Chapter 827: Chapter 827: Rong Yan’s New Song Was Stolen
After a sound sleep filled with pleasant dreams, Rong Yan awoke to find that Estelle’s relentless calls had rung seven or eight times already.
Groggily rubbing her messy hair and grabbing her phone, Rong Yan sat up in bed and brought the phone to her ear, “Hello, Estelle.”
“You’re still not up?” Hearing her muzzy, hoarse voice, Estelle guessed she was still in bed.
As Rong Yan sat up, her arm skin brushed against the early morning air, giving her goosebumps, and she became a tad more alert. Supporting her forehead, she switched on the light to check the time on her phone.
Damn, it’s already 10 a.m.!
She had overslept!
...
Rong Yan swiftly became more awake, “I’m getting up right now.”
She remembered there was a photoshoot for a magazine layout today and wondered if she would be late starting now.
“Estelle, have you already reached downstairs?” she said while setting her phone on speaker and placing it to the side to start getting dressed.
The aches in her wrist reminded her of the events from late last night.
Regretfully, Rong Yan had no time to savor her shyness; she had to force herself to ignore the discomfort in her wrist and speed up.
On the other end of the phone, Estelle responded, “No, I’m still at the company. Rong Yan, did you take your new song compositions with you when you left the company yesterday?”
Rong Yan, who was already dressed and ready to wash up, spoke through a mouthful of toothpaste with her phone in one hand, propping it on a dry spot on the counter, “No, I didn’t. Just like always, I locked them in your office drawer before I left. What’s wrong?”
“The company was burglarized yesterday,” Estelle said with a serious and anxious tone, “A lot of things were stolen, and my office was hit too. The drawers and the safe were pried open, and everything inside is gone, including the scores and CDs you stored there,”
All of which contained the data for the new songs Rong Yan had planned to release for the final competition.
Rong Yan spit out the toothpaste foam and her beautiful face took on a layer of solemnity. She wasn’t as flustered as Estelle might have expected and asked steadily, “How could they disappear? Thieves shouldn’t find those items useful.”
Unless the thief happened to be musically inclined, why would any ordinary thief bother stealing scores and CDs? Such items, not readily convertible to cash, wouldn’t be of interest to a thief who would rather forget them than steal paper and discs.
What she thought of, Estelle had considered as well, “I had someone check the surveillance, and it turns out all the cameras in the company were hacked. Every department suffered losses to some extent. I mentioned your leather bag incident to security, and they theorized the thief might have taken it casually and possibly discarded it. They suggested we don’t panic and let them work with the police to investigate. Once the thief is caught, we can find out where they dumped the stuff.”
Rong Yan put away her toothbrush and cup, wiped her mouth with a towel, her almond eyes clearly beautiful, “Huh, I doubt the police will be able to catch this thief.”
Estelle, “What do you mean? Do you know who took the stuff?”
Picking up the phone, Rong Yan returned to the bedroom, speaking calmly, “I have a suspect in mind, but no evidence.”
“Who?”
“KT Entertainment has many more surveillance cameras than most companies, and the security measures are among the best in Capital City. If it were that easy for an outside thief to slip in, the paparazzi hungry for sensational stories would’ve broken in countless times over the years.”
What do you think?
