Sometimes… I find it really hard to satisfy you…” Kate breathed heavily.
“Is that so?” Adrian chuckled, feeling Kate’s fingers, his hands roaming her shapely body, “No worries, you still have your hands, your mouth, and…”
“What are you doing!” Kate suddenly cried out in surprise because Adrian’s hand slid down to her buttocks and into the crease, even through her trousers it felt overwhelming.
“Any problem with that?” Adrian asked playfully, his hand moving further down.
“No, not there… can’t…” Kate gritted her teeth and said, “or else… I’ll be rude!”
Saying this, her hand pinched heavily.
“Haha… you really are… looks like we both have a handle on each other, care to make a deal, Miss Beckinsale.”
“Of course… how do you plan to deal, Mr. Cowell?”
“Oh, very simple, you’re about to find out…”
Just as their passion was about to explode, a cry suddenly came from upstairs, like a bucket of cold water dousing Adrian’s fire.
“Damn, it’s time,” he said with a wry smile, swiftly helping Kate up and quickly tidying his clothes.Update by n0vgo. co
Just as he finished, the sobbing figure of the little girl appeared at the staircase’s edge, and Adrian had to go over and hold her, soothing her kindly. After several minutes, Emma finally stopped crying, and then he picked her up, shrugged at Kate, who looked forlorn, and walked upstairs.
This peculiar life continued, with Kate now by Adrian’s side. Russell, upon learning this, not only had no objections but welcomed her warmly. Emma’s condition gradually improved with time and Adrian’s cooperation. Her facial expressions became richer, she spoke more often, and she gradually accepted Mrs. Marson, at least occasionally letting her carry her.
However, Kate was not so lucky. Whenever she tried to approach Emma, trying to endear herself to her, the little girl would emit a watchful look, then snuggle into Adrian’s arms. What’s more exasperating for Kate was whenever she and Adrian got close, the little girl always found ways to squeeze in between them, clinging to Adrian like a koala, glaring at Kate with a gaze that seemed to declare, “This is mine, don’t think you can take it!”
“I really don’t know what to do anymore,” Kate complained to Adrian more than once.
“Look on the bright side, it’ll be fine,” Adrian always comforted her.
Since the doctor said psychological treatment was starting to show effects, Emma would soon recover. In fact, she behaved very well at the funeral. The Watsons were interred at the end of June, on a drizzly day—never rely on London’s good weather—Adrian didn’t bother with why the funeral had been delayed until now. He simply sat in the front row holding Emma, listened to the priest’s prayers, and then mourned the deceased.
Emma remained solemn throughout, somewhat bewildered but not crying. However, Adrian vividly remembered how she sobbed uncontrollably when he took her to see her parents’ bodies a few days before the burial. That night, as he slept with her, she clutched his pajamas tightly, not letting go even in the most restful slumber.
“These suddenly built-up negative emotions, because the child is too young to self-adjust, are like punching a hole in a rubber tube to let the water slowly flow out, but occasionally releasing it for a rapid venting is also beneficial. Mutually adjusting this way allows the child to get better as quickly as possible,” said Doctor Sean, suggesting Emma say goodbye to her parents’ bodies in private.
You will be okay, Emma, and your future will be bright, I promise.
(This storyline is finally coming to an end. To be honest, as a pseudo-reasonable person, I felt strange writing this part. Continue to ask for recommendations and collections; other new books update three times a day, but each update is 2000 words, I update twice a day, each time with 3000 words.)
What do you think?
