Chapter 315 Curing the oven
By now, under Lucas's guidance, the clay had been refined properly. Sand was added to make it sturdy, and water was mixed in to bind it together.
All the things that should normally be done after adding water were done in their own way; the element of Mike's skill played a big role in making it.
Lucas had instructed Mike, and while he was doing so, it was as if his demeanor changed completely. He looked like a wise sage, sharing his vast wisdom with his people.
Lucas's aura now matched John's when it came to crafting and matters like this, although John still had the upper hand in things such as emotional behavior and whatnot.
All the people of the territory were now gathered around Mike, watching him construct the clay oven with Lucas's guidance.
As the lumps of clay swirled in the air, everyone was marveled by the sight. Each lump was systematically placed on the ground, one on top of the other.
With time, the clay began to take on a curved shape until it was completed.
Mike collapsed to the ground, sweating as if he had just run a marathon.
"Good job," Lucas said, patting Mike's shoulder while smiling at the structure.
The clay oven resembled a medieval furnace. While normally the oven wouldn't be hollow inside, with Mike's ability, Lucas was able to skip some steps. The entrance and the small ventilation chimney at the top made it look very professional. Continue your adventure at My Virtual Library Empire
"Uncle John, can you use your wind manipulation to generate a small breeze toward the oven?" Lucas asked, smiling at John.
"Alright," John replied, raising his hand and flicking his finger once or twice before a light breeze of cold air started flowing toward the oven.
"Keep the breeze consistent for a minute, and we'll be done," Lucas said confidently before turning to Sean. "Can you bring your rune-scribing knife here? It'll make things much easier."
"You're going to use runes? Wait, I'll be back soon!" Sean shouted, running toward the shelter.
"I haven't seen him so excited in a while," Barney muttered, making his parents nod in agreement.
"Lucas has brought back the old days when we used to make things together. Remember just a few months ago when we were building the canal? It felt pointless then, but now we get a constant supply of fish."
"Oh, I remember. It was quite the project but still very crude. I'm surprised we managed it with so little knowledge back then," Lucas said, as if reminiscing.
"Yeah, for us, it was a few months, but for Lucas… 15 years… I can't believe you still remember it," Haley said, shaking her head. Many shared the same sentiment.
Lucas didn't respond to that, but he glanced toward the canal just a few meters from the shelter's entrance.
He smiled as his irises turned green. The world around him became vibrant with color, and that's when Lucas saw what he had been sensing for a long time.
'Telling the others now would cause panic. I'll talk to Uncle John later…' Lucas thought, deactivating his perceptive eyes.
There was something inside the canal, something with a golden aura that had been watching the shelter ever since they arrived. It was time to finally do something about it.
"I'm here!" Sean shouted from inside the shelter before the door burst open with a 'BAM!'.
"Careful, or you'll break the door, Sean!" Ella rebuked him, making Sean stop running in embarrassment as he briskly walked toward the group.
"Uncle John, you can stop now. It's sturdy enough," Lucas said, taking the rune-scribing knife from Sean before approaching the oven.
Everyone watched Lucas with curiosity, wondering what he was going to do, while Sean, on the other hand, followed closely behind.
Sean waited for Lucas to start explaining things to him, but oddly enough, Lucas didn't say anything.
He knelt down, covering his trousers with a thin layer of mana—something not many noticed—and began carving into the oven's center with the rune-scribing knife.
Each stroke of the knife was like a painter making masterful, muscle-memorized brushstrokes.
Everyone gathered closer, and Sean was only inches away from Lucas, watching intently.
Lucas continued making strokes, one after another, and everyone began to realize that he was inscribing strange symbols.
"I've never seen these symbols before… And you're not just using a few symbols to scribe runes; you're creating sentences with multiple of them. What the hell?" Sean said, his shock evident.
"Runes are nothing more than lost languages that hold power in every word. Once you learn these languages, the runes come naturally to you, and you can make them bend to your creativity and knowledge," Lucas explained.
When he finished one small line of runes at the center of the oven's exterior, the symbols glowed brightly for a moment before returning to normal.
Lucas tapped the oven's exterior twice with some strength, and when he heard the solid knocking sound, he nodded in approval before continuing to inscribe more runes.
After about five minutes, nearly everyone was sitting beside Lucas, watching how he wrote the runes.
He carved them on the left side, the right side, and the center—every vital area had a line of runes inscribed.@@novelbin@@
After a few more minutes, Lucas finally set the rune-scribing knife down and stood up.
"I've added runes for Heat Resistance Level 2, Sturdiness Level 1, and Clean Surface Level 1. This should keep the oven in good shape for a long time," Lucas said, making everyone view the oven in a new light.
"W-Wait!" Sean shouted, his outburst causing his mother to frown again. However, when she saw the look on his face, her expression shifted to concern.
"I-It has a status window!"
Lucas turned his attention toward Sean, noticing the excitement in his eyes. A knowing smile spread across Lucas's face.
'He is so excited over getting a status screen for an oven, I don't know how he will react later.' Lucas couldn't help but shake his head yet he still inspected the oven with a proud gaze.
What do you think?
