Chapter 106 Presents Fit For A Summon (3)
While it could be said that Nyria's nest was a complex structure, as Aoni stood over it, he had to admit it wasn't really that difficult to accomplish its construction.
Just like with any other project, the Lad became immersed in it. His nimble fingers flowed with practiced expertise, and after a few hours, the roughly four-foot-in-diameter and two-foot-tall woven basket was finished.
Keeping his summons comfort in mind, Aoni had gone so far as to add in several soft tufts of fur from one of the many rabbits hunted down and slaughtered by Glacia, so in a sense, the nest pretty much resembled a furry, handleless basket.
The bottom layer of the nest was soft and fluffy, providing both comfort and warmth; meanwhile, the walls were high enough to block out light and provide a sense of protection for his anxious fledgling.
One thing he had noticed was how close in proximity Nyria seemed to want to be to not only himself but also Glacia, causing Aoni to believe she required a certain level of security.
That was his reasoning behind raising the walls a bit higher than initially intended; even so, with all the boxes checked, Aoni was quite proud of the finished product.
'I hope she likes it…' Even though it was rough around the edges, Aoni had spent quite a bit of effort ensuring that none of the branches or vines poked out. After giving it a final examination, he determined it would easily fetch a few bucks if he were to sell it at a flea market or something.
"Mmm, a shame the materials used were all unranked and Gradeless, or else it probably could have turned out a bit more fancy; oh well, it's nothing points can't fix later." With a shrug of his shoulders, Aoni effortlessly lifted the woven nest and placed it on one of the empty workbenches.
Next came a few minutes of tidying up his workspace and clearing out any excess materials, and then it was onto Glacia's bed.
Unfortunately, this project was both time-consuming and wrought with one issue after another.
When it came to dealing with pelts and hide, which weren't even remotely close to being as malleable as branches and vines, there would be a certain level of error involved.
Occasionally, parts of the leather would be too short and, other times, too long, but the biggest issue presented was in the form of the bed's internal framework.
Although he had initially planned on using some form of stuffing, the pelt weight proved to be too much for the structure to hold form; even the idea of using harder leather seemed fruitless, forcing Aoni into going with his backup plan of creating an inner skeleton, not unlike the weaving technique used in Nyria's nest.
Using thicker branches and some vines, he worked out a decent skeleton; luckily, young, bendable branches were something he had a decent stock of, so in the end, the framework of Glacia's bed was finished without too many more issues cropping up.
Since he knew the floof was prone to lazing around and leaning on soft objects, the walls of her bed ended up being a fourth of the height of Nyria's and filled with plush furs, giving them a decent bounce, not unlike a pillow.
The next stage of his crafting involved creating a cover for the skeleton, which proved a bit challenging because it would, at some point, need to be removed for cleaning.@@novelbin@@
And without things such as zippers readily available, Aoni went ahead with making a system of knots that could be tied down and held in place with straps.
By the time night fell on the mountain and the Lad finished munching on some homemade jerky, both presents had been completed.
"I gotta admit, it really did end up looking like a rustic dog bed," running his fingers over the soft fur lining Glacia's bed, Aoni smiled and enjoyed the texture for a moment before moving them into the cave from the Crafting Station.
But once he had, the Lad stood in the center of the cave, arms crossed and struggling with a conundrum.
"How do I give them to the girls? Should I wrap some straps around the beds and tie bows, like an actual present, or just hide them." Tapping his chin in thought, Aoni imagined his summons freaking out all happy and over-excited before jumping into their beds and destroying the bows.
"Okay, probably not a great idea; I can already imagine Glacia getting all tangled up and slashing her way free, destroying the bed in the process…hm…I suppose the best option is to have them sit obediently with their eyes closed before bringing them out and presenting the beds to them." Nodding his head, Aoni paused and glanced down at the two presents before sighing heavily and opening his TD.

Crafting the two beds had gained him quite a bit of points, but since he had basically just pictured the chaos Glacia could bring with her claws, Aoni went ahead and increased the durability of her bed, causing his lackluster total to drop and go up a few times before settling on F-Rank.
Progress Points: 70
"Perpetually poor, that's what I am," Releasing Glacia's bed, Aoni followed the same process with Nyria's nest, causing his points to fall even further,

"Then again, I suppose it's better to have something a bit tougher, even if it does cost me an arm and a leg; at least that way, all my effort won't have been for nothing." Wiping away an imaginary tear, Aoni moved the two beds behind the wall and close to the desk so that wandering eyes couldn't easily spot them
"Hahhh, the things I do for my summons," wearing a smirk, Aoni returned to the spot he had slept the night before since he was worried about inadvertently waking them up early; even if that was unfounded, the Lad refused to take any risks when it came to the growth of his beloved summons.
Taking off his coat, Aoni slumped onto the ground and folded it up like a pillow before slowly drifting off to sleep.
What do you think?
