Chapter 63: Third Uncle Xu’s Wish
Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Third Uncle Xu’s Wish
“Of course it counts, as long as Third Uncle Xu listens to me well, I’ll make sure you get to go wherever you want,” Xu Ying said, carefully transferring the stir-fried dishes onto a plate.
Third Uncle Xu’s eyes darkened with a sinister look: “I want to work at the textile factory, any position is fine, as long as I can get in.”
Xu Ying didn’t notice the expression on her younger uncle’s face, and she quickly agreed, “Sure, as long as you do as I say, at most three months, or even just one month, and I’ll get you in.”
In her previous life, Third Uncle Xu seemed to have made his fortune by making clothing accessories, so getting a job at the textile factory now could be considered an early start to a legitimate career.
She had been foolish in her last life, but she didn’t believe that Dong Wenzhong and Chen Yanran, those two fools, could have built a big business without someone helping them.
So, she must improve herself and elevate her family members too. If Dong Wenzhong and his wife didn’t have anyone behind them, that would be best. If they did, she just hoped that her family wouldn’t hold her back, if not actually support her.
People, once they start doing bad things, can be more terrifying than demons.
“Third Uncle, please take out the Mandarin Duck Chicken, the mushroom and vegetarian abalone, and the fried meatballs,” she instructed.
Upon hearing this, Third Uncle Xu stood up and got to work.
Eldest Sister-in-law Xu couldn’t close her mouth in surprise. Once Third Uncle Xu had left, she timidly asked, “Little sister, are you really going to find a job for Third Uncle?”
It sounded as if finding a job was as easy as picking something up off the ground.
If it hadn’t cost her mother one hundred yuan and sought someone’s help for this job of keeping work points, she would have suspected that jobs out there were as easy to pick up as stones from the ground.
Thankfully Shitou didn’t know what she was thinking; otherwise, he would surely roll his eyes: Mom, am I that easy to pick up?
“Really, as long as he obeys, I’ll do my best to find him one. If I can’t find anything, then there’s nothing I can do,” Xu Ying dared not boast too much.
But I still have ways.
Eldest Sister-in-law Xu sighed in relief upon hearing this; she thought, how could jobs be so easy to find?
However, Third Uncle Xu really trusted his niece, genuinely believing that she could find him a job.
“Eldest sister-in-law, the last dish is almost ready, please take the finished ones out!” Xu Ying pointed to the cutting board on the side.
The Xu family was large, with just Xu Ying’s family consisting of eight people, and adding Uncle Xu and Third Uncle Xu’s families, it totaled over twenty.
Mr. Xu and his son brought out another table from the house, setting up two large tables directly in the courtyard.
The men were going to drink, so they separated the women from the men.
When Xu Ying went outside, Mr. Xu and Mr. Xu were already drinking together.
When the men mentioned their daughter going to work at the State-owned Restaurant, several of the Xu men’s faces lit up with excitement, as if they themselves had gotten the job.
Uncle Xu picked up his cup and drained it in one go, wiping his mouth, he exclaimed, “Our Yingying has made a name for herself, working at the State-owned Restaurant from now on, and will be eating the country’s grain.”
“That’s right, as if you don’t know whose child my niece is,” Third Uncle Xu bragged as he downed his drink in one go. @@novelbin@@
Mr. Xu couldn’t stop grinning with pride because of his brothers’ compliments.
Old Mr. Xu was so delighted he felt like jumping up; he stood up with a “bang,” raised his cup excitedly, and declared, “Let’s all take a drink together to celebrate my granddaughter getting a job at the State-owned Restaurant.”
All the people at both tables lifted their cups; the men drank alcohol, while the women drank water.
Xu Jing glanced at Xu Ying with envy on her face, “Yingying, you’re really amazing, being able to work in the kitchen of the State-owned Restaurant. If I could be a waitress there, even as a temporary worker, I’d be happy.”
Xu Ying looked at her and said, “When I get there, I’ll take a look for you. If they’re short-staffed, I’ll let you know in advance.”
Xu Jing was just voicing her complaints, not expecting such good fortune, and immediately lit up with joy, wrapping her arms around Xu Ying, “Yingying, you’re the best, cousin loves you to death.”
“Cousin, if you don’t let go, you’re going to strangle me,” Xu Ying gasped for air, as her cousin’s grip was so strong.
Xu Jing quickly let go, looking at Xu Ying with guilt, “I’m sorry, Yingying.”
Xu Ying took a few deep breaths, then glanced at Xu Jing: “Let’s eat.”
Xu Jing was reminded by her comment and only then remembered about eating. She turned her head to look at the table, where each dish that had been full was now missing more than half.
Now, Xu Jing couldn’t be bothered with chatting and picked up her chopsticks to attack the dishes on the table.
“Mmm, this is so delicious. I’m really envious of those people who will get to eat your cooking every day from now on!” Xu Jing squinted her eyes in sheer enjoyment.
Thinking back to the food she previously had at home, it was practically pig feed.
Xu Ying wasn’t the least bit hungry; she had a full meal at the Gu family during lunch, and she had had her fill just from tasting the dishes while cooking them in the evening.
She watched her family happily chatting away and got up to walk outside into the yard.
She hadn’t gone far when she ran into Huo Chen, who was carrying Granny Huo on his back.
“Huo Chen, what’s wrong with Granny Huo?”
“She caught a cold, but after getting an injection and some medicine, she’s alright now,” Huo Chen said, looking up. He carried Granny Huo’s arm over his shoulder, his muscles bulging, his arms strong, and his pace steady.
Xu Ying nodded and, recalling the previously doubled goodwill value, she looked up at Huo Chen with an eager smile. “Huo Chen, you haven’t had dinner yet, have you? Let me go and cook for you.”
Huo Chen was taken aback and before he could refuse, he watched Xu Ying heading towards his house.
Xu Ying’s legs weren’t as long as Huo Chen’s, and no matter how fast she walked, he caught up with her in just a few strides.
However, Huo Chen didn’t refuse. He still remembered the last meal Xu Ying cooked for him.
“Xu Ying, are you going to work at the State-owned Restaurant?” Huo Chen asked, looking down at the small head in front of him.
Xu Ying nodded, “Yeah, I start work the day after tomorrow.”
Upon hearing this, the ripple that had risen in Huo Chen’s heart disappeared without a trace.
“You’re doing quite well now.”
A gust of wind blew by, and Xu Ying didn’t catch what he said. “What? What did you say?”
“I said, when you make dinner for me later, I’ll compensate you.”
“There’s no need to be so polite; you’ve saved my life before. It’s only right that I cook for you.” Xu Ying said nonchalantly, but she hadn’t hesitated to take things with her when she left.
When she arrived at the Huo Family gate, Old Hui sensed her presence and immediately jumped down from the wall, rushing to Xu Ying and licking her with its big tongue.
Anyone unaware would think it was a big grey dog.
Xu Ying patted its head, knowing the creature had been won over by her Bone Marrow Cleansing Pills.
Huo Chen smiled at the sight of Old Hui’s behavior, as it was the first time Old Hui had been so affectionate with someone else.
But seeing Old Hui pawing at Xu Ying and licking her, he unhappily said, “Old Hui, go back.”
Old Hui looked at Huo Chen sorrowfully and then reluctantly ran away.
Xu Ying particularly liked Old Hui, and she felt a bit sad to see it leave, but she hadn’t forgotten the main reason for her visit today and went straight to the Huo Family’s kitchen.
“Good heavens!” Xu Ying entered the kitchen and was shocked.
Who had been spreading rumors, claiming that the Huo family was the poorest in Xujia Village?
Look at their kitchen; they had everything one could need.
If this was poverty, it was better than her own home.
Indeed, it’s dangerous to believe hearsay.
Xu Ying saw the wild chickens and rabbits hanging next to the kitchen and picked one of each.
“Huo Chen, can you cook too?” Xu Ying popped out her head and asked.
Huo Chen found her appearance particularly adorable and thought to himself how nice it would be to give her a gentle flick.
What do you think?
