Chapter 1023: Chapter 1022 Offering Courtesy When There’s No Favor Needed

Before Gu Huanhuan went to the hospital to find Wen Chi, she first stopped by the Century-Old Snack Shop.

Since it was also getting late, she decided to take out some congee to eat with him.

In the evening, it’s better to eat something light. By the time she got there, the place was still crowded, so Gu Huanhuan patiently waited in line.

When she finally got her meal to go, it was already getting dark, the streetlights were just coming on, and Gu Huanhuan drove off in the direction of the hospital.

She hadn’t told Wen Chi in advance, afraid of disturbing him during his shift.

Carrying the bag, she arrived at his rest room and saw the door was ajar. She inquired, “Is anyone here?”

...

No one responded; he probably had gone to make his rounds.

Gu Huanhuan gently pushed the door open, placed the congee on the table, and then sat in Wen Chi’s office chair.

After a while, as she waited, her eyes grew heavy, and she fell asleep.

Upon his return, Wen Chi was greeted with the scene before him.

Gu Huanhuan was sleeping in the chair.

Her sleeping posture was peaceful, her cheeks were flushed as if she was a baby, sleeping soundly and sweetly.

He made some noise coming in, but she wasn’t disturbed in the slightest.

Wen Chi warmed into a smile, then walked over, casually draping a jacket over her.

He admired Gu Huanhuan’s delicate red lips, her fair complexion, her long eyelashes fluttering like tiny fans, and he couldn’t help but bend down to give her a kiss.

This time, Gu Huanhuan was startled awake; she opened her groggy eyes and muttered, “Are you done with work?”

“Yeah, why are you here? I’m on shift tonight, might be a while yet,” said Wen Chi, squatting in front of her.

“I know, I just happened to be free, so I took out some congee from the Century-Old Shop to have with you,” Gu Huanhuan said while wrapping her hands around his neck.

Wen Chi tapped her nose. “I’m afraid you’re too tired.”

“No, I’m fine. Let’s have the congee first, I’m kinda hungry,” Gu Huanhuan said, intending to get up, but Wen Chi stopped her and stood up himself to take out the food containers from the bag.

Wen Chi pulled her over to sit by the sofa, and Gu Huanhuan watched him, carefully observing his expression, which seemed to be unchanged, nothing out of the ordinary.

Gu Huanhuan decided to come clean, guessing Wen Chi might already know.

“Hubby, there’s something… I need to tell you…” Gu Huanhuan stumbled over her words.

“Hmm? What is it?” Wen Chi asked, without even looking up, seemingly indifferent.

“I… I was photographed dancing with someone,” Gu Huanhuan said in a voice that grew quieter and quieter, clearly feeling guilty.

Wen Chi glanced at her, a teachable child indeed, knowing to confess for leniency. Surely an offer made without reason.

“Oh,” was all Wen Chi said.

Gu Huanhuan was stunned. What did “oh” mean? Did he know or not?

“You knew about it?” Gu Huanhuan asked, puzzled.

“Yeah, how could I not? It caused quite a commotion,” Wen Chi said, then lowered his head to take a sip of congee.

“Are you angry?” Gu Huanhuan asked cautiously.

“No, unless you intentionally invited him to dance,” Wen Chi said elegantly, wiping his mouth with a napkin.

“No, no, I was put in an unavoidable situation, sigh, I’m starting to regret becoming the spokesperson,” Gu Huanhuan sighed, feeling overwhelmed.

“Who was it that you danced with?” Wen Chi inquired casually.

Gu Huanhuan was startled, not expecting him to be concerned with this detail.

“Oh, it was Song Jie, the CEO of Song’s Corporation, he’s quite nice,” Gu Huanhuan added.

Wen Chi’s expression darkened the instant she finished her last sentence.

“Quite nice?” Wen Chi repeated.

Even Gu Huanhuan, never keen on picking up cues, could tell she had said the wrong thing.@@novelbin@@
