Chapter 524: Chapter 285: South of Colorful Clouds, The Place of My Heart, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Shining with Silver Light_2

Xu Qingyan could see the benefits for himself quite clearly, having gained a favor from Old Zheng. It would be easier to ask for help in the future. Just from this point, the deal was worthwhile.

Secondly, not only could he earn Old Zheng’s favor, but he also gained the reception of key leaders from the Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism. Perhaps in the future, he might secure a few more such projects.

Most importantly, Xu Qingyan could arrange for his own people to perform the song.

Once tourists visited Yunnan, the beautiful landscapes would remind them of this song. And recalling the song would bring the singer to mind.

Killing three birds with one stone, and still holding the original copyright—it was like Emperor Qin eating Sichuan peppercorns, completely winning.

But all this was predicated on the officials being satisfied with the song. Moreover, it had to create a trend online after production to achieve promotional aims.

...

The hometown of porcelain is fitting for “Blue and White Porcelain,” but what’s most fitting for Yunnan is… “South of the Colorful Clouds.”

Xu Qingyan had visited Yunnan once, where tall mountains stretch under the blue sky and white clouds. It’s said that during Emperor Wu of Han’s reign, colorful clouds were spotted above White Cliff Ancient City. Envoys pursued them right to the land of immortality.

It was later named Yunnan, also known as South of the Colorful Clouds. Peaks over five thousand meters are snow-capped year-round, resembling silver dragons coiling atop the mountain ranges.

The next day.

Pei Muchan looked at Xu Qingyan across the desk, slightly bewildered, “So… you went to the Capital City, how did you get involved with Yunnan’s Department of Culture and Tourism?”

“It’s a long story, mainly about knowing a leader from the National Theatre. He helped make connections,” Xu Qingyan didn’t know how to explain it; even he found it unbelievable.

“A leader from the National Theatre?” Pei Muchan glanced at Xu Qingyan.

Having not seen him for two weeks, he still looked the same, as if nothing had changed. But wasn’t it supposed to be about a script seminar? How did it become related to a leader from the National Theatre?

“Uh… yes, it’s possible that they are interested in the script and are preparing to pick actors,” Xu Qingyan leaned back in his chair, “It’s good to ride on the coattails of giants, much better than my own grass-roots troupe.”

“What does that have to do with Yunnan’s Department of Culture and Tourism?”

“Because they had a song collection event, an old leader from the National Theatre has a friend, so…” Xu Qingyan said, “I just made an acquaintance there, wouldn’t say I really know them.”

“But you haven’t even finished writing the song, and it’s already decided?” Pei Muchan was still surprised.

“Hey, let’s not say things that could undermine unity,” Xu Qingyan interrupted, “How can it be considered decided? It’s just securing a spot in advance.”

“Moreover, whether it gets confirmed in the end is not certain. Only if the effect is exceptionally good will it not be dismissed. The only advantage is that it doesn’t need to go through layers of review.”

Although he said that, for something as trivial as a promotional song, how high could the leaders’ demands be? Knowing that Old Zheng was backing him, they would probably cut him some slack.

Pei Muchan had a complicated look in her eyes, a familiar sense of frustration surging in her heart.

She knew very well that a script which could attract the attention of the leaders of the National Theatre was no ordinary play. It might not become a sensation, but it certainly wouldn’t have a poor reputation.

Sighing silently, Pei Muchan propped her head up with her hand.

“Will I be the one singing?”

“Who else?” Xu Qingyan looked astonished, rising to his feet and handing her the tablet, “It’s all set, give it a try and see if you can produce that effect.”

Pei Muchan pursed her lips, swallowing back the words she was about to say.

“Fine.”

His implication was clear—if she couldn’t produce the right effect, would he change singers? But with whom could he replace her? He knew so few female singers, countable on one hand.

Pei Muchan took the tablet and glanced at the score, her eyelids twitching slightly.

“South of the Colorful Clouds?”

“Yes.”

“But I’ve never been to Yunnan, and their singing style seems quite different,” Pei Muchan murmured as she perused the score. “I had a classmate whose family was from the grasslands.”

“Their way of singing is quite distinctive; I’ll give it a try.”

Pei Muchan lowered her gaze onto the tablet, her slender, lustrous fingers gently tapping on the desk, keeping rhythm. As she started singing, her voice took on a noticeably more ethereal quality.

“South of the Colorful Clouds~my heart’s abode, peacocks fly away, memories linger on. Jade Dragon Snow Mountain glistens with silver light, beautiful Lijiang, people on the journey~”

“Very good, very good!” Xu Qingyan applauded.

At his words, Pei Muchan gave him a look and put down the tablet.

“Find someone else to sing; I can’t do it.”

“No, I think it’s quite good, you sang well,” Xu Qingyan grinned. He wasn’t lying—it really was quite good. “Why can’t you do it?”

“The effect isn’t that great, try someone else and you’ll see,” Pei Muchan handed back the tablet. “It’s best to find someone with a more ethereal voice, familiar with specific singing techniques.”

As soon as the words left her mouth, Pei Muchan felt a tinge of regret, having spoken too hastily. The only one who fit her own description was Lin Wanzhou.

She stood up, planning to change locations to hide her embarrassment.

“I’m going to check the downstairs office; I have a collaboration this afternoon,” she said.

Both were in their twenties, and even though their emotions weren’t as dramatic as those of sixteen or seventeen-year-olds, how could they not have feelings if they truly liked someone?

Liking someone is inherently a joyous and bright experience. Even at night, the heart remains warm and bright. But it can also bring about uncertainty and cloud one’s mood.

Xu Qingyan watched Pei Muchan leave, somewhat astonished. He thought to himself that women’s thoughts were truly difficult to guess, but with that said, he might as well try Lin Wanzhou.

Regardless, work couldn’t wait.

But before that, he needed to appease Pei Muchan. Muttering to himself that with great power comes great responsibility, he rose to follow her out.
