Chapter 1075: Chapter 1074: Mother-in-Law’s Dilemma (4)
Wen Chi walked over and then hugged both of them in his arms to comfort them.
Alright, the feeling he had now was that he had two daughters.
After a while, the big and the small one finally calmed down.
“You must be hungry too, come out and eat something first, I’ll hold Warm sunlight for you,” Wen Chi persuaded.
“No need, I’m not very hungry yet, and I still want to play with Warm sunlight for a while, you and Mom go ahead and eat,” Gu Huanhuan said.
Actually, Gu Huanhuan used playing with Warm sunlight as an excuse in the room because she didn’t want to face Mrs. Wen.
Since she came back today, Mrs. Wen seemed to have a stern face all the time, without a trace of a smile, and Gu Huanhuan suddenly felt somewhat at a loss.
Wen Chi hadn’t noticed, but she was distinctly aware of Mrs. Wen’s unhappiness.
So it was better for her to stay out of sight for the time being.
She wasn’t currency; she couldn’t make everyone like her, but she considered herself to have diligently fulfilled her duties as a daughter-in-law, without any guilt in her heart.
“Have a little bit to eat, you haven’t been eating much lately, do you not have an appetite?” Wen Chi, being a doctor himself, knew what Gu Huanhuan was going through every day to fight her addiction.
“I’m fine, hurry up and go out, don’t keep Mom waiting,” Gu Huanhuan urged.
“Alright then.” Because his mother was still in his house, he didn’t want to neglect her.
He came to the dining room where Mrs. Wen was already seated. Seeing him, she glanced over with her eyes and then said somewhat sarcastically, “What’s the matter? Acting like a big star at home too? Needing people to beg you to come to eat?”
After hearing Mrs. Wen’s words, Wen Chi couldn’t help but frown, “Mom, Huanhuan is just not hungry yet, don’t talk about her like that.”
Mrs. Wen, seeing Wen Chi defending Gu Huanhuan, slammed her chopsticks down on the table with a “snap.” “Now I can’t even comment? Do you know what people are saying outside? How nasty it is?”
Mrs. Wen was already filled with anger deep down, and Wen Chi’s words now triggered her.
“Mom, I can’t stop others from talking, but you are my mother, and I hope you won’t treat Huanhuan the same way as those people do. It’s not fair to her. She is a brave and strong girl,” Wen Chi spoke fervently, and he was rarely angry.
“Wen Chi, I think you’re bewitched, with green all over your head, and you don’t even know?” Mrs. Wen looked frustrated and disappointed.
“Mom, I respect you today because you’re my mother. I want to reiterate that Huanhuan is a good girl, and even if she encounters any misfortune, I will continue to treat her the same as always. Furthermore, nothing has happened to her, she’s still the same old Gu Huanhuan. Other people who don’t know any better may spread rumors, but you should be encouraging and caring for her,” Wen Chi’s tone was full of disappointment. He now realized deeply that Mrs. Wen had always had some reservations about Huanhuan. How much grievance must his silly wife have suffered?
But she never told him and bore it all in silence.
“Fine, I’m old anyway, it’s not me being laughed at. Take care of it yourself,” Mrs. Wen seeing that her words had no effect, simply shut her mouth.
After a few bites of her meal, she walked away in a huff.
The argument was loud, and nobody noticed that the bedroom door was slightly ajar with a figure standing by the door.
When Mrs. Wen slammed the chopsticks down forcefully earlier, it startled Gu Huanhuan. She was about to go out when she realized they were talking about her, so she stopped and stood by the door, holding Warm sunlight. She didn’t intend to eavesdrop, but because their voices were loud, she couldn’t help but overhear every word of their conversation.
What do you think?
