Chapter 31: Hug: It’s too late, I’ll take you home (2 updates) Chapter 31: Hug: It’s too late, I’ll take you home (2 updates) William had an excellent memory, and he immediately recalled that this was the most famous nightclub in Greenland!
Zoe would never go there on her own.
Wyatt!
Zac Cruz stood by, watching his boss’s face turn increasingly livid. He took a deep breath:
Young Master Wyatt, take care!
——
Inside Nightless, in the dance floor, men and women held each other close as the music thumped. Wyatt couldn’t help but sneeze.
“Sis, I think there’s too much negative energy here. I keep sneezing.”
“That’s because the air conditioning is too strong.”
“No, my intuition tells me this place’s vibe doesn’t suit me.”
Wyatt believed that if something blocked your way or your car broke down when you went out, it was heaven’s way of telling you it wasn’t a good day to go out.
But it was rare for him to let loose, so he naturally refused to leave.
Zoe got a headache from the noise, but luckily they entered a private room, and once the door closed, they were isolated from the external chaos.
“Did your brother allow you to come?”
“If you don’t tell and I don’t tell, he won’t know. We’ll just go home early.”
If anything happened, they’d just hide behind their sister-in-law.
With a sister-in-law at home, there was nothing to worry about!
“Sis, have you been here before?” Wyatt was curious.
Zoe shook her head. She had a bit of a talent for dancing, but that also came with a lot of hard work. She didn’t have the time to hang out, and the Bell Family limited her spending, so she couldn’t afford to come here.
“Then let’s broaden our horizons together, just consider it as relaxing. Life is about learning to enjoy.”
Wyatt ordered drinks. The multicolored cocktails laid out before them were dazzling to the eyes.
“Do you come to places like this often?” Zoe looked at Wyatt.
“I’ve been here a few times with my other brothers.” He said this while handing Zoe a mocktail. “I specifically asked for a non-alcoholic version for you, give it a try.”
Bringing his sister-in-law to drink?
Wyatt didn’t have the guts!
“Are you drinking alcohol?” Zoe frowned.
“After I became an adult, my brothers said I’d grown up and took me out to see the world. That night, I got so drunk my brother had to pick me up, and I threw up all over him.”
Zoe laughed lowly. “Did he get mad?”
“Of course he got mad, but he was worried that if I went home drunk and caused a scene, it would disturb our parents, so he took me to his own place.”
“My brother may look severe, but he’s actually a very good person.”
“Mr. Hale is a good person.” Zoe agreed. “You seem very afraid of your brother.”
“Of course, he’s ten years older than me, and he excelled in his studies. By the time I was in elementary school, he had already been admitted to college. So every time there was a parent-teacher conference, he would go.”
“Why did he go?”
“My parents didn’t want to go, afraid it would be embarrassing.”
“…”
“One time, he was writing a paper, and I was flipping through his college books next to him. My dad told me not to mess with his things. Do you know what my brother said?”
“What?”
“He told my dad not to worry about me, to let me flip through them. I was really touched at the time, but then…” Wyatt drank heartily from his glass. “He said my intelligence probably wouldn’t get me into college, so letting me touch college textbooks would at least give me some insight.”
“Pfft—” Zoe couldn’t hold back her laughter.
William’s sharp tongue made an impression the first time he critiqued Kevin and Mina for lacking manners.
“After that, I was determined to succeed and finally got into college!”
“You’re awesome!” Zoe was very supportive.
Wyatt’s face was full of pride. “But when I was a freshman, I wanted to start a business with friends and was discouraged by my brother again.”
“What did he say?”
“He said he wasn’t afraid of me wasting time enjoying life, but he was worried about me having ambition to start a business, saying I would ruin our family.”
The more Wyatt talked, the more aggrieved he felt. He drank a bit more, his whole demeanor becoming dejected.
Zoe saw his distress and didn’t dare laugh too loudly. She reached out, patted his head, and casually picked up a drink from the table to clink glasses with him, comforting him not to be sad.
“Sis, pity me for having talent and skills but nowhere to use them.”
“Everyone has their own strengths. Maybe you don’t have the talent for business, but you’ll excel in other areas.” Zoe consoled him.
“I think I look pretty good. Can I try streaming?”
“…”
“Why aren’t you saying anything? Do you think I’m ugly?”
“That’s not what I mean.” Zoe hurried to comfort him. After a back and forth, Zoe unknowingly also drank some.
When William found them, his face was pitch black.
“Uh…” Wyatt heard the commotion, looked up towards the door. “Sis, look, someone’s here.”
Zoe tilted her slightly tipsy face and stared at William.
“He looks a bit like my brother.” Wyatt said this, and then just kept giggling foolishly.
“Wyatt!” William felt a headache coming.
His brother had gone crazy!
Oh crap, it actually was his brother!
His voice was frosty, extremely indifferent.
Especially his gaze, too sharp, like the biting cold wind of midwinter.
Dry, harsh, cutting like a knife.
It felt as if the oxygen in the room was instantly sucked out, making it hard to breathe. Zac and Kyle standing by the door didn’t dare to enter.
William stepped up to Zoe.
She was fair and beautiful, with delicate eyebrows and almond-shaped eyes that made her naturally charming. Her face was flushed at this moment, making her even more alluring.
“Have you been drinking?”
“A bit.”
She had drunk quite a bit, listening to Wyatt’s complaints, which inevitably reminded her of her time with the Bell Family.
Even though she had mentally prepared, being scolded by Kevin left her uncomfortable.
Drinking made it worse.
“Mr. Hale…” Zoe’s throat was tight and hot. “Weren’t you working? Why are you here?”
William cast a glance at his brother, then knelt down, half-sitting in front of Zoe, meeting her gaze as he took the cup from her hand and placed it on the table. “It’s late. I came to take you home.”
Zoe’s heart suddenly pounded hard,
his eyes were too gentle.
Even his voice was so tender and soothing. Compared to Kevin’s furious outbursts, it made her nose sting inexplicably. Tipsy from the alcohol, she suddenly lowered her head—
The next second,
her head was resting on William’s shoulder.
“Mr. Hale…” Her voice was a bit hoarse, her breath heated from the alcohol, falling on his earlobe and neck.
“Hmm?”
“Can I… hug you?”
William smiled. “Sure.”
Zoe reached out, wrapped her arms around his neck, and buried her head in his chest, part of her face pressed against his neck.
Heat transferring…
Soft, warm.
William felt a tightness and dryness in his throat.
“Let’s go home.” Her voice, close to his ear, sent ticklish sensations to his heart.
Zoe was not that drunk. As she was about to release her arms from around his neck, William suddenly reached out. One arm slid under her knees, and the other wrapped around her waist.
He lifted her off the sofa.
Zoe instinctively held her breath, the alcohol heating her skin even more.
“Mr. Hale, you’re a good person.”
William chuckled. This good person, right now, was thinking all sorts of bad thoughts…
What do you think?
