Chapter 114 Trinkets, Returning, and Potential 2nd Reward
Holding onto the off chance that Nyria had magically located a second Cavern and that what she had stumbled upon wasn't a lower entrance into the one Glacia had found, Aoni's thoughts were soon shattered by the reality of his situation when the fledgling returned, holding several items in her talon's and beak.
'LOOK BROTHER, I GOTS THEM!' Chirping happily as she glided down to the lad and landed before him on the ground, Nyria was happy as happy gets and started showing off her findings, completely unaware of her Lord's inner turmoil.
"chee CLICK, Che che Clack,"
'I found dis one over by the woods. It's some kind of shiny rock, but I thought it looked pretty, and this fruit here is from one of the pointy trees in the west.' Placing down each item and lining them up in order of how she found them, Nyria prattled on and on about their location and the reason behind her picking it up.
For example, the fruits not only smelled sweet but also seemed to draw her attention due to a weird feeling she got from being close to the tree.
As for the stones and odd-shaped leaves, those were just things for her budding collection and didn't hold much use apart from that.
Meanwhile, Aoni sat down in front of her and listened intently to her introductions. Sure, he was exasperated by the fact there was a passage further down the mountain that led to the cavern, but that could wait until his adorable Nyria finished.
It was his first time witnessing the bubbly side of his newest summon, so he wanted to take a minute to let her enjoy herself. In doing so, not only was he bonding with her, but he was also learning little quirks and such, like how she clicks and clacks her beak; each one seemed to signify different things, something apparent when compared to the words flowing through the LoS directly into his mind. 'This branch was all twisty and different from any others on the trees I found, so I had to grab it too, Seeeeee,' scooping it up in her beak, Nyria brandished the bright orange twig, earning an Ooooh Ahhhh from Aoni, much to her enjoyment at having impressed her Lord.@@novelbin@@
By the time she finally settled down, Nyria had shown off all 9 of her little trinkets and the two fruits, one for him and one for Glacia, and was acting quite proud of herself.
"These are amazing and will look fantastic decorating your nest, Nyria," not wanting to dissuade her or make the fledgling uncomfortable in any way, Aoni pampered his birb with some more pats while requesting to get a closer look at each item, something he was quickly allowed as the normally frightened Nyria wanted to share her achievements with him.
Apart from the fruits, which held obvious value, most of what he saw was primarily for decorations. The rocks were flashy shades of silver or blue, yet smooth as if they were river stones. They would look cool, but that was bout it.
The leaves she had brought back were in the same category; sure, they were unique and unlike anything he had ever seen, but apart from being dried and woven into the nest, Aoni couldn't find anything special, such as medicinal value or even scent.
Then, there was the strange branch, and instantly, from the moment Nyria had shown it off, Aoni noticed something distinct about it.
In a land of white and Grey, it was the total opposite, a bright, firey orange. At first glance, he almost believed it to have been some type of Fire Elementalized resource, but upon further inspection, it didn't radiate anything resembling heat; in fact, it was quite cool to the touch and seemed to stay at static yet chilly temperatures.
'Hm…I can sense the Energia stored in the branch is above average, but I can't tell why it seems so different,' holding up the thin, scraggly orange object no bigger than 4 inches in length, Aoni, for the life of him, couldn't figure out what its purpose was.
Unable to yield any results and figuring its secrets would be revealed in time, Aoni gently handed it back over to Nyria and smiled.
"Alright, let's pack up everything and head back up; oh, that reminds me, when we get back to the camp, we gotta get you fitted for a satchel, like the one I made for Glaica; that way, you don't have to worry about leaving your stuff behind and can just pack everything in the bag."
"Cheee?" scooting her trinkets back into a pile, Nyria paused upon hearing the strange word she didn't recognize and asked innocently.
Apparently, she had completely ignored the latter half of Aoni's statement, wherein he described its purpose, and got hung up on him making her something, which, in her mind, instantly meant another reward, making her giddy.
'Satchel? What's that? Is it another reward?' Snapping to attention and looking at her Lord with innocent eyes filled with wonder, Nyria asked.
"Mmm, yeah, even though I called you back early, you learned a lot about the territory so far, so you can think of it as a reward. Basically, it's a single strap pack that can hold objects in a way that won't hinder your movement." Scratching his cheek and realizing this whole reward thing could easily get out of hand if left unchecked, Aoni fumbled his way through an excuse before explaining the use of the satchel he was going to craft her.
"I'll need to measure the space between your wings and belly, and we can try a few different styles; comfort is the most important aspect of a satchel like what I have in mind, and since you fly around and take sharp turns, it can't hang loosely as Glacia's does."
"Either way, it shouldn't take me too long to make, and once complete, you won't have to carry any of your trinkets; you just place them in your satchel and continue exploring." Thinking back to the comedy routine Glacia put on the first time he tried getting her to wear a pack, Aoni couldn't help but smile since it reminded him of those videos where people put socks on their cat's feet.
What do you think?
