Mountain Sitting Immortal

Chapter 125 Pretending To Be Happy.

He knows Irvin's habits, the food he likes, his favorite brothel, his favorite alcoholic beverage, and many people with known connections to him. So he has a direction in which he should go looking for him.

He took the picture of the Scarred Raven that was drawn on paper with a black pencil and went about it with it in search of his targets.

He would beat people and torture them until they gave him information on who he was looking for. Then he would kill them.

The Scarred Raven's associates are criminals. They are either parts of gangs or doing even worse business that they didn't have the guts to make public by forming a gang.

So he didn't feel guilty about killing them. In fact, he was happy to do it because these people tended to have money too.

He would torture them for information about Irvin and the location of their stash of money. Even if they didn't know where Irvin was, he would still earn some money from them. That way, his time and energy were not wasted.

He made slow but steady progress. It was progress paved with blood. Many people gave their lives every day for how far he went in his quest for revenge.

His life wasn't easy either. He couldn't go home so as not to alert his targets that he was still alive. He had to spend most of his days sleeping in expensive hotels and eating overpriced meals.

He could only sleep during the day because he had to go out at night to interrogate people. Then there were the large chests of money that he had to carry all by himself.

All in all, it was a nightmare for him. That's why he was always grinning. He was trying to deceive himself into being happy.

His laughter and good mood were fake. He was just pretending to be happy. He was so good at it that he would smile in his sleep and dream of finding chests of money.

What he really wanted was to be able to return home, sleep in his own bed, and earn Karma again. But he couldn't for now. So he had to be content with earning large sums of money.

He had to deceive himself that everything was alright, so he said to himself, "Maybe I should forget about making wine. Maybe what I should be doing is robbing people."

He said that with a smile too. If he is being honest with himself, it is a genuine smile because he earned a lot of money last night. Read latest chapters on My Virtual Library Empire

Last night was when he earned the largest amount of money. He earned 41 gold coins.

It has been two weeks now. It wasn't every night that he earned money. Sometimes he earned nothing.

The smallest he earned was 5 gold coins. On average, he earned 12 gold coins. So last night was a special anomaly.

It is because he managed to track down the boss of a sex trafficking ring. The man also gave him information on how to contact the Scarred Raven.

He intends to have a reunion with Irvin tonight. In the meantime, he is reminiscing about what happened last night.

After thinking about the good things, he began to think about the bad things. The first bad thing that came to his mind was why he didn't earn more from the criminals.

He grumbled inwardly, "They are all poor criminals. They deal with poor people, so they too will be poor. If I want to make a big score, I should go after someone powerful. But who should I go after?"

These low-level criminals deal with easily acquirable low-value products. One of those products is human life.

Human life is inherently cheap in Ethera. Its value is dependent on how many transformations a life has undergone.

Someone that kidnaps and sells ordinary people will only earn a small amount of money compared to kidnapping and selling someone at the ninth transformation.

The difference in value of a third transformation woman and that of a ninth transformation woman being forced into prostitution can be as low as a hundred times or as high as a thousand times.

Strong people don't do these low-level crimes. It is just not worth their time. It is better for them to open a dojo than to deal in sex trafficking.

The products in sex trafficking might be free to acquire, but their value is just not worth the effort. This is making it so that the time and effort he is putting into robbing these low-level criminals sometimes isn't worth the effort.

Sometimes he gains nothing from robbing them. He will have to be able to acquire the life savings of a crime boss for him to earn anything worthwhile. Their lackeys who don't have any savings are worth nothing.

But he has gotten a taste of free money and doesn't want to stop. Since low-level criminals can't satiate him anymore, he has decided to set his sights on bigger targets.

The problem is not finding a bigger target to rob, as there are a lot of wealthy people in Agate City. The problem is how to succeed in robbing and getting away with it because in Ethera, rich people are powerful people.

Their power is not political power. Their power is in terms of cultivation because it is the only way to protect their wealth and prevent their lives from being taken because of their wealth.

He knows a lot of wealthy people and entities in Agate City. There is the Dyson family, the ten-thousand-beast hunting center, the orchid pill pavilion, the black metal forge, and the silk sheets tower.

All of them are very rich. But all of them are very strong. They all possess protectors that are at the second mortal coil.

These protectors not only protect their business from being robbed; they also protect their interests. The beast hunting center, for example, will actively hunt anyone who engages in the business of buying carcasses.
