Chapter 137 137: All Clear
The morning passed without much fuss though an except for the slight tension caused by the injured man who currently sat on the couch with an almost smug expression.
Elion leaned back against the plush cushions, his injured hand resting on his lap, the bandages wrapped around his palm neatly secured thanks to Raelynn's careful tending earlier. Beside him, Raelynn sat with her arms crossed, her expression a mixture of concern and irritation. Across from them, Kade was sprawled in a chair, his dark brows raised as he studied Elion with an amused smirk.
"I still can't believe it," Kade drawled, shaking his head in mock disbelief. "The great Elion Vaelorian, actually hurt? The world must be ending."
Elion let out a small sigh, lifting his good hand to massage his temple. "It's not that serious," he muttered lazily.
Raelynn, however, wasn't having it. Her head snapped toward him, her brows furrowing deeply. "Not serious?" she shot back. "You were literally bleeding last night! A lot! Do you even know how much blood you lost?"
Sloane, who had been sitting on the armrest of another chair, let out a low whistle, her bright eyes dancing with amusement. "Oh, this is fun," she remarked. "Raelynn, don't tell me you were up all night worrying about him?"
Raelynn stiffened slightly, a faint warmth creeping up her neck. "I—I was just making sure he didn't collapse or something," she muttered, looking away. "That's all."
Always the composed one, Hera stood a few steps away, absorbing every word. Taking a slow sip from her porcelain cup, Sloane glanced at Elion, then Raelynn. "It's rare to see someone worry over Elion this much," she said softly, setting her cup down with a quiet clink. "It's… refreshing."
She didn't bother reacting to the teasing, her focus locked on Kade so intently that he arched a brow. "Raelynn, do you have something to say?"
She shot Elion a quick glance before asking Kade, "Is it possible for Elion to take a few days off?"
Kade laughed lightly, rubbing his jaw. When he didn't respond, Raelynn sighed. "Can he take a break? He's injured, Kade."
Kade scoffed, waving a hand dismissively. "I've seen Elion walk into meetings looking worse than this. A little scratch isn't going to stop him."
Raelynn's mouth fell open slightly, as if she couldn't believe what she was hearing. "A scratch?!" she repeated, outraged. "He literally blocked a knife with his bare hand!"
He glanced at her, the corners of his lips twitching slightly. "Didn't know you cared this much, Raelynn."
Raelynn's breath hitched for a second before she quickly recovered. "I just think you should rest," she muttered, shifting her focus elsewhere.
Sloane grinned, resting her chin on her hand. "Oh, this is too good. I should be taking notes."
Kade smirked at Elion. "I didn't know you had someone fussing over you like this. Should we start hiring Raelynn as your personal nurse?"
Elion tilted his head in thought before letting out a dramatic sigh. "Actually, I think that's a good idea." He shifted slightly, feigning discomfort. "I don't think I can work with my hand like this. Maybe I should rest after all."
Kade groaned. "Unbelievable."
Elion then turned to Raelynn again, looking at her expectantly. "Since you're so worried, will you escort me to my bedroom?"
Raelynn blinked. "What?"
Elion tilted his head. "I might need help getting there," he added, as if it was the most reasonable thing in the world.
Raelynn hesitated, her lips pressing into a thin line. "You're perfectly capable of walking there yourself," she pointed out.
Elion sighed, placing a hand over his chest as if deeply wounded. "Ah, but my hand… it might throw off my balance."
Kade groaned again. "Elion, you're such a pain."
Sloane, meanwhile, looked absolutely delighted. "Come on, Raelynn," she urged. "Help the poor man."
A sharp breath left her lips as she tried to stay calm. "Fine," she muttered, pushing herself up to stand.
Sloane gasped dramatically. "Oh my god, she actually agreed!"
Raelynn shot her a glare, but the woman only grinned wider. Meanwhile, Kade shook his head in amusement while Hera remained as calm as ever, though a small knowing smile played on her lips.
Elion stood up, moving slower than usual—perhaps genuinely because of the injury or, more likely, to prolong the moment. Raelynn walked beside him, watching him carefully. It wasn't that she thought he would actually fall, but the way he had been injured last night still lingered in her mind. She hated the thought of him being reckless again.
Before she could dwell on it too much, the two disappeared down the hallway, leaving the others behind.
Once they were gone, Hera stood as well. "I should check on some matters," she said simply, excusing herself.
That left Kade and Sloane alone in the living room. A silence settled between them before Kade exhaled and leaned back. "Well, that was interesting."
Sloane smirked, twirling a lock of her hair around her finger. "You see it too, don't you?"
Kade arched a brow. "See what?"
Sloane's grin widened. "Your boss is falling for that woman."
Kade let out a low chuckle, shaking his head. "I don't know about that. Elion isn't exactly the type to fall for someone so easily."
Sloane leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees. "Mmm, maybe. But he's already letting her in more than he usually does." She tapped a finger against her chin. "Seems like I'll be winning that bet, after all."
Kade narrowed his eyes slightly. "Don't get ahead of yourself. It's not over yet."
Sloane merely shrugged, her smirk never fading. "We'll see."
The room fell into silence, but something in the air still crackled between them. The game had begun, and the pieces were lining up. And while Elion and Raelynn remained oblivious to the discussion happening in the living room, one thing was becoming increasingly clear to those watching from the sidelines.
Elion Vaelorian was falling for Raelynn, whether he realized it or not.
What do you think?
