Lord of the Time: I Can Reincarnate Infinitely

Chapter 507 507: Adventurer's Guild

As Caleb approached the adventurers' guild, he paused to take in the grandeur of its architecture—a striking blend of Victorian elegance and traditional Japanese design. The sprawling edifice was adorned with ornate woodwork and sweeping, curved rooftiles that shimmered under the afternoon sun. A massive mechanical clock, its gears intricately exposed, dominated the peak of the guild, ticking away the seconds with a steady, resonant clang.

Flanking the large double doors, a guard stood at attention, his attire stark against the elaborate backdrop. Dressed entirely in black, the figure resembled a knight from tales of old, a broadsword resting on his shoulder, its blade catching the light.

"What business does an old man have at the adventurers' guild?" the guard inquired, his tone a mix of curiosity and skepticism as he eyed Caleb. "Are you looking to become an adventurer?"

Caleb nodded, a faint smile playing across his lips. "Indeed, I am exploring new beginnings," he replied, his voice calm and measured.

The guard's eyebrows rose slightly in surprise, but he responded, stepping aside to allow Caleb to view the interior. "Well then, you'll need to know a few things," he began, his voice lowering to a more informative tone. He described the guild's structure: the registration desk where new members signed up, the job boards filled with quests ranging from the mundane to the perilous, and the training areas where adventurers honed their skills.

"The guild is a place for those who seek to make a name for themselves, whether through bravery, cunning, or sheer strength," the guard explained. "You'll find all manner of folk here, from young hotshots to seasoned veterans. Everyone starts somewhere."

Caleb listened intently, his eyes scanning the grand hallway beyond the doors. It was bustling with activity; adventurers of all sizes and shapes moved about, some clad in armor, others in robes or leather, each with a tale etched into their bearing.

"Thank you," Caleb said, his gratitude genuine as he stepped past the threshold. The guard nodded, watching the old man disappear into the crowd, his initial skepticism giving way to a flicker of respect.

As Caleb entered the guild, he approached the reception desk, where a young staff member was busily organizing papers and scrolls. Noticing Caleb, the staff member paused, offering a welcoming smile.

"Good day, sir! Welcome to the Adventurers' Guild. My name is Thomas," the young man introduced himself with a polite nod. "How may I assist you on this fine day?"

Caleb leaned on the wooden counter, his interest piqued. "I'm new to this place," he began, his voice laced with a feigned curiosity that masked his true capabilities. "Could you tell me a bit about the guild and perhaps about your most notable adventurers?"

Thomas's eyes lit up with pride. "Of course! This guild has been the cornerstone of adventure and valor for over three centuries. We have seen many heroes rise from these very halls." He gestured grandly around him, where banners and trophies adorned the walls, each telling a story of epic challenges and victories.

"One of our greatest is Bonchon, the Guild Master himself. He is not only the guild's strongest but also the third mightiest in the kingdom," Thomas continued, his voice filled with admiration. "A few years back, he achieved legendary status by slaying a dark dragon that threatened our lands. He's a Gold Tier adventurer—one of only three in the entire kingdom."

Caleb raised an eyebrow, feigning intrigue. "Gold Tier, you say? How powerful is that, exactly?"

Thomas leaned closer, lowering his voice as if sharing a great secret. "Gold Tier adventurers are extraordinarily powerful. They can topple mountains with their bare hands and destroy entire cities if need be, all within mere minutes. Bonchon himself is said to be just a notch below the Grand Arc Mage, who serves as the right-hand man to our king."

Caleb nodded thoughtfully, putting on a show of being impressed. Inside, however, he felt no awe. In his previous life, he literally accidentally destroyed multiple planets bigger than earth, making the feats of a Gold Tier adventurer seem modest in comparison. Yet, he kept his expression carefully neutral, not wanting to reveal the depth of his power or his past actions.@@novelbin@@

"Remarkable indeed," Caleb responded warmly, his voice hiding the undercurrents of his thoughts. "It sounds like this guild is a place where legends are born. Perhaps, even an old man like me can find a new start here."

Thomas smiled, clearly pleased with Caleb's interest. "Absolutely, sir! Here at the guild, we believe it's never too late to start an adventure. Let me get you started with the registration process."

Caleb leaned closer across the guild's desk, his posture slightly stooped to embody the persona of an elderly man seeking adventure. He rested a hand on the counter, his eyes twinkling with a mix of wisdom and curiosity. "You know, young man," he began, addressing Thomas with a gentle, seasoned tone, "facing challenges is what keeps us young at heart, even if our bodies suggest otherwise."

Thomas nodded, clearly taken with the old man's spirited demeanor. "I must say, you carry your years well, sir. If I may guess, you're perhaps around seventy?"

With a knowing smile, Caleb agreed, "Indeed, I am in my seventies." He introduced himself as George, carefully choosing a name suitable for his current disguise. As they spoke, Caleb peppered the conversation with insightful questions about the guild's structure and operations, each query pointed and relevant.

"To register as an adventurer," Thomas explained, his admiration growing with each of Caleb's thoughtful inquiries, "you'll need to pay a fee of three silver coins and pass a physical test. We have two main paths here—the Warrior's Path, which emphasizes physical prowess, and the Mage Path, for those who wield magical powers."

Caleb nodded, his expression reflecting genuine interest. "Ah, choices that define the course of a man's destiny," he mused aloud, drawing on his vast experiences. "Even in old age, one must not shy away from proving one's mettle." Stay tuned with My Virtual Library Empire

Thomas was impressed by the old man's vigor and outlook. "Exactly, sir! It's refreshing to see someone of your age so eager to embark on new journeys. Your spirit truly embodies what our guild stands for."

As they continued discussing the registration details, Caleb's questions subtly probed the depth and breadth of the guild's influence. He was particularly interested in the tests and trials that would allow him to demonstrate his abilities without revealing his true power.

"Thank you, young man, for your guidance. But first, Can I take the physical test and pay the three silver fee after?" Caleb said.

"No problem sir!" With a respectful nod, Thomas completed Caleb's registration, inspired by the old man's zest for life.

"It's important to keep pushing oneself, regardless of age. Life's true essence is all about the challenges we embrace and the adventures we choose to undertake." As Caleb walked towards the testing area, his gait steady and his eyes sharp with his hands behind his back, none could guess the true extent of the power hidden within the frail exterior of an elderly adventurer.
