Legendary Shelter Survival Guide

Chapter 336 Meeting the Kobolds (2)

"Damn those Kobolds, they make me so angry!" Jerry shouted, his face red and his fists clenched.

John placed a hand on his shoulder to calm him down. Lucas couldn't help but chuckle. It was difficult to change someone's personality, but after years of learning, he knew it wasn't necessary to change people. Instead, it was better to work around their traits and help them grow in their own way.

"We'll start moving in 10 minutes. Get all your equipment and meet back here," Lucas instructed.

Sarah shot him a sidelong glance as she left to gather her gear.

Lucas looked down at his belt, ensuring he had everything he needed for the journey. He carried a round glass potion bottle filled with water, a few basic potions he had crafted during his travels, and, of course, his two swords.

"I'll tell Ella I'm leaving with you for a while. I'll be back soon," John said.

"Mhm," Lucas replied absently.

After completing the necessary preparations, the small team set out.

The people remaining at the shelter bid them farewell without suspicion. Some might have questioned why only the fighters were leaving, but seeing Lucas among them eased their concerns.

At level 32, Lucas wasn't just the strongest in the shelter—he was unmatched in the entire territory. The local monsters posed no challenge to him, and only the dungeon floors offered any resistance. Though few had seen him fight, his presence exuded an oppressive confidence. Even at his calmest, others instinctively knew they couldn't defeat him, which made his leadership unquestionable.

The group of four headed north, following the path Bill had scouted. The Kobolds were closing in quickly, traveling on mounts that made them much faster.

"So Bill has been tracking them this whole time?" Sarah asked, surprised that Bill had been informed before her.

"Yes, Bill is the best—and only—scout in our territory. He's proven himself once again with this mission," Lucas said, scanning their surroundings.

"I know," Sarah replied with a sigh, her tone betraying frustration.

Lucas could sense the tension and decided to address it. "I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to worry. Focus on your skills and help the territory grow with your strength."

"You can't decide that for me, Lucas. If it concerns the territory, I want to know everything." She paused and continued, "Got it?" Sarah said, trying to sound serious, though a hint of shyness crept into her voice.

Lucas couldn't help but smile at the mix of emotions on her face. Resting a hand on her shoulder, he said with a dazzling smile, "Don't worry, I won't hide things from you anymore."

"Cough! Cough! Cou- Cringe! Cough!" Jerry interrupted with exaggerated coughing, making everyone burst into laughter.

As they resumed their journey, John took charge of navigating the map while Lucas instructed Jerry to call Bill.

It turned out the Kobolds were becoming suspicious due to the lack of activity in the territory. The group pressed on, traveling for hours until the line on the map showed they were close.

"Their senses are far better than ours, so they'll likely spot us before we see them. Sarah, call Bill and keep him active," Lucas ordered.

The group crouched behind a large bush to blend into the surroundings.

"What do we do when we see them?" Sarah asked, with John listening in.

"The moment they spot us, they'll attack. We'll engage them first, but our goal is to understand why they've invaded the territory," Lucas explained.

"Isn't it to attack us?" Jerry interjected.

"We can't jump to conclusions. It's better to be sure. For the fight, I want Uncle John and Sarah in the back to support, while Bill, Jerry, and I engage from the front. Got it?"

Everyone nodded. It made sense—Sarah had her flamethrower and fireball skill, while John could manipulate wind for ranged attacks.

"Lucas, Bill says he can see both us and the Kobolds from a tall tree. They're very clos—" Sarah's words were cut off when Lucas pressed a finger to her lips.

He was staring into the distance. The others followed his gaze and saw a Kobold dashing toward them on a pig-like mount. More Kobolds emerged, riding similar beasts.

The Kobolds weren't wearing any armor, just their reptilian skin and sharp claws.

Lucas wasted no time. Standing up, he drew the attention of every Kobold, their alligator-like eyes locking onto him.

With incredible speed, the Kobolds were about to pass the group within seconds.

*"Finally, some cowards came out! Time to play!"* one Kobold said in a hoarse voice, surprising the group. For the first time, they could understand the Kobolds' speech—except for Lucas, who was already used to such encounters.

"These creepy lizards are Kobolds?!" Jerry exclaimed, and Lucas glanced at him.

'Ah, it's his first time seeing them… makes sense,' Lucas thought before turning back to the Kobolds.

"Greetings, esteemed guests," Lucas said with a calm smile, taking slow steps forward. "Welcome to my territory. I am the leader of Survivor's Haven."

For a moment, the Kobolds stared in silence. Then one in the back burst into laughter.

*"Puhahahaha!"*

The others quickly joined in, their laughter echoing through the area.

"Lucas," Sarah whispered, drawing his attention. "I just checked their levels. The first one is only level 12. Are they dumb? Can't they see your level?"

Lucas raised an eyebrow in surprise, then let out a small chuckle, which made the Kobolds stop laughing.

*"Looks like it's our big day! The leader of the territory came right in our hands! What a puny little weak beings they are!"*

*"Yeah, boss, it's nothing like what the leader told us about. Just look at how weak it is!"*

The Kobolds mocked the group relentlessly. While most remained unfazed, Jerry's face turned crimson, a vein bulging on his forehead.

"SHUT THE F—"

"Jerry, language," John interrupted, his tone calm but firm.

"What—" Jerry was dumbfounded. Even in this situation, John insisted on manners.

"What a pity. I've heard great stories about the Kobold warriors," Lucas said loudly, grabbing everyone's attention. "They're supposed to be a proud race, respecting all opponents. But it seems those stories were but a bunch of lies."

'They're not from the quest world…' Lucas's expression darkened. He observed the Kobolds with a cold, calculating gaze. Only after meeting them in person was he able to know where they came from as the status was invisible in the list.

The Kobolds sensed the shift in the atmosphere but remained too foolish to understand.

*"What's this guy yapping about? Let's just take his head, boss."*

"True..."* The Kobold in the front muttered while tightening the ropes on it's mount's neck making it struggle, *"Whoever brings me their heads gets double the food!"*

As soon as the Kobold leader spoke, Lucas took a deep breath and caught a familiar scent in the air—greed.

No matter the species, greed was one of the many basic emotions that almost every creature possessed.

The Kobolds dismounted one by one, their mounts surprisingly calm and obedient.

"Get ready, everyone. No need for negotiations. Take them all down—except the one still on its mount," Lucas commanded.

The Kobolds sneered, while the humans nodded with resolute seriousness.

There was a fundamental difference between the two groups. One mocked its enemies; the other prepared to fight in seriousness.

A Kobold charged toward the group, and everyone braced for the attack. But then, they noticed something strange happening to the Kobold.
