Chapter 569: Chapter 302: The Moon is Full

Xinghai University, as the twilight descends.

“Hey, do you know that the third season of ‘Love Hunter’ has started airing?” Shen Jinyue was walking down the road when Zhou Lili suddenly brought this up, leaving her somewhat confused.

“Already the third season?”

“Yeah, I heard they’re going to have interactions with people from the previous seasons.” Zhou Lili was excited, “Speaking of how interesting it is, the first season really became legendary.”

“Ah? Why’s that?” Shen Jinyue was still puzzled, “Our season seemed to have a lot of drama, and no guest couples ended up in a relationship.”

The first season of ‘Love Hunter’ indeed had its fair share of drama, losing two guests within a week of starting. As one male guest after another created controversies, the director had no choice but to push through and finish filming.

...

“Because the show will never be able to get such a luxurious cast again, Sister Pei, Zhouzhou, and Brother Xu, those three dominated the music charts for half a year,” Zhou Lili explained, “The guests were so bizarre that watching them date was somewhat uninteresting, which is why Qiang Qiang’s collaboration was very much to the audience’s taste.”

“Is that so?” Shen Jinyue appeared a bit slow on the uptake.

In fact, she really didn’t understand why the first season was such a hit. But now, looking back, she found that it was indeed unexpectedly good, just as Zhou Lili had said.

Perhaps the most significant reason was the guests, as the scripts for love reality shows varied little. It was nothing more than continuously shipping couples, from the screen to real life.

The sudden appearance of a career-oriented group, however, was also a novelty.

Of course, the core issue was that the guests from the second season were not quite as good, which left the audience feeling as if, “there will never be a summer more exhilarating than that one.”

On the campus’s shaded paths, a few scattered students could be seen here and there.

“By the way, did the show team invite you?” Zhou Lili asked as they walked, “I heard they’re going to do separate interviews and then have new and former guests spend a day together.”

“They did invite me.” Shen Jinyue pursed her lips, her hands fidgeting together, “But Xu Qingyan rejected them on my behalf, so they’ll probably have to find someone from the second season.”

“Brother Xu?” Zhou Lili was somewhat taken aback.

“Mhm, I told him the director called me, and I didn’t know how to refuse.” Shen Jinyue slowed her speech, “A few minutes later, he told me he had rejected the offer for me.”

“Won’t that offend people?” Zhou Lili asked, “After all, it’s the director from the first season, and ‘Love Hunter’ is quite popular. I’m just worried about being backstabbed by the show team.”

Upon hearing this, Shen Jinyue didn’t respond. She had asked the same question that day, and Xu Qingyan had only replied with a “heh.”

“What has Brother Xu been up to lately? Haven’t heard anything about him.”

As the two entered the dormitory building, Shen Jinyue fished out the keys from her LV bag and said,

“Seems like he’s busy filming, he’s the producer… Lately, he responds to messages mostly at midnight. Sometimes it’s three or four in the morning, sometimes five or six.”

“That busy?” Zhou Lili sighed, “He must not have time to release songs then. Brother Xu is transforming too quickly, but ‘The Legend of Martial Arts’ is indeed good.”

After showering, Shen Jinyue slipped into her loose pajamas and climbed into bed. The standard double room was originally equipped with two single beds, but Shen Jinyue, preferring a bed with a desk underneath, had paid the dorm manager to make the change.

It was all school property anyway, so how it was used within their roles was not a violation of any rules.

The air conditioning was on in the dorm room; Shen Jinyue let the curtains fall, enclosing herself in her own small world defined by her bed. The dim bedside lamp came on, and various objects hung all around the curtains.

Phone stand, toy hanging basket, small table… a treasure trove of items, complete in every detail.

Although Shen Jinyue usually seemed a bit clueless and was particularly slow in matters of the heart, when alone and quiet, she again felt the sense of solitude and a lack of security.

With headphones on, she found her frequently played playlist. She swiped casually, her fingertip stopping on “Stubborn,” and after a moment’s hesitation, she pressed play.

It had been a while since she had listened to Xu Qingyan’s songs. Occasionally, she would listen to Pei Muchan and Lin Wanzhou’s tracks; she had bought both their albums and enjoyed listening to them.

Recently, she listened to Jiang Ling’s new album and was surprisingly impressed. Repeated listening made her unsure if she had heard it wrong, as it seemed to have reminisces of Xu Qingyan.

No matter how you looked at it, Xu Qingyan had indeed “disappeared” for too long. At least in the public eye, while they could hear songs from Pei and Lin, there were only those few from Xu Qingyan.

As the intro played, she slowly closed her eyes.

“People who love me, don’t worry; my stubbornness is kind. The dirtier my hands, the brighter my eyes will shine~”

Some songs don’t catch you at first, but after a while, you begin to appreciate their flavor. Shen Jinyue thought about her own past year and couldn’t help but feel downcast.

All her life, she had been too obedient, never causing trouble for her parents. Therefore, they never worried that their divorce would impact her much, always disregarding her feelings.

Initially, she posted cover videos online and later joined the love reality show, defying her parents to attract their attention through her rebellion.

Who would have known that after joining the show, her parents still divorced. Her father gave her mother a large sum of money, several houses and stock shares, as well as ongoing alimony.

But she was already an adult, and yet they still treated her like a child. On this point, both parents seemed to agree without objection, leaving her with enough money for several lifetimes.

The price was that her father had a new family, and her mother had a new romance. She was left alone, aimlessly going to school, with no clear path for the future.

Since then, she had lost interest in the internet, and with the isolation at school, she had practically faded from the netizens’ view.

Even though Xu Qingyan resolved those issues later, Shen Jinyue still had no plans for a comeback. Her parents were divorced, she didn’t enjoy singing, and she disliked being in the spotlight.
