Case 327: Cult leader Sylvia Everwood.
Case 327: Cult leader Sylvia Everwood.
''Ah, it's totally reasonable to doubt something like that, I suppose.''
When a random elf comes to you and offers a drug that enables you to do anything inside your dream freely, you'd report her to the police, of course.
''Still, it's nothing more than a controlled simulation.'' I shrug. ''I can simply replace the content of your dream with a pre-ordered setting or let it play out randomly. The unique part of it is that all the senses—even the most obscure and niche ones—are kept intact. This is only possible because I am the one doing it.''
''O-Oh...''
Simultaneously reassuring the target whilst also upping my position... ah, how talented I am. Even without that, though, the little idiot Camellia seems smitten with the idea.
Well, it's not like I'm lying or anything. This type of simulation can only be harmful if she ever gets addicted to it, but I would intervene before that happens anyway.
Gulping down yet another pocket of air, Camellia cautiously asks, ''So... if—just if, okay? If I were to take on that role... what would I have to do?''
''Valid question. Nominally, you will be the bridge between me and the people of this world later on, but I'd want to do that myself. So, realistically, you can be the one in charge of spreading my name.'' I reply.
Eager as she is, the little idiot still holds a bit—like, a teaspoon of reasoning left. After chewing on it for a while, she eventually comes back with another question, ''But... doesn't everybody know your name already?''
''Of course, they do know who I am, yet I want them to acknowledge who I will become in the future. In other words—''
''...A deity?''
''Bingo. What a smart girl you are.''
Since she catches onto it so quickly, the rest of the explanation goes on quite smoothly. Once she understands all of it, her demeanor changes somewhat. It seems she is weighing her options.
''...But if it really helps a god's growth, what stops me from being a delegate for another goddess? Why should I spread your name and your lewd shenanigans?''
Oh, man. This girl is really shrewd. Nonetheless... I mean, she's right on that aspect.
Giving her an awkward smile, I respond, ''You should if you want to, obviously. It is my job to become the person you can look up to and worship, and it is also my job to appeal to you—like I just did—so you find the relationship attractive.''
''...''
''In the first place, I'd want enthusiasm from my believers as a top priority. Only then will the power of worship become potent.'' I explain honestly. ''If you still want the dream simulation but don't want to serve me, Sariel can probably do it, too. I'll just go to another person—it's not a big deal.''
That's it.
I've done everything I can, and now, it's up to Camellia.
''...Sure. I'll do it.''
And, after a few shockingly short seconds, she decidedly agrees to be my first delegate. I can't help but be a bit perplexed by this development. Truthfully, I expected her to refuse it, but... I guess you really can't predict everything.
It's a pleasant surprise, however.
"Then, I look forward to working with you for a long, long time," she continues nonchalantly, extending her hand.
''Heheh. Of course, my first believer.'' I reply, reciprocating the gesture.
''Ugh... don't call me by that name. It's disgusting.''
''My, why not?''
''It's corny. Don't forget you stole my crush. Stop acting too intimately, will you?''
Oh my, oh my... it seems an attitude fix will be needed for this case.
I'm not sure why, but whenever I look at this sheep, the rare sadistic instinct within me always swells up. I wanna tease her so bad.
''W-What is that smile...? You're not going to—''
''Let's establish the connection.''
''Eh?''
Itching closer to the flustered girl, I grab her shaky, slightly damp hand and guide it toward my belly.
''This is my crest,'' I utter, showing her clearly the heart pattern etched on my skin. ''Once you and I establish the connection, a less elaborated version of it will appear on your skin as well.''
''...It will appear on my belly, too?'' Camellia asks, her face burning.
''Not necessarily. I have a feeling it won't, though.''
''Where will it appear, then...?!''
Giving her a light shrug, I happily press her palm against my crest. It feels a bit odd since this is technically one of my sensitive areas, too, but I can manage.
Anyway, the process is actually quite simple. A good analogy is probably tattooing. Yes, like tattooing, I just need to permanently etch a small portion of my power onto her skin. I can't control where it will land yet, so let's choose the most suitable place so my buffs can best penetrate her body...
''...It's done.''
''Whoa... that was strange. But my body is a bit lighter?''
Seeing the idiot slowly feel out her limbs one by one, a smile creeps up my face. The connection is indeed there, and although it can't be compared to the one between Eva and me, it is good enough.
''Uh, but... where's the crest...?''
''Hm? Were you searching for it all along?''
''Of course! W-What if it appears in a strange place—''
''Ah, it's on your tongue.''
''...''
''...''
Oh... that's legitimately cool. A heart crest on the tongue? As expected of my believer.
Though, judging by her flabbergasted yet immensely embarrassed face, I guess it will take her a while to get used to it.
''Heheheh...''
''Did something good happen?''
''I got my first follower!''
As soon as I utter that sentence, Emy's expression promptly goes from (0.0) to (0-0). With a concerned look(?), she pulls me into her warm embrace.
''...Don't get addicted to social media, and... absolutely don't do *nlyf*ns.''
''...''
Now, that is what I call a misunderstanding.
By the way, Camellia is already experiencing the dream feature I promised. That's why I'm in my room by myself right now. Well, not 'by myself' but with several other people, I guess.
Aside from Emy, Liana and Sariel have already come back. The others should come back soon, and by then, I'd take the chance to explain this whole experiment to them.
There's still some time before that, though, so I should begin to choose more people to become my believers. I don't think either of my party members works since they have been with me for so long and know me so personally. It's all about seeming mythical and whatnot, right?
''...''
Sadly, as I keep searching my memories, only a few good candidates come to mind. Well, if I travel all the way back to the places I've been to, I'm sure a lot will pop up, but right here...
''Oh.''
Right then, something intriguing enters my field of view—a voluptuous, slightly gloomy-looking woman with exotic features diligently mopping the floor. It's Dina, the succubus princess.
After being under my 'correction' course for a while, that insolent slut is now nowhere to be seen. She has become exceptionally obedient, and although it's not in my nature, I find her useful as a tool for doing all kinds of jobs—basically everything I want.
See, I'm a firm believer that for some evils, locking them up and making them pay back everything they have done is better than just killing them. I intend to keep this one alive for as long as possible so I can use her for good, and if I can tie her under my divinity...
Heheheh...
What do you think?
