Chapter 180 Azure and Prism Vs The Yeti

Azure and Prism Vs The Yeti

"Haa~ Haa~. Okay... I'm at my limit." Christopher wheezed as he struggled to stay on his feet. Even for him, the gravity was simply unbearable.

He was drenched in sweat... well, he would be, but his clothes constantly cleaned him the moment the sweat left his pores, so he was still clean despite being pushed to the limit.

He didn't even try to straighten as his muscles screamed at him. He couldn't take another step, let alone stand straight.

Still, he was satisfied.

'Just managed to cross the 1,000-mile mark. Phew.' He tried to wipe his brow of sweat, but his mask was in the way, and it had already removed the sweat, so it was a pointless venture.

After catching his breath, Christopher got ready to teleport, but then he paused.

'Oh?' He squinted his eyes as he looked forward. A few feet away, he noticed an almost invisible demarcation in the snow. He quickly recognized what it was, and his eyes lit up.

'Oh wow, I reached the end.' The realization surprised and elated him.

'Hm, but there's the gravity.' He tilted his head and immediately regretted it. The force made him feel like someone was trying to rip his head off his body.

'It's right there. Just a few more steps. I can reach that, right?' He was tempted to try, but he feared that he wouldn't be able to handle it. The strain he was experiencing right now was simply immense.

However, it didn't take him long to make a decision.

'Screw it, I haven't taken any damage so far anyway. I'll survive.' With that, he forced his leg to move and took another step.

When he did, he gritted his teeth as the immense gravity doubled and his back hunched over even more. However, he wasn't going to give up so easily.

With a grunt, he took another step, and another, and another.

'I'm... right... THERE!' He roared in his mind as he took the final step and crossed the almost invisible line.

The moment he did, the gravity vanished, and his body went limp. He collapsed and rolled on his back, his breaths coming out in strained wheezes, his body hurt.

However, he felt a deep sense of satisfaction. How long had it been since he strained himself like this?

He lay there and waited for his body to recover, which didn't take that long. Whatever strain he had was healed in less than a minute.

"Phew~." He stood up and stretched, a series of satisfying pops leaving his body. When he finished, he placed his hands on his hips and looked up, feeling proud.

'That went well if I do say so myself.' He thought. Then he paused and looked to the side.

There was a blue crystal floating there was an interesting Aura.

'That feels familiar.' Christopher noted as he approached the crystal and studied it. He tried to recall where he had felt that Aura and quickly concluded.

With a thought, he summoned his latest Subordinate, Azure.

"Master." She immediately got on one knee, her face hidden behind her helmet.

Christopher gave her a nod of acknowledgment and spoke.

"Rise." When she did so, he gestured to the crystal.

"Does this mean anything to you?" Hearing this, Azure turned to the crystal, and when she did, Christopher noticed a certain emotion flash through her eyes, but he couldn't pinpoint what.

"This is... a fragment of mine." The words surprised Christopher.

"A fragment?" I echoed and Azure nodded.

"When my former lord died, I was automatically made the head of my brethren to rule over this place and its inhabitants. But with how large it was, it was difficult for all of us to manage everything. One of the solutions I came up with was to create lesser versions of myself and send them out to control certain regions of the realm. However, that caused my power to regress at a swifter rate as they weren't just clones, but extensions of myself. I thought they had been destroyed, but it seems like they became treasures just like my brethren." Her voice was cold as ever, but Christopher could sense the vague wistfulness in her voice.

"Do you want it?" Christopher asked and Azure said nothing. Instead, she stepped forward and grabbed the crystal, and without hesitation, she broke it.

Immediately she did, it turned into a cloud of dust that flowed into her body, and when it did, Christopher's eyes widened slightly.

It was difficult to explain, but now that he looked at her, he realized that she felt more... complete, somehow.

Her Aura didn't change, but Christopher felt like she'd gotten stronger. It was a strange thing indeed.

Satisfied, he was about to send her back, but then he paused.

'She's meant to be my 'shield', yet she hasn't done anything. The same thing applies to Prism, she's my 'hidden blade', yet I haven't made her do anything deserving of that role.' With that in mind, he decided to keep Azure with him, Prism had been following him through the reflection, so he knew she was there already.

"Let's go." He said calmly and started walking, Azure following suit.

Soon, they reached another expansive barrier like the last one. However, before Christopher could destroy it, Azure simply walked forward and calmly put her gauntlet-covered hand on its surface. When she did, the barrier rippled, and then a small opening appeared for them to pass through.

'Handy.' Christopher noted as they stepped through the opening.

The barrier closed behind them, and they paid attention to this new area.

It was large, but noticeably smaller than the white plain Christopher had crossed previously. Moreover, there was no clear indicator of what the challenge would be as the place was empty.

However, that didn't last very long.

As soon as the barrier closed behind them, a low rumble sounded and the place shook slightly.

'Hm.' Christopher narrowed his eyes slightly as he stared at the center of this new zone.

A moment later, a fur-covered arm burst from the ground and grabbed the thick ice. With a low growl, something pulled itself out of the ground, and Christopher recognized it almost immediately.

"Ah, shit. It's a Yeti!" He exclaimed, more in surprise than wariness.

As soon as it pulled itself out of the ground, it looked up and let out an earth-shattering road and blew ice and snow in every direction.

'Peak Apex rank. Interesting.' Christopher noted as the Yeti ended its roar and looked down at them. The thing was about ten meters tall.

Christopher thought about fighting, but he remembered his thoughts from not long ago and said lightly.

"Azure, Prism, you two handle this one." As he said that, the yeti growled and frigid air left its nose as it stared down at Christopher and Azure.

It took a few steps before breaking into a run, its body blurring as it moved at a speed that didn't match its size.

It reached Christopher and Azure in an instant, and due to Christopher's mask, it judged him to be the weaker one as it couldn't sense his Aura, so it ignored Azure and went straight for Christopher.

Its arm bulged as its muscles tensed and rippled beneath its white fur.

With a powerful roar, it clenched its fist and threw a devastating punch at Christopher, the force causing the ground beneath them to shatter.

However, before its fist could land, an Azure shield appeared in its path and blocked the attack.

Surprisingly, there was no impact or shockwave to indicate that such a powerful attack was incoming. Instead, it was as though all the force was dissipated the moment it hit the shield.

Azure who had blocked the attack looked at the Yeti calmly, her cold eyes meeting its enraged ones.

The Yeti roared and brought its other fist down as well, but the result was the same as the force was dissipated on impact.

Enraged, it unleashed a flurry of blows that should have caused irreparable damage to the surrounding area. But instead, they hit the shield and did nothing.

That wasn't to say the Yeti was just blindly smacking the shield, it was trying to punch past it to hit Azure or any possible weak point, yet Azure was as steadfast as a mountain in a storm. Besides moving from side to side ever so slightly to block certain attacks, she hadn't retreated nor had she advanced, just calmly enduring the attacks.

'Interesting.' Christopher tried (and failed) to rub his chin when he saw this scene. Not just because of how well Azure was handling the Yeti, but because of what she was doing to the force she unleashed.

It was difficult to spot, but Azuere was gradually absorbing the force the Yeti unleashed and storing it somewhere.

'Definitely an application of her force attribute.' Christopher noted as he continued to watch, completely unperturbed by the massive Yeti.

Eventually, Azure decided that she had done enough. Suddenly, just as the Yeti was preparing to unleash another barrage of punches, she took a step forward and thrust her shield forward.

All the force accumulated from the Yeti's onslaught was unleashed in an instant and the Yeti as well as the ground and everything in that general direction was blown away.
