Chapter 117 Alchemy King

The Spirit Wraith easily defeated the Red Skeleton King. Moving beyond the Red Skeleton King's throne, Leon found a hidden pathway concealed beneath the throne itself. The passage opened to reveal a darkened corridor, leading to the chamber of the Alchemist King.

"Sir Theodore, it's us," Leon called out as the blackened corridor lit up, glowing with an eerie blue hue. "The ones you entrusted with the True Skeleton King quest."

"I hope there aren't any traps here," Leon muttered, motioning for Roselia and Roman to follow. He gestured for the Spirit Wraith to lead the way, its ethereal form gliding ahead.

"Why don't you use the Sage Eyes?" Roman asked, scanning the area. His senses picked up faint traces of danger, but he couldn't pinpoint the source.

Leon shook his head. "The traps here are way above my level. Even with Sage Eyes, I can't detect them all. It's safer to follow the rules of the house and proceed cautiously."

Roman nodded in understanding as they carefully navigated the corridor. Eventually, they entered the Alchemy Chamber. The room was sprawling, filled with high-grade alchemical equipment—beakers, arcane symbols etched into the walls, and glowing crystals embedded in the furniture.

"I envy him," Roselia murmured, her eyes widening at the state-of-the-art laboratory.

The figure of the Alchemist King, Theodore, appeared before them. He had the appearance of a middle-aged man, but his aura spoke of immeasurable age and wisdom.

"Welcome back," Theodore said, his voice calm but powerful. "As promised, should you complete the quest to retrieve the True Skeleton King's remains, I will grant you ownership of this chamber, this is actually come along with the first part of my Legacy."

Roman frowned slightly and muttered, "He seems... strange."

Theodore chuckled, his expression amused. "I am a homunculus, young man. That is why I appear strange to you."

Roman blinked in confusion. "Young? I'm nearly a million years old!"

"And yet, you are but a child in my eyes," Theodore replied with a smirk. "I have lived for hundreds of millions of years. Through alchemy, I have prolonged my life, though not without cost. My essence—my soul—is anchored to homunculi, ensuring my immortality."

Leon listened intently, intrigued by the sheer scale of Theodore's life and power.

Theodore continued, "Now, enough of my story. You are here to formally accept the quest to retrieve the True Skeleton King's bones, are you not?"

"That's exactly why we're here," Leon replied, stepping forward confidently.

Theodore nodded approvingly. "Splendid. Then let us proceed."

"Here is the map to his location. Good luck," Theodore said, handing over a worn, ancient map. His bony hand waved dismissively as he sent them out of his chamber. In a blink, they were standing just outside the entrance to the Red Skeleton King's dungeon.

Leon glanced at the map, tracing the path with his finger. "Hmm. Well, let's go," he said, his tone casual yet focused.

Roselia and Roman nodded in agreement, their expressions calm but determined. Without hesitation, the group mounted their rides, ready to embark on the next phase of their journey.

"The map shows that the closest city is the Central Imperial City," Roselia said, looking at the map.

Leon nodded. "Yep, so we're heading to the Imperial City now," he said, and the others agreed with him.

Despite its name, Imperial City is not home to the Imperial family or any royalty. Instead, it serves as the location where the stairs to the next floor are situated.

That makes it the "king" of all towns, cities, kingdoms, and whatnot—hence the name Imperial City. After returning to the Town of Beginnings, Leon and his party booked a teleportation ticket and, stepping through the portal, arrived at their destination.

"Imperial City," Leon mumbled, stepping out of the teleportation circle as he looked around. "It's quite big compared to the other places we've been."

Roman glanced around as well. "It's similar in size to the city I used to live in," he remarked.

"Well, that was in ancient times," Leon said with a smirk. "But for now, this is the largest city we've encountered here."

Roman nodded in agreement, taking in the bustling streets and towering structures surrounding them.

The Imperial City stretched before them like a living tapestry, its grandeur unlike anything they had seen before. Massive stone walls, etched with intricate carvings of mythical beasts and ancient symbols, surrounded the city, offering both protection and a glimpse into its storied past. The towering gates, reinforced with glimmering metal that seemed impervious to age, stood open to welcome travelers from all corners of the floor.

The streets were a blend of cobblestones and smooth pavements, bustling with activity. Merchants called out from their stalls, hawking everything from shimmering gemstones to rare magical artifacts. Street performers entertained the crowds, their talents ranging from acrobatics to elemental magic displays, drawing cheers and applause from onlookers.

Buildings of varying architectural styles lined the avenues. Some were constructed from polished marble, their surfaces gleaming in the sunlight, while others were rustic, built from sturdy wood and adorned with hanging flower pots. Towering spires loomed in the distance, their golden tips reaching towards the skies, marking the city's central district.

"This place is alive," Roselia remarked, her gaze sweeping across the lively scene. A group of children darted past them, laughing and playing as their parents haggled with a merchant nearby.

"It's more organized than I expected," Leon said, noting the distinct districts visible even from their vantage point. The market district bustled with trade, while quieter areas in the distance appeared to house inns and residential quarters. Beyond those, the central plaza stood proud, dominated by a massive fountain carved in the shape of a dragon coiled around a globe.

Roman studied the people around them. Adventurers of all shapes and sizes strode confidently through the streets, their weapons gleaming and armor well-maintained. "A lot of strong people here," he observed. "This city must draw in everyone aiming to climb higher."
