146. The Misty Grove, Part 1: Tiny Rain (Jonathan Saffron)

“There’s nowhere to land,” Rosie the ebony-skinned flamingo Harpy observes as we skirt the edge of the Misty Grove. With fog obscuring everything, it’s impossible to know where it’s safe to touch down.

“We’ll have to approach on foot,” Monal the pheasant Harpy with colorful plumage agrees.

““There’s nothing for it, then. We’d volunteer to drop first since we’re durable, but we don’t want to risk getting separated from you all.””

“Yeah, I vote we go in together,” Chris agrees, the angora bunny girl with the pink jellyfish tutu nods her head emphatically, “Not that I don’t trust Olindia to protect me—it’s a great confidence boost to have the healer riding with you—but I won’t last long by myself.”

The eight of us land on the edge of the woods outside the curtain of mist and dismount.

Flou chimes in from the blood-crystal rhinestones on Chris’s Playmate outfit, “Remind us why you’re tagging along this time?”

“Tch. Stewie got eaten, and I don’t want to be next, is that so hard to understand? Cottontail and Megan evolved after putting themselves in danger, and Lois got the Matron slot in the New Warren. How else is a girl supposed to get ahead?”

“And we’re helping this floozy because…?” Olindia asks from the tutu.

*Sigh* “…Because you can fuck my evolved pussy six ways to Sunday afterward.”

That’s nice of her to offer, but I would’ve helped her regardless. I know, but it helps give the rest of us motivation, *wink*

“I want all your holes, skank, or I walk,” the pink Slime threatens.

Chris rolls her eyes. “Fine, fine. All my holes, jellybitch.”

Olindia laughs, “Oh, hell yiss, I like that. This jellybitch is going to fist you so deep tonight I’ll wear you like a wristband.”

“Juuuust great.”

Thick mist looms before us like a solid wall. How are we going to navigate through this…? That question seems to be on everyone’s mind as we stare on.

“Gale isn’t sure she like this place.” The Rainbird floats forward using her levitation ability to wave a wing through the perpetual, ephemeral fog with a confused expression. Then she dodges aside without warning.

An instant later, a blue globule launches through the space she’d occupied, shooting out of the woods towards us. Rosie and Monal react with zealous fervor—clawing at the threat with their ruby talons like feral beasts. They shred the basic Slime into strips of gelatinous flesh in seconds while screaming at the top of their lungs.

“Don’t you EVER touch Mistress Gale!” Rosie screeches at the inanimate Slime core as it falls lifeless to the ground, the Harpy girl no worse for wear. It seems their blood-crystal talon sheaths protected the girls from the caustic Slime fluids somewhat.

Monal scuffs dirt onto the spurned core and flounces over to Gale alongside Rosie, the two of them nuzzling up to the Rainbird like chicks begging attention from their hen. “You’re not hurt, are you, Mistress Gale? Did we do good?”

Two elegant ruby daggers appear in either of Chris’s hands and two long jellyfish tentacles manifest from under the tutu to hover about the angora bunny girl defensively. A third tendril brushes the dirt from the Slime core and pulls it inside Chris’s honeypot, making the bunny girl’s eye twitch at having her cunt being used like a pocket. As an aside, Alex’s Brand and the mark of their union are visible on the tummy of her Playmate outfit’s corset teddy like embroidery, the zygote unbothered by recent events as a Slime Core counter appears at ‘1.’

Gale happily bobs her head at the two avian maidens, her wings brushing Rosie’s pink braid of straight-back cornrows and Monal’s fluffy brown hair with iridescent ponytail feathers. “Rosie and Monal are good girls!” Then her attention returns to contemplating the Misty Grove.

“How did she know it was coming?” Chris asks us, the bunny girl shaking with fear like a leaf in the wind. “It was so fast! And it came out of nowhere. Scary.”

I’m curious too. I have no idea, but I suddenly suspect Alex wouldn’t have let us come alone without Olindia’s healing magic. We’re no pushovers, but Slimes aren’t to be underestimated either.

“Hmm?” Gale mumbles despite the depth of her fugue when she hears the question, answering dismissively without turning to address us, “Oh, I felt the tiny rain parting.”

““Tiny rain?”” we ask in unison.

Chris turns to look at us and makes a ‘cuckoo sign’ with her finger at her temple while giving Gale the side-eye. Rosie and Monal glare at the angora bunny but give no comment.

Our obvious befuddlement breaks Gale’s focus, the Rainbird scanning our faces as she asks, “Can everyone not see the tiny rain?”

I don’t think we can be blamed for looking at her like she’s crazy at this point. However, we’re the ones proven dimwitted.

Gale waves her wing at the fog, and it disappears. No, if I squint, I can see hundreds of raindrops hovering in the air where the mist vanished. Another flick of Gale’s wing summons the droplets to zoom toward her and orbit around the Rainbird as she hovers in place like a miniature God Beast.

“See? Tiny rain.”

Our jaws drop.

Rosie and Monal hug each other and scream, “Mistress Gale is amazing!”

While we recover from our shock, the fog rolls in to fill the gap left behind. It seems we have a path forward after all. ““Can you clear the way for us?””

Gales ignores us while experimenting with her breath, the Rainbird spewing rings of thick clouds from between her lips like an exhaling smoker. Then she blows a stream of fluffy white fog into existence that clings to her body, forming bikini bottoms, a bralette, and a cottony collar. Blinking herself back to reality, she answers, “Sure, sure, sure! Gale can do it!”

The Rainbird turns towards the Misty Grove again and flaps her wings with surprising authority. We stare in awe as the fog dissolves like melting cotton candy in a massive sphere around her. The minuscule water droplets congregate to the point they become visible and fall to the ground in a ceaseless drizzle even as an endless supply of fog rolls in towards us. Gale’s magic easily overcomes whatever is causing this perpetual mist.

"Mistress Gale is incredible!!!"

With that first problem solved, our party is finally able to enter the Misty Grove.
