Life Of A Nobody - as a Villain

Chapter 441 Savior and Start

It didn't take more than a few seconds for Leon to let go of all his worries and thoughts, and step up to protect the kid. It was as if the instinct to protect was set in his heart and seeing the helpless kid just triggered it.

Many people say that no one is born good or evil. That everyone at birth is a clean slate. And what they see around them, and what they go through in daily life, shapes their personality, - but those people are wrong.

Some people are indeed born good, and some, are born incarnate of evil.

It's not a matter of memories or life, it's just how their souls are wired and used too.

A feeling so strong it gets imprinted on the soul, and like a slash on stone it remains forever the same.

For Leon, the heroic traits of being a savior and righteous leader were just such marks.

He didn't think about the consequences, that if he fought and wasted time here he could lose the legacy that can make him powerful. Or that he himself, who doesn't even have half the strength he used to have, could die _ he just saw someone who called him brother and asked for help, - and honestly, that was it.

Leon protected the kid behind him and charged forward to meet the monsters midway.

The fight as expected wasn't easy. The monsters which at first were just barely a dozen, now seemed endless. They kept coming wave after wave from the caves all around him.

If it wasn't for his keen senses and years of hard training under lord Apollo's guidance, Leon would've lost his life a lot of times, but luckily he survived.

"Phew phfff,"

After pulling off his sword which was stuck inside a monster's open mouth, Leon steadied himself and took a deep breath. He checked his storage ring for any recovery options but he was fresh out of stock.

"I shouldn't have been miser and bought a few more potions for backup." Leon sighed in regret and shook his head.

Leon didn't know alchemy yet, as the destined master who was supposed to be teaching him that was interrupted by Rio and is currently getting five star flaming treatment at the darkest corners of niflheim.

As for the high grade potions he received from the academy and his potential harem, well, being a good son he is, he gave them all to his father. So his dearest mommy can feel better.

'I hope sister can find a cure and return home soon. Then we'll all be together, finally.' Leon thought in his heart while imagining the warm scene of the family reunion.

Knowing the smell of blood could attract other monsters nearby, Leon didn't waste any more time and set off inside an empty cave with the kid. Blocking the entrance by a big stone, while leaving little room just for the air to come in.

Phillis squiremed around on the hard ground, sweat trickling down his forehead, as fear and worry marred his innocent face.

He seemed to be having a nightmare, and going by his looks, it wasn't pleasant.

His chest felt heavy as if someone was sitting over it, holding his neck tightly so he couldn't make a sound.

"Run, Phillip, run. And don't look back."

A voice echoed in his ears, lifting the pressure which was holding him back, and after much struggle the boy finally opened his eyes and sat up in horror. Gasping for breath as he looked around himself dazedly.

His hands were still stretched out as if to desperately trying to reach for someone, yet even in this dreaded horror, no voice came out from his mouth.

The boy took few seconds to recollect himself, and when he finally got a grasp on reality, his eyes couldn't help but tear up. He remembered the scene of monsters rushing towards their hiding place, and his uncle sacrificing himself just so he could run away safely.

Remembering the scene of a monster's arm piercing his fatty uncle's stomach and dragging him backward, the kid couldn't help but close his eyes and hide his head under his knees and cry to himself.

His last family member left him alone too. From now on he truly was an orphan.

The scenes of his childhood where he pestered his uncle, troubled him or annoyed him came to his mind in memories, and he couldn't help but sob in regrets.

If only he had listened to his uncle and not followed him in these mines. If only he behaved well and not run around, causing others to come and look for him. If only he stayed silent and didn't cry or threw a tantrum which attracted the monsters. If only …. he died_ his uncle would be alive.

Blame, guilt, regret _ it all washed over him, almost drowning his hollow heart. When a gentle tap on his shoulders pulled him back to reality.

"Don't be scared, you're safe now." Leon said, while trying to give an awkward hug to the kid.

He could guess what happened from the little mumbles the kid spoke in his sleep, but he didn't know what to say to calm him down.

No one came to wipe his tears when he cried, or hugged him when he showed weakness. The only words he ever heard in his childhood were mocking taunts and teasing remarks blaming his failures.

Hence his awkward silence earlier and silent hug now.

But thankfully that's all the kid needed, he didn't need an emotional speech, a lengthy note saying everything will be alright_ he just needed someone to be there. To not be alone again.

To not be an orphan, again.

Leon just stared at the fire while the kid cried his heart out. His thoughts reminiscing the scenes of years of bullying and abuse he himself went through. Until the vow of revenge he took surfaced again, hardening his resolve once more.

"Can you tell me what happened now?" Leon asked once he felt the kid calmed down, "Who are you? And what are you doing here?"

"Were you with the other miners, do you know where they are?" Leon tried to sound as gentle as possible, yet his question still saddened the kid.

"If you can tell me where you came from, maybe I can go and save others too." Leon spoke, "Goblins usually only eat at night after praying to the moon, so maybe everyone is still safe. We can save them."

Leon said and as if a ray of light lit up in darkness, Phillip's eyes shone in hope.

Leon watched as the kid started talking about everything and hurrying him to leave this cave and follow him where he last saw his uncle.

'Though chances may be slim, but if a small lie can save even one life, then it's worth it, right, lord Apollo?' Leon thought to himself and then followed the excited kid outside.

While Leon was on his way to be the savior, someone else was stepping on the opposite direction.

Rio looked at the fog in front of him which blocked the temple which hid what he most desired at this moment, and couldn't help but smile.

'Finally I don't have to rely on Nyx or Loki to change between my forms. Once I get this power, I can finally start the next phase of my plans for eclipse and the academy.'

'With this, I finally don't have to hold myself back and constantly look over my shoulder. Gods are coming, so it's only right, for a godkiller to be born. _ This _ it really is my first step towards a peaceful future.' Rio thought in excitement as he took the first step in the blinding fog without any hesitation.

Not aware what drastic consequences this one decision is going to bring him soon.

Not aware that the trial phase for his story was finally over, and the real saga officially began. One which was never about laughter, and love, or family,_ but only about sadness, loneliness, and failures.

..

"Tell me, what is it that cannot be discussed on a call or by a message, and you had to come here yourself." King Maximus asked his son who visited the castle with no prior notice.@@novelbin@@

Alfred looked up at his father, only to feel scared by the gaze which seemed to see right through his thoughts. He clenched his fists to calm himself, and gather his strength, before opening his mouth.

"I want to marry someone." He said word by word. Hoping to hear a shout or a question in response, only to feel the pressing silence which filled the empty room.

Maximus stared at his son for some time, pondering over something, his thoughts unknown even to the god hovering over his throne.

"Fa_ father, I _"

And when the silence was finally too much for Alfred to bear, and he tried to explain himself again, laughter filled the room.

"Ahaha ahahha haahaha." Maximus laughed for a while, before teleporting right next to Alfred and patting him on shoulder.

"My son indeed." Maximus said in praise and pride before walking away without giving any response.
