Chapter 1255 Bold Assumption
Though the memory was vague, Lu Jueyu seemed to have visited once. However, she had never planted ginseng there. Looking at the ginseng, she was certain it came from her space's store.
After a while, she gave up trying to remember. Whether she planted it or not, as long as it benefited people, that was enough.
"Husband, can you help me put this into the herb shed?" she asked.
Li Chenmo wiped his hands and said, "Okay."
Holding a bamboo tray with the ginseng inside, he walked into the room near the backyard. This room was empty, had good ventilation, and received plenty of sunlight—perfect for use as a drying shed.
To avoid suspicion, Li Chenmo and Lu Jueyu had cleaned it up and repurposed it for air-drying medicinal herbs. This way, if anyone asked where they got their medicinal ingredients, they could simply point to this room.
After placing the ginseng on the rack, he didn't leave immediately but checked on the other herbs. Seeing that some were fully dried and ready, he collected them and stored them in labeled jars, which were kept in the next room.
While he was busy in the drying shed, Lu Jueyu went to prepare dinner. Meanwhile, Dong Huang and Feng Lin played in the front yard.
At the same time, Dong Li and Chen Jianmin had just finished collecting pearls.
Looking at the bamboo baskets filled with pearls, Chen Jianmin asked, "Ah Li, are we taking these back like this?"

Shaking his head, Dong Li took out several sacks from the bag tied around his waist and replied, "We will move the pearls into these sacks."
"Okay."
The two of them carefully transferred the pearls into the sacks, tying them securely but leaving some space at the top.
Seeing the empty baskets, Chen Jianmin was about to place the sacks inside when Dong Li stopped him.
"We will use a shoulder pole to carry them," Dong Li said.
Chen Jianmin looked at him in confusion and asked, "Ah Li, are you planning to carry an empty basket back?"
Raising an eyebrow, Dong Li asked him back, "Who said I'm carrying an empty basket? Didn't we say we came here to fish?"
Realization flashed in Chen Jianmin's eyes. He nodded and said, "You are right—we came to fish."
The two exchanged knowing smiles for a moment. Using a fishing net, they caught several large fish and placed them into the bamboo baskets, filling them only halfway.
After leaving the underground cave, they picked some mushrooms and wild vegetables around the lake. They packed the wild vegetables into the sacks, covering the pearls, then topped them off with mushrooms before tying them shut. This way, if anyone opened the sacks, they would only see mushrooms and wild vegetables.
The remaining wild vegetables were used to cover the fish in the baskets. Once everything was set, they finally made their way back. The journey took nearly two hours, and by the time they reached Dong Li's home, the sky had darkened.
As soon as they put down the sacks and baskets, Lu Jueyu stepped out from the kitchen and asked, "Ah Li, why are you back so late?"
Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Dong Li replied, "Mother, we stayed behind to build a pen for Jianmin's boarlets, so we got delayed. Sorry for making you worry."
Lu Jueyu sighed and reminded him, "Next time, come back before dark. The mountains are dangerous after sunset."
"I will listen to you, Mother," Dong Li responded obediently.
Noticing their exhaustion, Lu Jueyu said, "Mother saved some hot water and dinner for you and Jianmin. Wash up first, then go eat."
Dong Li nodded and replied, "Okay."
"Thank you, Aunt Li," Chen Jianmin said with a smile.
After a brief exchange, Lu Jueyu returned to her bedroom to rest.
Meanwhile, Dong Li and Chen Jianmin took a quick bath before heading to the kitchen, where their dinner was still warm on the stove. Once they had eaten, they went to organize their items.
They placed the fish into an earthen jar filled with water near the pond and stored the wild vegetables and mushrooms in bamboo baskets.
When they were done, they transferred the pearls into another earthen jar in the corner near the water tank, filling it to the brim with water before sealing it with a lid.
After ensuring the pearls were properly stored, they both sighed in relief.
While Chen Jianmin was unaware that soaking pearls in water could damage them, Dong Li knew about this fact. However, the water he used wasn't ordinary water—it was the magic water his family used.
Though he didn't know exactly where his parents obtained it, he had long realized that the water in the tank possessed extraordinary properties. After all, it had once revived a dead fish.
With that in mind, he was certain that soaking the pearls in this water wouldn't harm them. In fact, it might even enhance their quality. Despite the boldness of his assumption, he was confident that he was right.
Not knowing his friend's bold action, Chen Jianmin turned to his friend and asked, "Ah Li, what do you plan to do with these pearls?"
"At first, I thought about selling them to Houzi or Doctor Xie. But after seeing their quality, I changed my mind," Dong Li replied.
"Why? Are they not good enough?" Chen Jianmin asked.
"The quality is too good. If we sell them to Houzi or Doctor Xie, it could bring trouble," Dong Li said with a sigh.
Stunned by his words, Chen Jianmin took a moment to grasp his meaning before asking, "So what should we do?"
Dong Li thought for a moment before saying, "Pearls can be used for cosmetics and medicine. I will ask my mother if she wants them."
He patted his friend's shoulder and added, "Don't worry, I won't let you work for nothing. My mother always keeps personal and business matters separate. If my mother wants these pearls, she will definitely pay us."
What do you think?
