Chapter 310 A family (2)
Lucas went on and told his mother everything about the quest world. It took a long while, and once he started, Lucas couldn't help but share every single detail with her.
There was a long silence on her end, with Lucas talking one-sidedly until he stopped.
"I'm sorry for making such a big decision without you, but it was important…" Lucas didn't know why, but he felt the need to defend himself.
-"Lucas, I'm very upset right now that you made such a big decision without us. It really frustrates me, but at the same time, I know you did the right thing. It's just… 15 years, Lucas, that's a long time…"- Her voice finally came from the other side, and all Lucas could do was listen with a heavy heart.
One childish decision had led to so many complications and broken hearts.
-"But it's not like you didn't tell us before going. I remember your father giving you advice, and knowing you, it was only a matter of time. I'm just frustrated that I didn't get to wish you well, Lucas,"- she continued.
"Mom, your wishes are always with me. And in the next few days, I'll show you what I learned in those 15 years. I should call Tessa too. Please tell Dad everything I just told you."
-"Call her. She was really worried about you, and her situation is getting worse too. Your Dad and I are both concerned,"- she said.
"What happened?" Lucas asked.
-"She'll tell you everything. Until then, I'll fill your father in on what you said. Just take care of yourself, Lucas."-
"I will."
With that, Lucas disconnected the call and dialed his sister. The phone rang for a long time before she finally picked up.
-"Lucas?"- her voice came through.
"Hey, Tessa," Lucas said, pausing as he felt relief wash over him at the sound of her voice.
-"You bastard… disappearing for a month without warning. Do you have a death wish?"- Her tone was sarcastic, but Lucas could tell she was holding back tears.
It was a pity he couldn't feel others' emotions over long distances.
"I'm sorry about that, but are you okay?"
-"What could possibly happen to your strong sister?"- she replied.
"Mom told me, Tessa. You need to tell me, please," Lucas urged.
There was silence on the other end for a minute, and Lucas remained quiet, giving her all the time she needed.
-"It's those damn goblins, Lucas. They… they're the worst. And ever since we can understand them, it's been tough,"- she said at last, her voice shaking.
"Goblins…" Lucas's gaze remained calm as his thoughts went to his best friend, the goblin he once did business with.
"They're trying to take girls from your territory, sending hordes of their army your way. All you're doing is killing them. It makes sense why your level is so high." He looked up at the clear sky as he spoke.
-"I didn't tell that to Mom…"- she said, her tone suspicious.
"Let's just say I have experience dealing with them. Tessa, what I'm about to tell you is important. If you want to write it down, start now."
-"I'm good,"- she replied.
"I know how to make them stop. Their methods of reproduction are… disturbing, to say the least, but they follow certain customs. When do they send their troops?"
-"In the afternoon… Wait, Lucas, stop for a second. How do you know all this?"- she asked, confused and shocked.
"I'll tell you everything when the time is right. But your situation is urgent. They won't stop unless you give them what they want, or unless some special circumstance arises."
There was silence on the other end, as Lucas expected. He was overwhelming her with heavy information.
-"Then… what do I do?"- Her voice was serious yet shaky, indicating just how fed up she was.
"Write down what I'm about to tell you. You need to say this exactly to the troops that will come soon. It'll make them retreat for a while."
Though perplexed, Tessa listened as Lucas recited some gibberish that was neither English nor any language she had heard before.
"End all the words with a cough sound, like kha. Now try it," Lucas instructed.
-"… kha. Was that okay?"- she asked.
"Yes, it's fine. You just need to be confident when you say it. It'll make them retreat and get you an audience with one of their high-ranking commanders. That'll be my time to step in and talk to them."
-"Lucas… this feels unreal. I don't know what changed in you, but it seems like a good one. You've… matured."-
"I don't know about that. Call me again after the cooldown. There's a 90% chance they'll retreat. If they don't, kill them all and wait for the next wave."
-"Okay… I'll do that. They should be coming soon… Bye, Lucas."-
"You're strong, Tessa. You're a good leader. I know you'll do great."
-"Thanks."-
"Bye, Tessa."
Lucas disconnected the call and lay down on the ground, staring up at the clear sky with a calm expression.@@novelbin@@
"What were those sounds you were making?" John asked, coming over and sitting beside him.
"What did it sound like?" Lucas asked with his eyes closed and a smile on his face.
"Probably a language."
"It was the tongue of the goblins. We can understand each other with the universal language skill, but our native languages are still different."
"What did it mean?" John asked, unable to contain his curiosity.
"It meant, 'We have the solution to your race's biggest weakness,' or something like that," Lucas replied calmly.

"That sounds very important, what's their biggest weakness?" John asked and Lucas smiled, he like curious people.
"Their lifespan, it's really bad. But me and my masters as long as my research team came up with a solution. Telling them what I told Tessa would make it clear if they have overcome their race's problem till now."
John looked at him seriously, there were many things Lucas used there that he wanted to ask about but he refrained for now. "The knowledge you have is our greatest asset, Lucas. I'm glad you're back."
"I hope so too, Uncle John."
With that, John left Lucas alone with his thoughts. As the daylight illuminated the world, Lucas waited for the meeting to begin. This was the moment when their journey would become more than just prosperous.
What do you think?
