Chapter 78: A Good Man?
Chapter 78: Chapter 78: A Good Man?
“Honestly, it wasn’t romantic at all; as someone who was involved, I really didn’t feel that way at the time.” Kate shrugged and couldn’t help thinking again about her mischief back then. If it hadn’t been for that conflict, what would it be like now?
“So, what kind of person is Adrian in your eyes?” Emily didn’t dwell on that topic and went straight into the next round. Every woman was naturally curious about such gossip.
“Well… how do I put this, most of the time he was perfect, thoughtful, humorous, witty, very tasteful, empathetic, always seemed to know what you were thinking; extremely patient, never complained when shopping with me, and he was very knowledgeable — you could never see through what he was thinking, very mysterious, yet he somehow gave a sense of security, there couldn’t be a better lover,” Kate reminisced, her sweet smile as if she was lost in those wonderful memories and couldn’t pull herself away.
But her expression quickly tightened, and she huffed lightly, “Unfortunately, that’s only most of the time, sometimes he really likes to play tricks on people. He seemed to enjoy seeing me frustrated and unable to retaliate; he could become very cutting when making movies, and if you annoyed him when he was not in a good mood, he would surely leave you riddled with sarcastic wounds; and he held grudges, even long after an incident had passed, he would bring it up now and then to remind you of what you owed him.”
Speaking of this, Kate suddenly bit her lip in irritation. Even now, Adrian would still bring up that prank in front of her, saying it was her stain and she shouldn’t forget it — which was just infuriating!
“It seems quite contradictory,” Emily commented, touching her chin.
“People are inherently contradictory, aren’t they?” Kate sighed.
“By the way, I wanted to know…” Emily’s expression became a bit mischievous, “Kate, was your first time with Adrian?”
“Well…” Kate looked at her gloomily, and finally nodded in admission, “Yes.”
“How did it feel? When I was with Mike, I almost passed out from the pain; that guy didn’t understand anything.” Emily made a face but then seemed excited as she looked at Kate. It was just too normal for female friends to discuss these things in private.
“It was okay,” Kate took a deep breath, “Ed was very gentle. It hurt a bit at the beginning, but then I quickly got used to it under his guidance, and in the end… it was almost like flying high in the sky… ”
“Wow,” Emily’s eyes widened, “So you’re saying, your first time you reached…”
Even though she didn’t say it out loud, Emily’s gesture told Kate what she wanted to say.
“Yes, that’s right,” Kate didn’t deny it.
“That means, your boyfriend must be great in bed,” Emily said with a tone of envy and teasing.
“Bed kung fu…” Kate rolled her eyes, “Emily!”
“Okay, okay, I’ll stop talking about it. I have to go out and help with their party, so you just stay in the dorm and take your time,” Emily chuckled, made a silly face, then happily greeted Kate and left after gathering her things.
Watching her leave, Kate put down the book in her hand and sighed deeply, rubbing her temples. Certain images that would make one blush suddenly flashed through her mind — those passion-filled, soul-destroying scenes had never been as clear as now.
“Damn it, why am I thinking about this! Damn Emily!” Kate covered her forehead.
But… well, what Emily said was… in a sense correct. Although a bit embarrassed, Kate had to admit that point. A recent scene in the airplane’s lavatory suddenly popped into her mind, the narrow space made any large movements difficult, and only the lower body could move. Even so, amidst that intense frequency, she still…
No! That’s not it, it was mainly because there were people outside! Kate suddenly swung her hand angrily. After the deed was done and she came out of the restroom, the look of surprise on the face of the middle-aged man outside the door made Kate, still savoring the moment, wish she could have crawled into a hole — it was like being caught in the act of theft, full of nerves, embarrassment, and… excitement!
“Ed, you jerk, you’re always like this!” Kate exclaimed with irritation as she tossed and turned on the sofa, unable to concentrate on her book any longer. Although her tone was full of resentment, after checking the time and flipping through her notepad, she called a taxi and headed straight for Beverly Hills.
“Kate? That’s unexpected; aren’t you supposed to be at school?” Adrian was somewhat surprised by her arrival.
Originally intent on lashing out with a few harsh words, Kate moved her mouth but ended up just sighing softly and hugging him instead, not even knowing herself why she had come over at this time when the evening lights were just coming on.
“I just… missed you a little,” Kate murmured, her head resting on Adrian’s shoulder with a bitter smile.
“Come in first; the sun has set, and it’s going to get very cold,” Adrian, wrapping his arm around Kate, walked her into the living room. “I guess you probably haven’t had dinner yet, do you need something to eat? Mrs. Galen has already gone home, so I’m afraid you’ll have to settle for my cooking.”@@novelbin@@
“That’s okay, I… I’m not hungry,” Kate said in a low voice, settling herself on the sofa.
“How can you not be hungry? Of course, if you think my cooking isn’t up to par, then we can just order takeout,” Adrian poured her a glass of water.
“No, I mean…” Kate sighed inwardly, “let’s try what you’ve cooked.”
“All right,” Adrian said with a slight smile, “but first I need to find you something to wear.”
He went upstairs and came back down with a beige long coat in his hand: “Put this on; it’s going to get much colder in the evening.”
This was the second time he had reminded her, and Kate silently put on the coat, then watched as Adrian left the living room. She was lost in thought for a good while before she slowly followed him.
As she opened the kitchen door, the sound of a knife hitting the chopping board rang out. Adrian, who had taken off his coat and was busy at the kitchen counter, looked up when he heard her come in and gave her a slight smile: “Don’t worry, it’ll be ready soon.”
Kate smiled back but didn’t say anything, just leaning against the doorframe with her arms crossed, watching Adrian. She had eaten Adrian’s cooking before and, to be honest, it was merely average, but… how many men are willing to cook for their women?
She touched the coat she was wearing and sighed softly in her heart, just as she had told Emily that afternoon, Adrian was indeed very considerate and understanding, and even if he had some flaws, so what? Perfect people didn’t exist.
With that thought, a slight smile formed on Kate’s lips, and she walked over to hug Adrian from behind.
“What’s up?” Adrian paused and asked, puzzled.
“Nothing, I just wanted to hold you like this,” Kate whispered in reply. He was a good man; she couldn’t let him go.
“Alright, Miss Beckinsale, I’m still making dinner for you,” Adrian sighed, “and then I have to rush to write the screenplay.”
“Rushing to write a screenplay?” Kate, surprised, peeked over his shoulder, “but you haven’t even finished the post-production for your new movie.”
“Yes, I know. I work on post-production during the day and write the screenplay at night. You know, when inspiration strikes, I always want to get it down right away. Do you remember the robbery we experienced at the restaurant last Thanksgiving? I already had a vague idea back then, and it has been dragging on for a year now.”
