Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife

Chapter 1314: A Win-win Solution

Hearing Pan Meijia's words, Lin Meifeng shook her head and said, "Sister-in-law, how can I take your things for free? It's not easy for your family to grow these vegetables."

After a moment, she walked closer and asked, "Sister-in-law, how about I buy them from you? Just name a price."

Pan Meijia was used to selling things in the black market, but this was the first time someone had asked her to sell vegetables in the village. She looked at Lin Meifeng and said, "Sister Meifeng, personal transactions are a crime."

Lin Meifeng thought for a moment before saying, "How about this? I can exchange something with you for the vegetables."

"I found a batch of mushrooms at the foothills of the mountain. They are dried, but they are still fresh and of good quality. I can trade them for your vegetables."

Pan Meijia didn't lack money or mushrooms. But she knew that if she didn't accept the mushrooms, Lin Meifeng wouldn't accept the vegetables either. Since she couldn't accept money, bartering was a good alternative.

After considering the pros and cons, she finally nodded and said, "Okay then. Since mushrooms are more valuable, you can exchange half a pound of dried mushrooms for a kilogram of vegetables."

Unlike fresh mushrooms, dried mushrooms weighed less, so it was reasonable to give more vegetables in return.

Lin Meifeng nodded and said, "Then, I will go back and get the mushrooms first."

Before she left, Pan Meijia stopped her and said, "Sister Meifeng, you can pick the vegetables first and bring me the mushrooms another time."

Thinking about the round trip, Lin Meifeng nodded and said, "Then I will bring them over later."

"Okay."

Without hesitation, Lin Meifeng started selecting vegetables. She had expected to find some lower-quality ones, but to her surprise, all of them were fresh and of high quality. Even the vegetables sold at the state-owned grain and supply stores weren't as good as these.

Overjoyed to get such fresh and plump vegetables, she decided to exchange two and half pounds of dried mushrooms for five kilograms of vegetables.

She picked two kilograms of cucumbers, one kilogram of eggplants, one kilogram of pole beans, and one kilogram of lettuce.

When she was done, Pan Meijia said, "Sister Meifeng, you can borrow my bamboo basket."

Since Lin Meifeng had only brought a small basket, she didn't refuse and said, "Thank you, sister-in-law."

After packing the vegetables, Lin Meifeng took her leave and returned home in a good mood.

Not long after she left, Jiang Ziyu asked, "Sister-in-law, who was that?"

"Sister Meifeng is Aunt Lin's niece, the matchmaker in our village. Her father sent her to stay with her aunt not long ago," Pan Meijia replied.

Curious, Jiang Ziyu asked again, "Why? Did she cause trouble at home?"

Li Lingyun raised his eyebrows at his friend's question. While he liked to talk, he wasn't someone who pried into other people's personal matters.

Pan Meijia didn't know him well, so she assumed he just enjoyed gossip like others.

She shook her head and said, "Sister Meifeng is an honest and hardworking person. She came here because her father wanted her aunt to help her find a husband."

"She is still young, and her father is already so anxious?" Jiang Ziyu asked in surprise.

"Well, she is already 22 years old, if I remember correctly. It's just that she looks younger now after being nourished by her aunt's care. When she first came to our village, she looked like someone in her thirties," Pan Meijia replied in a low voice.

Li Lingyun noticed his wife's excitement as she shared the village's well-known news with Jiang Ziyu. Since it wasn't anything private, he didn't stop her and continued working.

Jiang Ziyu was taken aback by her words and said, "She looks so young. How could she have looked like someone in her thirties? Sister-in-law, you must be joking."

"I'm not lying. When she came, she was so thin and haggard. I guess she didn't have a good life with her family," Pan Meijia said.

Hearing this, Jiang Ziyu rubbed his chin and thought for a while before suddenly asking, "Do you think she would be willing to follow her husband to a faraway city?"

As soon as he said this, Li Lingyun asked, "Are you interested in her?"

"Well, my mother keeps urging me to find a wife. She is not bad looking, and your wife said she is honest and hardworking. It wouldn't hurt to try," Jiang Ziyu replied casually.

Pan Meijia was surprised by his words and asked, "Brother-in-law, you are not married yet?"

Spreading his arms, Jiang Ziyu replied helplessly, "Sister-in-law, look at me. I'm rough and uneducated. No one in my hometown wants their daughters to marry me. This year, I'm already 30, and I haven't even had an offer for a blind date."

"Since no one in my hometown is willing, I was planning to find a wife here. From what you said, it seems Comrade Lin is facing the same trouble as me. If this matchmaking works out, it will solve both our problems. It's a win-win solution."

"But you don't like her, and there is no guarantee she will like you or want to go with you to Yunnan," Pan Meijia said.

"That's why we need to try first. I will stay here a few more days and see if Comrade Lin and I have mutual feelings. But for this, I must trouble my sister-in-law to talk to her aunt," Jiang Ziyu replied with a smile.

Thinking about his situation, Pan Meijia found it pitiful. She nodded readily, patted her chest, and said, "Brother-in-law, leave it to me."

Seeing how confident she was, Jiang Ziyu laughed and said, "Then I will trouble you, sister-in-law."

Pan Meijia was someone who couldn't wait once she had made up her mind. So after they reached an agreement, she looked at her husband and said, "Husband, I will go visit my third sister-in-law."
