Chapter 89: Chapter 89 The Scumbag
Gao Guihua was particularly generous with the servings because Xu Ying was an insider. Every dish was heaped to the brim.
This resulted in Mrs. Xu struggling to finish her meal, despite eating as much as she could.
“Qiuye, come sit here,” said Mrs. Xu, looking at Xu Qiuye with fondness.
Xu Qiuye, flattered by the attention, made her way over. She had some understanding of Mrs. Xu’s personality, but seeing Mrs. Xu treating her so kindly still made Xu Qiuye quite happy.
Being favored by her future mother-in-law meant fewer troubles after marriage.
“Thank you, Auntie.”
Xu Ying took out the menu and handed it to both of them, “Take a look and see what you’d like to eat.”
The Gu family certainly had status and was not short on money. It was just her mother who was down-to-earth, letting others eat their leftovers.
Gu Fuying was generous with spending and ordered two more meat dishes, which left Mrs. Xu constantly clucking her tongue in amazement. A child from a wealthy family sure knew how to spend.
Such an extravagant lunch.
Xu Qiuye was much more modest and ordered a serving of meat dumplings.
Mrs. Xu was very pleased. No matter how rich one is, they shouldn’t be wasteful. Qiuye was good, a suitable girl for married life.
“Qiuye, eat more, girls shouldn’t be too skinny, it’s not pretty. Looking a bit plump is more attractive and lucky,” said Mrs. Xu, who liked chubby girls. Her own daughter just wouldn’t gain weight, despite being given all the good food; yet she stayed thin.
Aside from some baby fat on her face, she was hardly meaty anywhere else.
“Auntie, you eat too—have some meat to nourish yourself.” Xu Qiuye thanked Mrs. Xu, put some braised pork into her bowl, and gave her half of the dumplings, “Auntie, these dumplings are Yingying’s creation.
They weren’t on the menu before. Try them, they’re really delicious.”
Mrs. Xu was already full, but upon hearing that her daughter had made them, she rolled up her sleeves and dug in. She had to eat a few more.
“Delicious, who knew you could make dumplings with fish?” Mrs. Xu exclaimed with a surprised face as she ate.
But truth be told, the taste really was excellent.
“Burp~” Mrs. Xu let out a satisfied burp, nearly spitting out a dumpling from her throat.
Xu Ying quickly poured her a cup of water, “Mom, are you full? Don’t eat too much!”
Mrs. Xu waved her hand, “I’m full, I’m full. It’s just that I’ve never had these dumplings you invented, so I ate a few more. But really, they taste wonderful.@@novelbin@@
When you’re back home, you should teach me how to make them. I’ll cook some for your dad and the rest.”
“Sure, I’ll teach you a few more dishes when we have time.”
Gu Fuying watched Xu Ying with eyes full of gratitude. While Mrs. Xu and Xu Qiuye were talking, she leaned close and whispered, “Thank you, Yingying.”
“Thank me for what?” Xu Ying was confused.
Suddenly, Gu Fuying’s eyes turned red, startling Xu Ying; she hadn’t mistreated the girl, “What’s wrong? Don’t stay silent, talk to me,” Xu Ying urged, concerned.
Gu Fuying, with teary eyes, gave a small smile, “It’s nothing, actually, it’s good news. Wu Yu and I broke up.”
Upon hearing this, a smile appeared on Xu Ying’s face; it was good news. Wu Yu was a jerk, anyway, and not worthy of Fuying, “There’s still a long life ahead of you, you’re still young.
We can take our time to find someone else, find someone a hundred times better than him.”
Gu Fuying wiped away the tears from the corner of her eyes. She was so lucky to know Yingying. This girl was like her little lucky star, helping her avoid so many disasters.
She had just found out that the previous incident of being cornered by hooligans was not an accident at all; it was all a play staged by Wu Yu, with the purpose of ruining her and then making her feel so inferior that she would break up with him.
The coldness in Gu Fuying’s heart was impossible to ignore when she thought about such a sinister and ruthless scheme being used against her by the very man she had been in a relationship with for more than two years, who was now destroying her for another woman.
Were all of his usual expressions of care nothing but pretense?
“Mmhmm, I know. A few days ago, my mom and sister-in-law took me to the movies, and we just happened to see Wu Yu with his factory colleagues, watching a movie together. They were laughing and talking, even more intimate than he had ever been with me,” Gu Fuying said through gritted teeth with anger.
After this incident, Gu’s mother went straight to Wu Yu’s textile factory to cause a scene. She had been the one to find him that job, so of course, she could take it away just as easily.
Wu Yu still had the thick skin to argue with Gu’s mother, but she didn’t give in to him at all and pulled off his cover in front of many people in the factory, “Wu Yu, you’re dating my daughter. I went to all lengths to get you a job for the sake of my daughter’s happiness. You got the job and then immediately got involved with your colleague. Is this how you treat my daughter right?”
This big news blew up in the textile factory.
Wu Yu was cursed at by a crowd of people, not only shameless, but he even took pride in it: “Getting a job in the factory was your doing in getting me through the doors, but passing the exam to get in was my own ability.”
“What ability do you have, selling your looks?” Wu Yu was haughty in the factory, always looking down on others with poorer family backgrounds.
Having only been working at the factory for a month, he had already offended many people.
Now that this had happened, no one was standing up for him.
The girl who had been dating Wu Yu kept silent, sitting in the office looking at the forms in her hand, oblivious to the commotion outside.
Wu Yu’s face was iron blue, but the insults kept coming from everyone, “Young people these days just don’t work hard, only looking for shortcuts, shameless indeed.”
“That’s right, if my son did this, I would break his legs,” others said indignantly.
Seeing his true face exposed, Gu’s mother felt relieved and immediately turned to leave.
Wu Yu was directly dismissed by the higher-ups.
As to what happened after, Gu Fuying had no idea, but at least she had completely broken up with that total jerk.
Xu Ying, hearing all this from Gu Fuying, couldn’t help but worry about the girl. This naiveté, she thought, was much like her own in a past life.
“Wu Yu is really a scumbag; avoid such people in the future, and if you see him, hurry away,” Xu Ying said, fearing that this man would come looking for Fuying again.
After all, such men are the most selfish; they would do anything for their own desires.
Gu Fuying nodded, “My mother also told me about that. She said Wu Yu is just greedy for glory and wealth. If that girl breaks up with him, who knows if he will come for revenge? These days, my mom rushes to pick me up immediately after work.”
Indeed, Wu Yu tried to find Gu Fuying several times but was met with disappointment.
“Yingying, Aunt, we should get going to work.” Gu Fuying checked the time, patted Qiu Ye, and reminded her it was time to leave.
Xu Qiuye got up, said her goodbyes to Mrs. Xu, and hurried back on her bike.
Mrs. Xu, having had a full meal, was now feeling very uncomfortable. After walking around a few laps, she came back and said, “I’m going to visit Eldest Aunt Xu’s house later. Your grandfather asked me to bring her some food. Do you want to come?”
It was then that Xu Ying realized what the heavy bag her mother had carried was. No wonder she had felt it was so burdensomely heavy—it was grain.
“I’ll go with you,” she said. Such a heavy sack, she couldn’t bear to let her mother carry it alone. Moreover, now that she was working in the county, it was time to visit Eldest Aunt Xu’s house.
It was also because the Xu family didn’t often come to the restaurant for meals, so she had never run into them in all this time.
What do you think?
