Chapter 350: Chapter 125 Hurry and Run! (2nd Update)
When Mu Fan entered the crevice, he discovered that the space below was incredibly spacious. It was a huge corridor, and standing inside wearing exoskeleton armor, there was still more than a meter of space above his head to the rock wall, and the width was a good five or six meters.
Now the two of them stood side by side in the corridor, paved with reddish-brown color. White Hair felt the quiet atmosphere around them and whispered, “What kind of ghost place is this? It looks so sinister.” After speaking, he pulled down his goggles, and a faint orange glow lit up.
“We’ll walk inside for 15 minutes; once Captain Luo’s specified time is up, we’ll return.”
“At least you have a conscience.”
Mu Fan did not buckle down the face shield of the tactical helmet; his eyes in the dark were the best night vision devices. When the bushes covered the entrance again, the place became pitch black.
The two of them moved forward slowly, one after the other.
Now Mu Fan also dared not be careless because this was his first time entering such a large-scale underground corridor, especially one related to the Zeg Clan.
All around and underfoot was the slippery insect moss, and both deliberately slowed their pace.
Although the corridor was winding, there were no side passages after walking for a few minutes.
Finally, unable to tolerate the oppressive atmosphere, White Hair said to Mu Fan, “Mu Fan, not to mention anything else, this is definitely the first time in my life I’ve had such a high-level adventure.”
His voice arose, but there was no echo as if it was all absorbed by the insect moss that resembled soft tissue.
“Why do I see you so practiced? Have you seen ugly things like Zeg before?”
Mu Fan looked ahead, walking carefully, and shook his head, “No, this is my first time too.”
“You haven’t activated the night vision function of the tactical helmet?” White Hair finally noticed that Mu Fan hadn’t pulled down the face shield and asked in surprise.
“I can see clearly, I don’t need it for now.”
“I really want to ask you if you’re human…”
He muttered and then saw Mu Fan holding the wall of the shaft to turn a corner.
So, holding back disgust, White Hair also grasped the sticky wall to turn.
“How much longer do we have to walk?”
“Eight more minutes.”
“Our communication signal is gone…”
…
The two men walked, one after the other.
Now Mu Fan could feel they were slowly descending because the slope had been gently downward since they entered.
“Mu Fan, one piece of good news and one piece of bad news.”
Teeth clicked, signaling Black to speak directly.
“The good news is that through the battlefield recorder, I can tell you for sure that you’ve found the Zeg’s nest.”
“And the bad news is that this is definitely not an abandoned nest because, according to the biological detector of the exoskeleton, those insect mosses attached to the shaft wall are biologically active. Meaning… this is a nest that is currently being used by the Zeg Clan.”
Mu Fan stopped his forward steps, calming his rapidly beating heart.
“What’s the matter?”
“We might really have entered deep into the Zeg Clan’s nest,” Mu Fan turned and said.
“… Can I say that I was certain of it when I saw that disgusting moss? What normal place would have such disgusting things!”
“This time, we really need to be careful; we might run into Zeg at any time.”
“In a place like this? Then it’s only a head-on collision!” White Hair glanced around.
“It’s better to be cautious.”
Mu Fan began to pull out a laser long spear, not activating it but holding the alloy spear body in a ready stance.
“I hate it when you scare people like this.” He swallowed saliva, trying to compose himself, and pressed both hands on the triggers of the machine gun module. He really didn’t want to stay in this sinister environment for another second.
This was damn frightening. Now, thinking about the alien species from the Outer Domain that looked like spittoons, he didn’t find them ugly at all.
No, I have to hurry back to normal human society.
This is not a place for good people!
Feeling the eerie atmosphere, he shivered all over and quickly followed Mu Fan’s steps.
The corridor grew wider and wider.
After going deeper for a few more minutes, the corridor was wide enough for seven or eight people to stand side by side, with over two meters of space between their heads and the top of the shaft wall.
Mu Fan’s figure stopped again.
“Why have we stopped again, big brother? This is really scary, you know?”
“There are two paths ahead.”
What?
Peeking from behind, White Hair indeed found that there were two tunnels, one to the left and one to the right, ahead. Mu Fan was probably in the middle of deciding which way to go.
“Are you thinking about which way to go?” White Hair chuckled, moving closer.
“Yeah.” Mu Fan was closing his eyes to sense his surroundings, yet his Spiritual Perception hadn’t detected anything unusual at the moment.
“Let’s go left!” White Hair said with certainty.
Hearing his teammate speak so confidently and having no perception results of his own, Mu Fan didn’t hesitate, “Okay.”
A few meters later, Mu Fan suddenly asked, “How are you so sure we should choose the left?”
“Men left, women right, a good man doesn’t go right,” White Hair replied as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
Then he saw Mu Fan, who had been walking fine just moments before, suddenly slip, but he quickly steadied himself.
13 minutes had passed; according to the plan, they were supposed to head back in another 2 minutes.
Moreover, communication signals had already been lost—if they didn’t return soon, Captain Luo and the others would truly start to worry.
“There’s airflow and a fishy smell…” Mu Fan murmured suddenly.
“Haha, what did I say—there’s definitely something on the left.”
After rounding another twisty passage, their vision suddenly widened.
What was this place in front of them? It seemed vast.
Through the night vision feature of the goggles, White Hair saw that the pit wall stopped extending three meters ahead; before them was an enormous space that seemed to have no end!
Both of them stepped out of the corridor.
“To think there’s such a huge area underground, it feels like I’ve just walked into an auditorium,” White Hair remarked with a sigh, glancing overhead and ahead.
Now, they stood on a platform with no path ahead; by looking at the vast empty space in front of them, they could determine that they were about halfway into this immense chamber.
“Hello~”
“Hello, hello…”
White Hair’s voice echoed, diminishing as it reverberated.
“No more road.”
“Right.” Mu Fan nodded. Now, it seemed their only option was to go back.
“Wait, let me see what this place really looks like, these night vision goggles can only show outlines.” Walking forward, White Hair lifted his hand.
“Bang!”
A bright light burst forth from the grenade launcher in his hand, striking the top of the pit wall, then slowly fell.
The entire area was illuminated, clear as day.
The huge and empty walls were covered in dark red Insect Moss, much deeper in color than what they had seen outside and at the entrance.
“Look below.”
This time, White Hair led the way; Mu Fan followed, and they looked down from the rock platform.
It was like the onset of nightfall, with the stars twinkling above.
A pale yellow-green glow rose from below.
The illumination flare that was slowly descending finally cleared up the area thirty meters beneath them.
Rustle, rustle, rustle…
And more yellow-green lights flickered into existence.
White Hair’s face went pale, sweat poured out like syrup, and he stammered, “Mu Fan… I’m not seeing things, am I?”
Mu Fan’s face was equally filled with shock but he was much calmer than White Hair, swallowing his spit, “You’re not seeing things.”
“Damn it, what are we waiting for, run, damn it!”
With a cry of horror, White Hair turned and pulled Mu Fan to flee.
Mu Fan, usually fearless, did not hesitate at all at this moment and even ran a bit faster than White Hair.
Right now, Mu Fan had no desire to fight.
Because…
In that vast space below, the ground and the walls within sight were infested with countless Zeg!
Those relentless, cruel eyes opened and almost instantaneously locked onto them the moment they made eye contact!
