My Baby Daddy Isn’t Human

Chapter 13 13: The Serious Talk

Raelynn pushed the heavy door open, the sound of its hinges creaking softly as it swung open. She stepped inside, her breath catching at the sight of the room before her.

It was grander than she could have imagined, a perfect picture of wealth and sophistication. The room was massive, with high ceilings that made her feel tiny, almost unimportant. To her left, a plush gray couch lay across the sleek marble floor, topped with soft cream pillows. A low, glass coffee table sat in front of it, its surface catching the light from the chandelier overhead. In the corner of the room was a small but elegant bar, its dark wood counter lined with crystal decanters filled with amber and clear liquids.

What drew her attention most, however, was the floor-to-ceiling window that took up an entire wall, its glass panes revealing the sprawling, beautiful gardens outside. Elion was standing by the window, soaking in the sunlight.

Raelynn froze for a moment, her hand still resting on the door. Elion stood with his back to her, his tall frame perfectly still as if he were deep in thought. The sharp lines of his tailored suit made him look every bit the powerful, untouchable man she knew him to be.

She stepped inside, letting the door close softly behind her. The sound made Elion turn, his movements calm and controlled. His piercing gaze locked onto her, and she stopped in her tracks, unable to take another step.

"Oh," Elion said, his voice breaking the silence. "You're here already."

He didn't smile, but there was a faint curve to his lips that might have been amusement. He turned away from her and walked to the mini bar in the corner of the room. Raelynn stayed rooted to her spot, her fingers gripping the strap of her bag tightly.

Elion poured a drink into a crystal glass, the faint clink of liquid against glass breaking the heavy silence. He didn't seem hurried, taking his time as if he were in no rush to address her presence.

Raelynn glanced around the room, suddenly feeling out of place. Everything here screamed luxury, from the marble floors to the tasteful art on the walls. Her own worn-out jeans and simple sweater felt glaringly out of place. But it wasn't just the room—it was him. His aura, the way he carried himself, the way even the silence around him seemed heavy with importance. It all made her feel small.

She swallowed hard, her voice hesitant as she spoke. "Should I… sit down or—"

Elion interrupted her without looking up. "Will you stand there forever?" he asked, his tone light but laced with command. He turned and carried his drink to the couch, settling into it with a casual grace. He leaned back, resting one arm on the backrest, and gestured to the seat opposite him. "You'd better sit. We have a lot to talk about."

Raelynn nodded quickly, moving to the couch opposite him. She sat stiffly on the edge, her back straight, and her hands clasped nervously in her lap. The glass table between them felt like an invisible barrier, but it did little to ease her discomfort.

Elion raised his glass slightly toward her. "Care for a drink?" he asked, his tone casual.

She shook her head quickly, her voice soft but firm. "No, thank you. I… I can't drink that."

A small, bitter thought flashed in her mind. Drinking is what got me into this mess in the first place.

Elion's eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at her, then at his glass. A faint smirk tugged at his lips. "You can't possibly think I'd offer you alcohol," he said, his tone holding a hint of amusement. "Not when you're pregnant. I'm not about to harm our baby."

Raelynn blinked, momentarily caught off guard by his words. She raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms over her chest. "Oh, so you're acknowledging it's your baby now?"

Elion didn't flinch at her challenge. Instead, he raised his glass to his lips, taking a slow sip before responding. "What can I say?" he said, sounding relaxed. "The DNA test doesn't lie."

Raelynn's jaw tightened, and she leaned forward slightly. "Alright then," she said, her voice firm. "Let me make one thing very clear. I won't—ever—have an abortion. If that's what you're thinking, forget it."

Elion set his glass down on the table, a little harder than necessary. The sound made her flinch, but his gaze held hers steadily. "Why the hell would you think I'd suggest that?" he snapped, his tone sharp.

Raelynn hesitated, her fingers twisting together in her lap. "Well, can you blame me?" she asked, her voice softer now. "After the way you reacted when I told you I was pregnant? I thought you hated the idea of having a baby. That you didn't want… the responsibility."

Elion's jaw tightened, and for a moment, she thought he might snap at her. But then he exhaled, running a hand through his hair in a rare show of frustration. "I won't ask you to do that," he said finally.

Raelynn let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. She nodded, her posture relaxing slightly. "Okay," she said. "So… what now? What are we going to do about this whole situation?"

She started to ramble, her words spilling out in a rush. "I mean, we could figure out some kind of custody arrangement. I could use the money you gave me to get by until I find a job to support myself and the baby. We don't have to—"

"Stop," Elion said, cutting her off.

She blinked, startled, as he leaned forward slightly, his elbows resting on his knees. His gaze was intense, pinning her in place.

"You'll live with me," he said, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Raelynn stared at him, her mouth opening and closing as she tried to process his words. "What?" she finally managed to say.

"You'll live with me," Elion repeated, his voice steady. "From now on."

And just like that, Raelynn's world shifted once again.
