Chapter 192 192: Surprise Gift
After taking around 30 minutes to recover from his run, Aoni made haste in returning home, and when he finally got to the front door, his clothes clung to his body thanks to the slick of sweat coating his skin.
Yet that was nothing a quick shower and fresh outfit couldn't fix, and by the time he wrapped it all up and headed downstairs, most of his family was emerging from their rooms for breakfast.
"Morning, baby brother!~" Dashing into the dining room and practically tackling Aoni, Clara nuzzled her face against his affectionately.
However, after a second or two, her nose twitched a few times, picking up the fresh scent of soap, and her eyes widened in horror.
"You, you, YOU WENT TO WORK OUT WITHOUT ME!"
"Yeah, no shit," using all his strength, Aoni palmed Clara's face and freed himself from her clingy actions before darting to his assigned seat at the table.
"But, but, we said we'd work out together while you were home…"
"No, YOU said we were working out together; I, on the other hand, wake up the moment the DayCelest crests the horizon; meanwhile, you refuse to get up and sleep like a pig!" He fired back ruthlessly, causing Clara to stumble as if she'd been smacked in the face.
"He's got a point; you do tend to sleep till noon; if Aoni weren't home, you'd STILL be in bed." Brushing her hair while sitting down, Char added with a knowing smirk.
"So noisy," at that moment, Archie, in a disheveled state, trudged into the room, dragging along his tablet and face-planted onto the table after sitting down beside Charlotte.
Trailing behind Archie was a made-up version of Cathy, who looked as if she were going out on a date or something.
And Anthony…well, he was sitting at his spot as the left-hand man, watching his siblings bicker like little children, his thoughts unknown to everyone as he wore a faint smile.
"Gooodd morning, my beautiful childrennn~." Before anything else could happen, Lea flitted into the room, carrying several platters of food, ranging from eggs to hashbrowns and even a bowl of fruit.
Her entrance was followed not only by a haggard Jason being treated like a pack mule but also by a chorus of "Good morning, Mom."
---
Twenty minutes and plenty of family banter later, everyone's bellies were full, and yet another small family meeting occurred.
Jason grilled his children about their plans for the day while Lea moved around, cleaning the table and adding typical motherly responses here and there. Finally, the only person left at the table was Aoni.
Unlike his siblings, who had jobs and daily lives, he didn't have much to do apart from training or returning to Genovia.
"Three months, that's a pain, but then again, you've graduated early thanks to your birth month, so there isn't much that can be done," Jason said while sipping his coffee.
"That's true. To be honest, I am kind of itching to go back." Mirroring his Dad's posture and enjoying the bitter beverage he'd missed so much, Aoni responded.
"Well, technically, nothing is holding you back. So long as you keep track of the days and return on time, I don't see why you can't or shouldn't return, especially now that your travel time has been cut drastically thanks to the Flumes Evolution." Setting his coffee mug down, Jason reached into his shirt pocket and pulled out an object before flicking it over to his son across the table.
"Take that; I filled it with a bunch of stuff you could need; it's not much, but think of it as your college fund." He said while watching the confused expression on Aoni's face morph into one of surprise.
"This…Dad, are you serious? How the hell!"
Held in Aoni's palm was a ring, not unlike the storage bracelet he'd gotten from Caster's. Only this one had enough room to fit their entire house into, and it was packed with a metric fuckton of supplies.
"Bah, think of it as a starter kit. There are enough nodes and materials set up to establish your territory as a village. We didn't know what kind of landscape you'd be facing, so most of the nodes are the basic kind, space clearing, land leveling, and such, but I figure with your Crafting Attribute, you could easily make use of the tools and nodes to get started."
For a moment, Aoni didn't know how to react. It was a bit overwhelming, considering he'd always believed his family to be barely getting by. Still, over the last couple of days since returning to Terra, he'd rapidly understood there was a lot more to his Parents and Siblings than he could have ever imagined.
Just a single look inside the storage device proved that fact because the contents held within the ring were enough to easily rack up a bill in the tens of millions of CryptoDollars at Caster's.
Dozens of Nodes ranging from Low-Grade Summoning to terrain flattening and even straight-up structures such as watch towers and buildings were just scratching the surface of the ring contents.
There were multiple queen-sized beds, mattresses, frames, and all, along with blankets and bedding, pillows, and plenty of casual everyday outfits, from t-shirts to jeans, hoodies, hell, even BOOTS!
And it all appeared Brand spanking new, too.
"Oh? I see you gave him our Awakening present, hehe; what do you think, sweetie? How did your dear mother and father do?" Walking up behind Aoni and tossing a dish rag over her shoulder, Lea cocked out her hip and smiled triumphantly.
"Mom…*sniffle*, I don't know what to say…" Turning around and looking up at the woman who had gone above and beyond given the cards they'd been dealt, Aoni's eyes teared up slightly before he used his forearm to wipe them away.
"It's amazing, Mom, thank you," he said while jumping up and hugging her to hide his embarrassment at tearing up.
"There there, it's okay for boys to cry so long as it's in front of their Mama." Returning the hug and resting her chin on Aoni's head, Lea looked down at him with nothing but affection in her eyes.
What do you think?
