Chapter 101: 101 Mysterious Ears
Chapter 101: Chapter 101 Mysterious Ears
Tang Qi smiled as he bid farewell to the two girls: one dressed in a floral skirt, radiant and charming, the other clad in animal fur with wild, fluffy hair giving off a primitive and untamed air.
The two girls each imparted a piece of knowledge to Tang Qi; the former was a rare language, much like the Mohawk and Antya languages Tang Qi had learned before, also a endangered language favored by certain Professionals.
But compared to languages, Tang Qi was more interested in the latter piece of knowledge.
[Beast Taming: A magical skill that allows one to quickly tame wild beasts. It is also an essential knowledge for professions such as Beast Tamers and Beast Shepherds.]
“So, if I learn this knowledge, could I even aim for a career as a Beast Tamer or a Beast Shepherd?”
“The girl possessing this knowledge was still ruined by that self-portrait; seems one of its former Hosts was quite formidable.”
As thoughts flickered by, Tang Qi had already digested the Information Fragment in his mind. Suddenly, he felt that if he were to face the Blank Dog-faced Man again, he might subjugate it without resorting to violence, simply by using this knowledge.
The Dog-faced Man, after all, is a kind of Beast, isn’t it?
Ding-ling-ling!
As Tang Qi was contemplating the very practical piece of knowledge in his head, the crisp sound of a doorbell rang.
This time of day…
He subconsciously glanced at the wall clock, but accidentally caught a glimpse of the sky outside the window.
It turned out to be evening already, he had become so engrossed that he had lost track of time.
He put the remaining third of the Mysterious Hair Tie back into his pocket and went straight to the door, not bothering to look through the peephole. As he approached, Tang Qi silently sensed the aura beyond the door: a regular person without any Extraordinary Ability.
Of course, “ordinary” is a relative term.
Tang Qi opened the door and examined the man standing before him, a hat on his head, nondescript features, somewhat short in stature clad in black clothing, silently guessing that this man’s killing skills could swiftly dispatch at least three to five burly big men.
“Deliveryman?”
“Yes, this is the package you requested.”
The man in black did not deny it and handed over a delicate black wooden box.
After Tang Qi took it, he handed over another, slightly larger, grey wooden box.
Adding a sentence, “This is the order you need to complete. When can I come to pick it up?”
“Such blunt and straightforward methods, he looks like a secret agent employed as a courier, the Ancient Castle Bureau really spares no expense.”
Tang Qi criticized inwardly but kept a perfect facade of a high school student on the outside.
He awkwardly arranged the two boxes before replying, “First thing in the morning will be fine.”
The man in black, getting his answer, didn’t linger and promptly turned to leave.
Tang Qi then took the boxes to his workbench, first opening the delicate, black wooden box.
Lifting the lid, the first thing that caught Tang Qi’s eye was a piece of black silk. In the center of the silk lay a pair of ear-shaped objects that looked like they were made of iron, engraved with a series of strange runes converging towards the depth, one for each ear.
Beside the silk was a small piece of paper.
It carefully described the usage of these “Iron Ears.”
And in Tang Qi’s eyes, specks of ghostly light began to gather.
[Curios: Mysterious Contract Ears.]
[State: Intact.]
[Information Fragment One: This is a Contract type Curios. It can authenticate a contract without the other party’s knowledge. Even a verbal agreement, once recognized by them, becomes an unbreakable iron rule. The owner can set the punishment for breaking the contract at their discretion.]
Information Fragment One flowed past, and Tang Qi nodded with satisfaction.
This Curio indeed resembles what Old Coulson described over the phone—it’s a Divine Artifact perfect for setting up traps.
Of course, it wasn’t without any restrictions.
If this very Curio could establish a Contract without the other party’s knowledge and set arbitrary penalties, its value would be incomparable even by Ancient Castle Bureau’s standards—not something an outsider like Tang Qi could exchange for with just some Extraordinary Bullets.
The restrictions were written on a small piece of paper.
It stated that the price paid by both parties involved in the Contract must be equivalent.
Ridiculous Contracts like “If you break today’s dinner promise, you have to die” wouldn’t be recognized by it.
However, this was of little concern to Tang Qi, what he needed was its ability to remain concealed.
After resealing the box and putting it away, Tang Qi opened the second gray wooden box.
The contents were much more straightforward and brutal.
Bullets!
Brand new, yellowish bullets of an exaggerated caliber.
Tang Qi silently made a comparison; the dozens of bullets lying before him had calibers even more outrageous than those used by his Bloodline One and Stanna’s Red Rhino.
“Really making the most out of them, do the field agents of the Ancient Castle Bureau use real hand cannons? With such bullets, a shot could blow the head off a monster as big as an elephant, right?”
With some speechlessness, Tang Qi closed the wooden box, unable to suppress the urge to complain.
More than he had anticipated, the stock of Sea Demon’s Tears might be running low.
“After dealing with this matter, perhaps I ought to consider acquiring some new Curios to make new Extraordinary Bullets.”
Tang Qi muttered to himself, then stood up and placed both wooden boxes into the safe.
The time agreed upon with the recipient was tomorrow morning, so there was no need to hurry now; he had another “appointment” to keep.
After changing his clothes, Tang Qi left the campus area.
He first made a trip to the police station where he listened to McGraw’s report in the dark alleys.
Then Tang Qi directly left the Blank District and Central District, heading towards the outskirts instead.
Along the way, Tang Qi recalled McGraw’s words regarding the trap set earlier in the day, the exact words were: “Those plump African American sisters were overjoyed upon stumbling onto that message, snatching two old newspapers before quickly leaving the Newton District.”
“Before leaving, the sisters were also muttering about how their poor old uncle must have returned to the embrace of the great god Osar, but he had left behind some relics and gifts. We need to contact that kid promptly to get all of Old Morgan’s relics back—oh no, the money.”
This confirmed some of Tang Qi’s previous speculations.
“Family unity? Probably just wishful thinking on Old Morgan’s part. A poor family from the Saha Continent, not every Member can keep themselves from being influenced by the luxurious metropolitan lifestyle, especially given Old Morgan’s indulgence, corruption was inevitable.”
The final comment was aimed at the Harria Sisters.
They were the perfect entrance to the trap.
“The bait has been laid out, now it’s just a matter of when the Prey will bite.”
“With the wisdom of that ambitious wizard, it should take at least until verification tomorrow. I’m looking forward to his call, or perhaps a personal visit from one of the family Members?”
Tang Qi muttered a few words to himself, then stopped. At this moment, he was on the outskirts of the city, in a very secluded small park. After surveying the surroundings, Tang Qi turned into a wisp of mist in a dark corner, elongating and twisting as he quickly merged into the engulfing darkness of Nightfall.
This time, the direction was opposite from his last trip to Georgeway Village.
No human habitation, no villages, just a stretch of dark and gloomy mountains which looked from afar like terrifying Monsters crouching in wait.
What do you think?
