Shu Pan furrowed her brows as she glanced at Xia Xiaoqiao and truly, she couldn’t bring herself to feel good about her.

She always felt that there was a hidden meaning in her words.

However, since the woman had already spoken up, she wasn’t in a position to say much more, after all, it was out of concern for her husband.

“Alright then, but if you’re tired you should go back and rest. After all, he might still be asleep when he comes out, and it’s possible he won’t wake until tomorrow,” Shu Pan explained.

“Don’t worry, Mrs. Gu, I’ll just take a quick look. Once Mr. Gu comes out and the doctor says everything is fine, I’ll head back,” Xia Xiaoqiao said with the demeanor of a meek wife, as if Shu Pan was putting on airs and bullying her.

Shu Pan gave her a brief, indifferent glance and then fell silent, instead fixing her gaze firmly on the emergency room door.

The wait always seemed interminable, and the door still hadn’t opened after a long while.

Shu Pan’s heart couldn’t help but whisper to her, hadn’t the doctor told Xia Xiaoqiao that no vital parts were injured? Why was it taking so long for him to come out? Had he been in there a long time, or had something unexpected happened? Or had the wound worsened?

The more Shu Pan thought about it, the more scared she became. Even with her anger, she hoped he was safe.

Finally, the emergency room door slowly opened, and a doctor in a white coat came out, removed his mask, and asked, “Which of you is a family member?”

“I’m his wife. How is he doing now?” Shu Pan quickly stepped forward to ask, not daring to delay a moment.

Seeing this, Xia Xiaoqiao also hurriedly moved closer.

“The patient didn’t injure any vital organs, but the stabbed area is quite deep, and he lost a lot of blood. We’ve managed it, and he is temporarily stabilized, but you’ll need to be careful over the next few days to prevent the wound from getting infected and causing a fever,” the doctor carefully instructed.

“Okay, we’ll take care of it. Thank you, doctor,” Shu Pan quickly responded, while Xia Xiaoqiao also awkwardly nodded at the side.

“You can go to the ward and wait now. The medical staff will be bringing him there shortly,” the doctor finished instructing and then turned to leave.

“Thank you, doctor, for your hard work,” Shu Pan repeatedly expressed her gratitude.

Her heart, which had been suspended in mid-air, finally settled. Gu Shaoting was out of danger; now, all they needed to do was to take good care of him.

“Miss Charlene, you can be at ease now, so no need to blame yourself either,” Shu Pan turned to Xia Xiaoqiao and said.

But Xia Xiaoqiao glanced inside the emergency room and just nodded, showing no intention of leaving.

This time Shu Pan didn’t mind; she saw that Xia Xiaoqiao seemed to want to stay, so she let her.

Xia Xiaoqiao clasped her hands together and then gratefully said, “Thank heavens, Mr. Gu is alright.”

Shu Pan nodded somewhat coldly.

It was good that she didn’t leave; Shu Pan wanted to see how Gu Shaoting would react when he woke up.

Her intuition wouldn’t be wrong; Xia Xiaoqiao liked Gu Shaoting, a married man, but considering this man’s capabilities, status, and wealth attracting the admiring glances of women wasn’t surprising at all.

Soon, Gu Shaoting was wheeled back to the ward, but knowing he disliked disturbances, Shu Pan had requested a VIP room, a private room with only one hospital bed. Fortunately, the hospital wasn’t too busy lately; otherwise, they might not have managed to secure it.

The medical staff settled him in and then left.

Now, he lay there with his eyes closed, his expression peaceful. His hand still had an IV drip.

What was particularly noticeable was his chest, which was wrapped in thick bandages that had been stained red.

Shu Pan quietly approached and helped adjust his bed a bit.

Suddenly, Gu Shaoting murmured something, his voice so soft that Shu Pan couldn’t hear it clearly.

She slowly leaned her ear closer and heard him say, “Charlene… Charlene, run fast…”
