Chapter 618: Chapter 618 Are You Worthy?_1
“`
“No… we weren’t really talking about anything… just going to the restroom, coincidentally ran into them.”
Burl Radcliffe, guilty as a thief, stammered in his explanation, on the verge of giving it all away.
He was already a coward, and after being scared by Darnell Ridge and those societal types, his articulation was extremely unskilled.
“Cooper Ridge, is this the sincerity of your apology? We just got upstairs, and my father-in-law started scolding me, even asking why I came so late,” Julius Reed said in an unfriendly tone. “Was it your doing?”
“Uncle, that’s not right of you,” Cooper Ridge saw that Julius Reed was somewhat angry and realized he had misunderstood Burl Radcliffe.
But then again, it made sense; the couple was only too eager for Julius Reed’s misfortune. How could they tip him off?
“Brother Reed, come on in! It so happens a few friends of mine are here too. Today’s a good day to get you acquainted,” he said with a smile curving his lips. “After all, the more friends, the more paths.”
“Let’s go. I hope you don’t disappoint me,” Julius Reed huffed, taking Quella Radcliffe’s hand and walking ahead.
Behind him, Cooper Ridge’s face was smug as he said confidently, “Don’t worry, I definitely won’t disappoint you!”
Disappoint?
That’s out of the question!
Once inside, it won’t be so easy to leave.
When Julius Reed and Quella Radcliffe pushed open the private room door, they found it already packed with people.
Darnell Ridge and his brothers were playing with small knives in their hands.
On each face was a look that spelled murder.
“This one, you must be Julius Reed, right?”
He looked up with a face of disdain and asked.
“No, you’ve got the wrong person,” Julius Reed said with a smile, then sat down next to Knox Ridge and Quella Radcliffe.
Bang!
The bearded man next to Darnell Ridge suddenly stood up, slamming his fist on the table. “You little bastard, even daring to play Lord Ridge?”
“How do you know I’m playing him? When it comes to accusations, you need evidence. If whatever you say goes, then if I say I’m your dad, would you kneel and kowtow to me?”
Julius Reed spoke nonchalantly, even putting his feet up on the table and shaking his legs as he leaned back in his chair.
Completely uncouth.
Even, fully provocative.
“Bullshit!”@@novelbin@@
The bearded man clenched his fist, pointing aggressively at Julius Reed. “You’re Julius Reed, damn it, I know you!”
“That’s strange, how do you recognize me? We’re complete strangers, and yet you know who I am? Baseless claims. You might as well say you’re Aron Jackson, I might actually believe that.”
Julius Reed faced the man’s aggression without a trace of fear but instead turned up the provocation.
The bearded man, put on the spot by Julius Reed’s question, turned red in anger, “I saw your photo this afternoon, given by Brother Ridge! So I know you!”
As he finished, he immediately realized he had let something slip, and at the same time, Darnell Ridge’s face also darkened.
“Oh!” Julius Reed feigned sudden realization, then with some bewilderment, he asked, “Since uncle knew I was Julius Reed, why ask knowing the answer? Is this some kind of setup?”
“You…”
The bearded man, realizing he had been made a fool of, became furiously embarrassed and was about to strike.
“Sit down!”
Darnell Ridge shouted, and the bearded man begrudgingly sat down, though he beat Julius Reed countless times in his mind!
“Uncle, I’m puzzled about one thing.” Julius Reed lowered his feet and leaned closer to Darnell Ridge. “Why did you show these people my photo? Seems like something hostage takers do in movies!”
“How dare you speak to your uncle like that!”
Knox Ridge was already scared out of her wits, and now with Julius Reed daring to offend Darnell Ridge, she was terrified.
“Auntie, what Brother Reed says makes sense. Let’s not talk about this for now, let’s eat!”
Cooper Ridge quickly stood up to lighten the mood.
His plan was to first flatter Julius Reed, then crush him thoroughly!
How could he let such an atmosphere be ruined?
After speaking, he picked up a glass of wine and introduced. “Brother Reed, this is my friend, Bron Martin, who works at a big conglomerate in Five-river Province.”
“`
“Hello, I’m Bron Martin!”
Bron Martin stood up, holding his wine glass and looking at Julius Reed: “I heard from Lake… Cooper Ridge that you work at Five-state International?”
Just the thought of this little security guard trying to show off in front of him made him want to laugh.
It was like an amateur acting like a master carpenter at the Lu Ban’s door.
And everyone else understood the situation and was waiting to laugh at the joke.
“Indeed, I work in the security department at Five-state International and get to see the big bosses every day.”
Julius Reed had no intention of standing up; he sat at the table, lifting his empty wine glass: “Didn’t someone say they wanted to apologize? Pour the wine first!”
Damn it!
Such a poser!
This was Cooper Ridge’s inner monologue, but seeing that the show was about to start, he could only force a smile, approaching Julius Reed to pour the wine himself.
“About what happened before, it was my bad. Please be generous and don’t lower yourself to my level.”
After pouring the wine, he sneered and said, “I just hope you can show some mercy and not jeopardize my job, huh!”
“Jeopardize your job?”
Upon hearing this, Bron Martin said with great surprise, “Brother Reed, you have that much power?”
He almost burst into laughter saying those words.
A mere security guard daring to boldly claim he could cost Cooper Ridge his job?
Who did he think he was?
The general manager, or the chairman?
Even Bron Martin himself didn’t have the power to directly fire someone in Cooper Ridge’s position.
For a security guard to make such a grand statement was simply laughable.
Just another case of ‘a frog in a well.’
“It’s nothing special, just acquainted with the big shots at Five-state International and have a bit of a say.”
Julius Reed pretended to be modest as he said this and drained his wine glass in one go.
He wasn’t lying; the chairman of Five-state International was his lover…
And the clingy type that you couldn’t shake off even if you tried.
But his honesty was met with ridicule.
In everyone’s eyes, there was nothing but disdain and even contempt.
Except for Quella Radcliffe.
She knew her husband wasn’t lying.
“Coincidentally, I also have some friends in Five-river Province and have been struggling because I don’t have connections. I’ve been wanting to get into Five-state International but had no way in,” Bron Martin sighed with feigned regret: “Why don’t you talk about it and let’s see if I know anyone?”
Having set the stage, Bron Martin was ready to reveal his hand.
He was the Director of the General Affairs Department, Julius Reed’s immediate boss.
He wondered what expression his subordinate would have upon learning that he had been boasting to his superior.
“Itai Huntington, I’m quite close to her and have invited her to join us for the meal,” Julius Reed glanced at his watch and muttered, “She should be arriving soon, right?”
“Itai Huntington!”
Upon hearing this name, Bron Martin almost spat out his drink!
Of all the people, he dared to claim he knew the chairman?
Now it couldn’t be easier to fire Julius Reed, and he could even pin a charge on him!
Speculating about company executives, tarnishing the leader’s image—the compensation could leave this security guard indebted for a lifetime!
“What, you know her?”
Julius Reed lifted his empty wine glass, looking at Cooper Ridge: “Come on, fill this up for me, and your job is safe. Otherwise, be prepared to resign.”
“Pah!”
Cooper Ridge burst out laughing, no longer disguising his contempt: “Julius Reed, do you really think you’re some big shot? You want me to pour wine for you? Are you worthy?”
What do you think?
