Chapter 68 - Magic Beast Taner2
Even the Fenrir seemed bewildered by the sudden intruder.
It held back its killing intent for now and stared fixedly at the Vorpal Bunny.
In that tense moment, Allen snapped to attention and shouted in monster language.
『H-Hey! Get out of here, quick! 』
『Why?』
The Vorpal Bunny tilted its head to the side.
The gesture itself was comical and peaceful. But the situation was far too critical for that.
Even so, the Vorpal Bunny didn’t budge, and just chirped cheerfully.
“We all came out here together, so we’re gonna stay outside a bit longer~!”
"... Everyone?"
Allen tilted his head at the strange word. Just then—
Bang!!
"Whoa?!"
A terrifying rumble echoed through the air as numerous shadows descended upon the plains.
An ancient dragon boasting a lifespan of 10,000 years, a phoenix clad in flames, a chimera with eagle wings and a lion's body...
Then the back gate of the zoo opened, and wingless monsters came out one after another.
They were likely monsters that had been kept or protected by the zoo. But they were moving in perfect order, more like a parade than an escape.
Allen could only watch in amazement...
“Ah! Allen!”
“Charlotte!?”
Riding atop a Hell Capybara, Charlotte approached.
The other monsters calmly parted to make way for her and stood by quietly. Allen rushed over to her in a panic.
“W-What is all this!? What happened to Fenrir’s pup!?”
"Of course... it's fine!"
The moment Charlotte smiled,
A large shadow flew over Allen and the others' heads.
A large shadow landed lightly on the ground... the injured silver Fenrir. Though its fur was dirty, its presence exuded strength.
The baby Fenrir faced its mother and howled with all its might.
“Grrr, ruff!”
"Gaw...?"
The parent narrowed their eyes and listened intently to the pup’s voice.
Her killing intent faded, and her expression softened.
Apparently, the pup was explaining what had happened.
Charlotte let out a relieved sigh.
"After Allen left, I tried my best to talk to him. He understood and I was able to treat him properly!"
“Y-You really did it…”
Allen sighed. But even with that resolved, a new mystery remained. He glanced around at the orderly monsters and asked in a low voice.
"So, what is this...?"
"Well, when I went to see Fenrir and Allen... they all said they were worried about me so they'd follow me... and then..."
“Wait… you can understand monster language!?”
“Y-Yeah. Kind of… I guess I’ve gotten the hang of it!”
Charlotte said nonchalantly.
It took Allen about six months to learn the basics of monster language, but...
(If she gets proper training… she might become a magic beast tamer who could stand shoulder to shoulder with me…)
The strongest monster tamer standing next to the strongest demon lord.
It looks like they will be an invincible tag team.
Just when I had that premonition, that happened.
"Garuu..."
"Whoa"
A low growl echoed right behind him, making Allen flinch.
He turned to see Fenrir’s mother standing there.
Looking down at Allen, she pointed with her chin at the frozen children.
Charlotte whispered quietly to him.
“She says she won’t attack anymore, so… could you let them go?”
“A-Ah. Understood.”
With a snap of his fingers, the ice instantly melted, freeing the siblings.
They shook their bodies to shake off the water, and Fenrir’s mother looked visibly relieved. She turned as if to leave but…
"Ah, well, wait a minute, Mom!"
"..."
Charlotte called out to her back.
Fenrir’s mother turned slowly. Charlotte pointed to the injured pup and bowed deeply.
"Please leave the child here for one more day. His injuries have almost healed, but he still needs to be examined... please."
"..."
Fenrir gazed at Charlotte with his one eye.
In the midst of the tense atmosphere, Allen braced himself, but... things didn't turn out as he'd feared.
"Garuu..."
“Eep!”
Fenrir licked Charlotte’s face with her large tongue.
The injured pup snuggled up to her, rubbing affectionately. A far cry from the snarling beast it had been in the cage.
There were definitely a lot of things Allen could question about this, but…
"Well... case closed."
"Kapi"
The hellish capybara that had carried Charlotte encouraged her, saying, "Well done, young one."
“Kapipi-kapi~”
“Huh? ‘Despite that ridiculous thing growing out of your head’? What the heck do you mean—wait.”
Allen touched his head, and froze.
Just like Charlotte… he was still wearing those cat ears.
