Chapter 44: Tong Wenjie’s Resolve! “I won’t sell myself… Last night doesn’t count”
Ding-dong,
System update complete. Would the host like to sign in?
The familiar voice of the system echoed in Su Bai’s mind.
Without hesitation, Su Bai responded. He was long accustomed to the system’s rewards, each a lucrative opportunity he couldn’t afford to miss.
Ding-dong
Sign-in successful. Congratulations, host! You’ve received ownership of a retail property.”
The system’s voice faded, and Su Bai immediately saw detailed information about the newly acquired property.
He was stunned to discover the property was near Chunfeng Middle School, an area known for its prime real estate. The building spanned three stories, with over 500 square meters of floor space—a true gem.
Knowing the immense value of commercial properties near Chunfeng Middle School, Su Bai resolved to keep it rather than sell. The timing couldn’t have been better.
He had already planned to use his 6 million yuan in liquid assets to help Song Qian open a tutoring centre, a thriving business in the current educational landscape. While future policy changes might bring challenges, that was a problem for another day.
With this property, Su Bai now had the perfect foundation for his plan.
“Awake?”
As Su Bai exited the system interface, Tong Wenjie’s voice brought him back to reality.
Glancing at his sharp features, she felt a wave of complicated emotions. Her impulsiveness the previous night was undeniable, but she had no regrets.
Still, a shadow of guilt crossed her heart. As long as Fang Yuan never finds out, everything will be fine; she reassured herself.
With that, Tong Wenjie sat up and began dressing.
Su Bai climbed out of bed without a word.
“Su Bai, I need you to keep last night’s events a secret,” Tong Wenjie said, forcing calm into her tone. “If this gets out, it’ll be bad for both of us.”
“Relax. I’m not foolish enough to spread such news. I don’t need unnecessary trouble,” Su Bai replied, his experience with such situations evident in his measured tone.
“What are your plans now?” he asked.
“After last night, it’s clear you can’t return to Roland PR. Frankly, I’m not even sure the company will survive.”
His gaze was steady as he spoke. Tong Wenjie’s career at Roland PR was over, and finding a new job wouldn’t be easy, especially given her age and responsibilities.
Tong Wenjie sighed deeply. “I’ll have to look for new work. Going back isn’t an option.”
Her family’s financial situation was modest, and now, with unemployment looming, the future felt uncertain.
At her age, competing with younger, more attractive candidates was a daunting prospect. She also had two high school seniors to support, and the costs of their education were mounting.
“I have an idea. Would you like to hear it?” Su Bai asked.
Tong Wenjie looked at him, aware of his financial resources.
Although she hated the idea of accepting charity, but had a choice. Even if Su Bai used last night’s events as leverage, she felt she hadn’t lost entirely.
Blushing slightly at the thought, she replied, “What’s your idea? But let me make one thing clear—I’m not selling myself.”
“Then what was last night?” Su Bai quipped, raising an eyebrow.
“I… I was just…” Tong Wenjie faltered, unable to form a coherent response.
Su Bai decided to get serious. “I’ve been considering starting a business. It’s simple: Song Qian could open a tutoring centre.”
“With education booming, there’s plenty of demand. I already have the property sorted.”
“Since you’re leaving Roland PR, why not help manage the centre’s finances? I’ll match your current salary and even offer you equity.”@@novelbin@@
Tong Wenjie hesitated. Su Bai’s proposal was undeniably tempting.
Though Song Qian lacked direct experience in the tutoring industry, her reputation as an educator and connections could easily attract students. With Su Bai’s investment, the venture had every chance of thriving.
Even in the unlikely event of failure, Su Bai’s promise of matching her salary and providing shares ensured she wouldn’t lose out.
And with her involvement, Fang Yifan and Lin Lei’er could also benefit from the centre.
“What does Song Qian think?” she asked, quickly identifying a potential flaw in the plan.
Tong Wenjie knew Song Qian was wholly focused on Qiao Yingzi’s education. Asking her to run a tutoring centre during Yingzi’s crucial senior year seemed implausible.
“Don’t worry, I’ll handle her,” Su Bai assured her confidently.
Satisfied with the discussion, Su Bai began to gather his things. He had no intention of returning home with Tong Wenjie that morning—it would only complicate matters further.
“You should head back on your own. I need to deal with the Roland PR investment,” Su Bai said, preparing to leave.
What do you think?
