Lust System: Sword Genius in Women's World

Chapter 39 Mary

"Before we start, how many of you have never held a sword before? Put your hands up," Sofia spoke, and surprisingly, more than 50 hands were up.

"Alright, so everyone grabs a sword and plays with it; that's all for today," Sofia spoke as she walked away.

'Wait, that's all for today,' I muttered, surprised.

Sofia just told us to grab a sword and play with it, and that's all. Is she testing us, or does she just want students who haven't held a sword before to be familiar with a sword?

All the students began grabbing a sword each, and I walked forward, taking one from the rack; most of the students just swung the sword around, and you could easily tell who was a mage and who was a swordsman.

I've played with swords enough, so instead of standing around doing nothing, I'll use my time wisely instead. I saw the girl who fought with Gabriel taking a sword, and I approached her.

"Hi, I'm Xavier" I spoke.

"Hello there, I'm Mary" she replied.

"So Mary what you did during..." I spoke but she stopped me before I could complete the sentence.

"I won't tell you about my skill, don't ask," she said immediately, facing away.

"I wasn't going to ask. I just wanted to tell you that it was amazing, and we should spar," I spoke.

With the way she acted, I knew that was definitely a skill I wanted; it must be a secret skill as when she displayed it, even the Instructors were surprised, but other than that, she still had a lot to learn.

"After seeing me fight? Did you come to the conclusion that you're going to beat me in a duel? Because if you thought so, then you're in for a world of surprise," Mary spoke.

"After what you did to Gabriel, who you sparred with, how would I come to that conclusion? I just wanted to spar with you, that's all," I spoke.

"Alright then, let's go over there," Mary pointed out to an empty spot at the far end.@@novelbin@@

Since Sofia left us to do anything without specific instructions, most of the students, especially the mages, all picked swords and waved them around without doing anything; some of them just began talking to themselves.

Whether this was a test or not, I wanted to spar with Mary, to get to know her better and establish some kind of relationship, and the second reason was to see her ability up close.

If she used it on me, I wanted to know how it felt and what the conditions necessary to achieve it because if her technique had no condition, then it was perfect, but no technique is perfect.

"Here is good right? So where are you from?" I asked with a smile on my face.

"Just because you're a male and you're handsome doesn't mean all the females want to be friends with you" Mary spoke back.

"I came here with a specific goal in mind, and that's to be the best magic knight, and after my year of service, I'll be promoted to a royal knight guarding the palace," Mary continued.

"It seems you already have your whole life figured out, but I just asked where you're from so I can figure out your fighting style and such; I also didn't come here to make friends," I spoke without a hint of emotion in my face.

"Oh...then let's begin, point-based, first to three points," She muttered as she had a frown on her face.

I wanted to flirt with her, but since she doesn't seem interested, let's get right down to it; I've been itching to spar with someone my age for years now, and I've seen her fighting, so unless she uses her skill, I'm most likely going to win.

"I'm ready," I spoke, holding my wooden sword with a relaxed grip, my eyes focused on Mary.

She stood a few paces away, her stance firm, but there was something about the way she carried herself. I didn't mind; it felt like she was calculating what my first move was, but I was waiting for her to attack.

Some of the students saw this and were already turning their attention towards us when I spoke again.

"Ready?"

Mary gave a slight nod, her expression unreadable. She shifted her weight slightly and then lunged toward me with surprising speed. Her sword came down in a quick arc aimed at my shoulder.

I easily parried her strike., the wooden blades clacking against each other.

The impact reverberated through my arms as both of us infused Mana in our wooden swords, but I kept his stance steady, moving with the force rather than resisting it.

Her strike had been fast—faster than I expected—but not as powerful; maybe she was holding back against Gabriel, or she trained for the two-day break, but both of them seemed unlikely.

I stepped to the side and swung my sword low, aiming for her legs.

Mary jumped back right away and thrust her wooden sword toward my chest. I dodged, her strike barely missing me. I faked a move to her left but quickly twisted and aimed for her right side.

She blocked it, but I noticed her movements were slower and not as smooth. I could tell she was skilled, but something was holding her back, or was she holding back against me?

"You know you don't have to hold back right," I grinned, pressing her with quick strikes.

"Hold back" She spoke as her eyes lit up with determination, and she swung wide. I ducked, feeling the air from her sword pass just above my head. Stepping in close, I tapped her lightly on the shoulder with my blade.

"Point," I said, stepping back with a smirk.

She frowned, clearly frustrated, and turned to see all the other students watching our battle; no one would want to lose a battle on their first day at the academy, especially to a male.

Of course, I was skilled, which is why I'm here in the first place, but females hate it when they lose to a male in a fight; even though my dad was the head of the Avalon forces, all his generals were females and extremely powerful too.

I shrugged with a smirk on my face. "Don't worry, just try harder"

Her frown deepened, and without another word, she came at me again, faster and more aggressive this time. Her strikes were sharper, more focused, and faster.

I blocked, parried, and dodged, feeling her frustration grow with every clash.

"Aren't you going to use your technique," I said, our swords locked for a moment.

"I'm not!" she snapped, pushing me away.

"Are afraid to use it?"

Her eyes widened briefly before narrowing again. "So that's your plan, to spar against me and win in front of everyone"
