Chapter 254 Personal Individual Quest
Lucas didn't say anything, he looked at the guy with a plain expression. He did not know how to react.
The guy was cursed? Like him? He thought yet he could not feel anything like that from the guy.
"Hmm… would you care to elaborate? That is some big stuff you are talking about."
Phil averted his gaze while biting his lip, it seemed he didn't want to say it.
Yet Lucas could not have it now, he needed to know what the guy had in his mind.
"It has been a while since we were shifted here… to this world. I traveled a lot and one by one met the world's most wonderful people. They made me laugh and made tough times look easy."
Lucas could feel the level of pain Phil was feeling, something was clicking the mark, in a bad way yet Lucas suppressed it.
Phil's eyes were distant and dazed, he was speaking yet he was somewhere else in his memories.
Lucas didn't like that.
"One day when we were done with a dungeon, we were going to go home again but I- I got a notification." Phil's eyes panicked, and his voice started quivering, Lucas was seeing a kid a few years less his age trying his best to not let those tears come out.
Lucas could respect that, Phil had a responsibility right now, to convey this message.
"It said that the gods were happy and that… they want more. I could not understand it at first. I asked the others too but they didn't get the message. It made me a lot more confused but then-"
"Something from hell came to attack you," Lucas interjected finally understanding the situation the guy had seen.
Phil's eyes bulged in shock, he looked at Lucas with the purest form of dumbfoundedness.
"How did you know?"
"Because the same happened to us too," Lucas said the next second Phil asked the question.
Phil still confused kept a hand on his head and started squeezing it.@@novelbin@@
"Are you okay?"
"Yes, It's just… been so much. Feels like I can't take it anymore."
"Look, I can't seem to come any close to the misery you have felt or are still feeling. I am really sorry for your loss but it's not a good idea to give up now. Your people did so much to protect you, you should be respectful to their sacri… fice."
'I see.' Lucas could now connect the dots perfectly, it was there all the time.
Yes, the guy was very sad about the loss of his people but there was something more.
Lucas could feel guilt coming out of him. Phil did something that he can't forgive himself for. And Lucas in no way was going to try getting it out of him, not yet.
"That is it for today, I don't want to pressure you anymore, Phil. You can stay here as long as you want and if you want to get permanent, tell me. I will make you a member. Your sk- skin looks pale, have some rest."
He stopped himself from spoiling that he knew about Phil's skill already.
"Wait!" Phil grabbed Lucas's hand in order to stop him.
Lucas could only look at him with pity, he wanted to leave because he didn't want the guy to be embarrassed being looked at right now. He was brawling his eyes out.
"Did you fight those demonic beings too?"
"Yes… We were able to kill them but it was a close call."
"I see…"
The grip loosened and Lucas left the guy alone.
When he came out, John was sitting right by the entrance of the shelter as if waiting for him.
"How did the talk go?"
"Pretty rough, his group was eradicated by the creatures of hell."
"The same as us?"
"We didn't get eradicated but yeah, it's the same."
"Pftt"
"What's there to laugh about, Uncle John? We have to come up with a plan quickly."
"Haha, I was just thinking about something. If it was not for you, we would have not survived that sudden attack too."
Lucas only nodded, they had desensitized him so much about all the things he did for the group that now he didn't care about the praises at all.
He looked and saw that the people still were not used to the undead inside the shelter. Your journey continues at My Virtual Library Empire
The undead still had its eyes on Lucas while Sandra was touching its head and caressing it.
Lucas ignored it and went inside the shelter to get inside his office again. He stayed there for a long time thinking about what he now had to do.
When his eyes closed, it was as if a burden fell on him. No matter how hard he tried, it was tough staying awake so in the end, he did not see a problem in sleeping.
Even after some hours, he did not wake up and everyone was instructed by John to not wake him up.
Lucas was mentally exhausted and the reason was unknown.
When he finally woke up, about a day had gone by.
Even a simple stretch made many of his bones pop, a truly satisfying feeling.
"You slept too much, my guy." Sean said from the side with a big stone in his hand that he was fiddling with.
Lucas gave him the side eye while taking a yawn.
'I need to be fast…' He thought looking at things inside the workshop, mostly the unfinished projects.
His plans had faltered for a long time due to lack of manpower but now Lucas did not care, he needed to do the work even though there were fewer people, even if he was the one that had to do all the work.
In front of him, he saw something, a hologram, something he had himself opened.
It was time for him to go somewhere, just like his father.
