Limitless Summoner: Rise of the Soul God

Chapter 125 Out and about

Stepping out into the bright afternoon, Ethan made a beeline for the fields. The vast expanse of tilled earth awaited him, the air filled with the scent of damp soil and the rustle of wind through the crops. Of course, there was another reason he was so excited.

Today was the day he was going to find out just how much of a genius he was. Would he be able to cast all sorts of spells? Would he have affinity to wind, water, earth, lightning, dark, light, perhaps even more elements? He needed to find out.

He picked up a couple of spells here and there from the books and memorized them. Now, all that was left was for him to try it out. And he wanted to try them out without that nosy old hag knowing everything about it.

From what he had read, normally mages just had one or two elemental affinities. Anything above that was considered extraordinary—almost unheard of, the mark of a true prodigy in the arcane arts. He did not want to pile up any more extraordinary talents on top of the forbidden spirit magic.

Who knew, he might dazzle the old hag and shock her dead. He wouldn't want to do that. He laughed to himself as he reached the fields. He had planned to water the fields first, but his curiosity got the better of him, and he decided to try out the magic spells first.

Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes and began with the wind. "Ventus, spirare!" he whispered, his focus sharp as he reached out with his senses.

And nothing happened.

He tried it several more times before begrudgingly accepting defeat. With the water spell, even though he failed, he had succeeded a little. But this was a complete failure. There was no room for development. It was like the element was closed off for him.

Ethan was down for a moment before he chuckled and brushed it off. What was he expecting here? That he would be a one-in-a-million genius? The spirit magic was going to his head a little too much. He needed to come back to the ground.

Deciding to try the other elements a bit later, he started watering the fields. At least the water spell was still running smoothly. He patiently and slowly watered each herb, one after the other, and by the time he was done, it was already late.

Ethan did not mind the late hour. In fact, he relished the solitude and the quiet discipline that training afforded him. As he carefully watered each herb, he could feel the subtle pulse of mana flowing through his fingertips—steady, patient, and precise. It was as if the simple act of nourishing the fields was also nurturing his skill.

By the time the last herb was bathed in gentle droplets, the sky had shifted into a deep indigo, and the first stars winked into existence above the fields. Ethan paused, leaning on a tree. He took a moment to stare at the fields before starting to head back home.

The streets still looked busy, with more guards patrolling, but no one even spared him a second glance. At least his disguise spell was working wonders.

Ethan decided to take this chance and get out of the city. He might not be a once-in-a-million genius when it came to being a mage, but his summoning skills were definitely SSS rank.

He needed to work more on that. He couldn't simply let his minions sit and stew wherever they were right now. Where the hell were they anyway? Where did they go when he dismissed them?

Ethan's mind wandered here and there when he arrived at the city gates. His heart thudded nervously, but it looked like he was worried for no reason. He walked right out of the city gate with none of the guards paying any attention to him.

He was finally free to do whatever he wanted!

"Fuck ya! Freedom felt good!" Ethan hummed a little tune and, just to be safe, walked in the opposite direction of that small rat-infested village. He summoned Shadow and Tweety and sent them out to scout. The duo were extremely happy to be free.

Shadow gave him a couple of licks before darting into the darkness, and Tweety circled him a couple times before flying away. The only problem was that he was smack dab in the middle of the Lord's territory, and there weren't many dangerous beasts roaming about in these areas.

He could always try going back to that border town.

Ethan thought about it for a moment before deciding against it. He needed to train more before he revisited that landmine. There was no need to take unnecessary risks.

His training trip eventually ended up as just a walk outside the city in the night. He returned home empty-handed and headed up to bed. He was extremely tired after all. Maybe he could try asking the old hag next day for some tips.

He saw Lia and the little girl hugging each other and sleeping. He smiled and silently laid next to them.

When dawn finally broke, Ethan awoke with a weight on his chest. Luna was somehow on his chest, and Lia was hugging him tightly from the other side.

Ethan laughed. He slowly sat up, his mind already churning with thoughts of what needed to come next. With a determined smile, he gently set Luna and Lia aside and began his morning routine.

He went to the bookshelf and practised a little bit of spirit magic. He then tied up the underground workspace. Since the old hag did not seem to be in the house, he decided to head out and finish watering the herbs first.

He hurried through the streets, wanting to get down to the task immediately when his legs came to an abrupt halt. His mouth opened wide as he saw the old hag sitting inside a fancy restaurant. She was sitting with a bunch of old ladies and cackling loudly. This was where she always ran off to?
