Mummy Evolution

Chapter 32 32: Lord Burrhen (2/2)

"So indeed, these people do have connections to nobility." Burrhen nodded, his gaze now focused on Zainah. She was rather beautiful, he noticed. In fact, she was more beautiful than any of the noble heirs he had seen in the city.

"Since she is a noble, we can negotiate with her. As long as they are willing to not involve themselves in our plans, we do not need to make enemies of them."

If Sett and his party were willing to keep it secret, that was enough. Commoners might be unwilling to keep such a tremendous thing a secret, but nobles wouldn't be so hard to keep in check.

At least, they could threaten the noble houses using the Pharaoh's name!

If the commoners of the world learned of the Pharaoh's great goal through Burrhen, he could forget his head. So he had to be careful with the whole thing.

But if other nobles were the cause of it, Burrhen would just have to explain himself.

Burrhen didn't want to accept it, but Sett seemed like a smart man with a mysterious background.

Such a strategic mind was not born without any experience in politics and scheming against others, so he must be an important person.

Why would Burrhen make unnecessary enemies if he didn't have to?

Shining Black sneered. "That man, at least, is not a noble. He is a mummy—not even human."

That made both Shining White and Burrhen frown with confusion.

"A mummy?" Shining White asked. "But how is that possible? In all of the hundreds of years till now, Tombs have never let the mummies out!"

"At least, if he is not a mummy, he doesn't have any heart beat." Shining Black was certain of that. "He felt generally like a mummy too." He paused. "It's my gut feeling."

Burrhen shook his head. "He probably is not a mummy, he might have an Axiom that makes his physicality similar to one. So anyway, what is their stand on the matter?"

That made more sense than a mummy walking among the living.

Shining Black sneered, looking towards Sett with bloodlust.

Golden eyes glinted in the sunlight and Sett turned back to stare right towards them, smirking as if he had discovered them. Shining Black took a step back in surprise.

Burrhen frowned.

In the distance, Sett changed the direction he was looking at. Turning towards all the different directions one by one and staring coldly as if he could see someone standing there. He even glared with an angry face.

What are you scheming there bastardssss!

White, on the other hand, bowed and spoke, "Mummy or not, nobility or not, his stance is clear. He said to Black:'Go back to whence you came from and tell your masters that I will keep it all a secret for you. Do not come at me again.'"

Burrhen took a deep breath. "Frightening foresight," he said. "Then why did you send Black to fight them anyway?"

Shining White must have already determined that the party was not an enemy to be crossed lightly. That was why he didn't hunt them at first, after all.

Then why did he send Black to fight them?

Shining White stood ramrod straight, looking in Sett's direction. "Because I was a bit curious how a woman who stole vases could have her life changed this quickly. I was also curious if they could survive a Tier 2 Tomb Raider's assault."

He had thought that such a thing would make Zainah reveal what her Axiom truly was, but turns out Sett hadn't even allowed that to be revealed.

White finally added, "I planned to save them if they couldn't handle Black, but it turns out that it was not necessary."

Sett, huh? He thought.

Shining Black exploded in rage. "You were using me to test the waters!?"

Burrhen spread out his dark wings. "Stop. Let's go have a talk with this Zainah and Sett. I don't want other noble families running amok in my territory without my knowledge."

He flew towards the crowd and landed in their midst, looking at Sett. Sett was seated grandly on a sofa, shaded from the sun by a small jutting roof. He had Zarah, the little Tomb Raider Girl, sitting in his lap—eating grapes hanging from his hand.

Zainah stood to his side, leaning on the wall of a sandstone building and looking nervous.

A small crowd surrounded the man, listening to a story he was telling with great interest.

Storytellers were rare and good story tellers even rarer. People loved to hear good stories.

Burrhen listened as he walked closer.

It was the story of an ancient warrior who…

Burrhen had expected to hear about some legendary conqueror, a ruler of grand battles and towering monuments.

But no. He was wrong.

That was too boring for Sett.

It was the story of a warrior who inserted his sword in sheaths.

Zainah blushed from the side, but noticing the winged Burrhen standing over Sett—her face paled.

Sett stood up, Zarah by his side.

His hand, which was supposed to be broken, had healed at some point.

"Lord Burrhen," he placed a hand over his heart. "I've been wanting to meet you."

"Do you want to talk here or can we go to some nicer place?" Burrhen asked.

Sett must be worried about him being killed if he dared to move out of the crowd. Since once he was outside the public view, he would not have anything to fight against Burrhen. But to Burrhen's surprise, Sett nodded.

"Let's go to somewhere private, this place is too noisy for business." But then, Sett added nonchalantly, "But of course, I've already made paid some people to spread some interesting news if me and my girls don't come out unscathed."

Burrhen was speechless.

They had been played again.

Now, Sett had the full leverage over them and they could not hurt him at all!

Sett smiled, showing the way towards a restaurant close by.

He knew the place had good service.
