Chapter 269: Roselia challenge
As the air calmed and Aqua lay sprawled across the grass like a satisfied kitten, Roselia stepped into the clearing. Her crimson hair shimmered under the afternoon light, and her sharp gaze was focused entirely on Leon.
"You done babysitting?" she teased, arms crossed as her sleek combat coat fluttered in the breeze.
Leon raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable. "You jealous I didn't let you call out cheesy attack names?"
Roselia smirked. "No, I'm just wondering when you'll stop wasting time holding back." She stepped closer, the ground subtly cracking beneath her boot with each step. "Aqua's strong for her age. But I'm not a child. I want a real match."
Aqua, from the grass, waved weakly. "Don't die, Roselia…"
Leon exhaled slowly. "You sure?"
Roselia didn't hesitate. "I've been holding back against weaker enemies too long. I need to sharpen my edge again. You're the only one here that can push me past my limits."
A low hum of energy built around her—red and violet, swirling like dancing flames and shadows interwoven. Her presence surged, and her Mythic-Class aura wrapped the entire field in tension.
Leon closed his eyes for a moment. When he opened them again, they glowed faintly. Not with his full power, but enough to show he was taking her seriously.
"Alright," he said simply. "Come."
And Roselia didn't wait.
She shot forward with a burst of speed that cracked the earth behind her. Her first strike—a spinning, empowered kick laced with volatile mana—met Leon's open palm. The shockwave shook the clearing and scattered nearby birds into the sky.
Leon deflected it smoothly, countering with a flick of his fingers that sent her skidding back—only for her to rebound instantly, hands weaving signs.
"Ashen Fang: Ninefold Slash!" she roared, blades of crimson light forming in the air around her.
They descended in a flurry like a rain of steel and fury.
Leon dodged, his body dancing through the barrage like a whisper of wind. A single cut grazed his coat.
"Hm," he murmured, "Better than last time."
Roselia didn't let him talk long.
She was already behind him, her blade—formed from compressed bloodfire—swinging at his back with deadly precision. Leon vanished just as the blade reached him, reappearing midair as he looked down.
"Good control," he said aloud.
Roselia didn't respond. She leapt, chasing him into the air with her aura flaring behind her like wings. Their clash echoed across the field—strikes, dodges, parries. Fists against sword. Flame against void.
She pressed harder, channeling one of her trump cards.
"Red Lotus Requiem!"
A bloom of burning roses erupted around her, each petal a mini-explosion of high-density mana.
Even Leon had to raise a barrier to absorb the blast.
The battlefield scorched. Trees nearby bowed from the sheer pressure.
When the smoke cleared… Roselia stood, panting, eyes locked on the figure standing in the crater.
Leon. Still mostly untouched—but no longer completely still.
He looked at his hand, smoke trailing from his palm. "Now that almost made me try."
Roselia's mouth curved into a small smile. "Almost?"
Leon stepped forward, his tone suddenly cool and sharp.
"Now it's my turn."
He blurred—and reappeared right in front of her.
Roselia reacted instinctively, parrying his first blow, then the second—but the third? It broke through her guard.
She flew backward, slamming into the ground and carving a long trench through the earth.
Dust clouded the air.
Aqua sat up from the grass, eyes wide. "Ooooh, she flew far."
As the dust cleared, Roselia slowly pushed herself to her knees, coughing. "Tch… that's cheating… you weren't even using Voidbreaker."
Leon approached her, extending a hand.
"You're strong," he said softly. "And only getting stronger. But there's still a gap."
She grasped his hand and let him pull her up. "Yeah," she muttered. "But I'll close it. Soon."
Leon smiled. "I look forward to it."
"I want to fight too!" Millim suddenly said as she entered, her silver hair gleaming under the moonlight.
Leon turned to look at her, eyes narrowing slightly as he observed her. She was a far cry from the last time he'd seen her—not just in appearance, but in presence. Once an elegant and composed lady, she now radiated the energy of a playful yet unpredictable force of nature.
Still beautiful. Still dangerous.
"okay then" Leon replied.
Millim stretched her arms behind her head, bouncing slightly on the balls of her feet, her eyes practically glowing with anticipation.
"Fiiinallyyyy~!" she sang, skipping toward Leon and Roselia with a wide grin. "I've been waiting my turn this entire time!"
Roselia groaned, brushing dust from her shoulder. "You're seriously going next? After that?"
Millim winked. "What? You had fun, didn't you? Besides…" —she shot a mischievous glance at Leon— "I wanna see how much he holds back when it's me."
Leon sighed, though a faint smirk tugged at his lips. "You're always like this…"
Millim giggled, her energy starting to flare—wild, uncontained, like a storm compressed into a single heartbeat.
"C'mon, c'mon! Let's fight! I'm not holding back, so you better not either!"
Without another word, her aura exploded.
BOOM.
The shockwave from her release blew back the surrounding trees, kicking up a massive ring of dust.
She was already serious.
He didn't reply with words. He raised his right hand, void energy coiling around his fingers like ink in water, calm yet infinite.
Millim vanished—and appeared in front of him with a crashing punch.
BANG!
The ground cratered. Leon blocked it with his arm, skidding backward—his boots grinding through stone.
Millim didn't let up. "Bloody Meteor Barrage!"
She struck—punches faster than bullets, each laced with magic and raw strength. The battlefield became a blur of pink and black as Leon evaded, deflected, countered.
One hit landed—then another.
Leon grunted, flipping backward and landing gracefully.
She was stronger than before.
"Not bad," he said.
Millim grinned, her fists glowing brighter. "That's not even 30%! Want more?"
Leon didn't answer. He simply blurred forward—this time his turn to attack.
His palm slammed into her gut with focused precision, sending a ripple of void energy through her. The shockwave blasted her back—but she flipped mid-air, skidded to a stop, and wiped a bit of blood from her lip.
"Oooooo~ that was nice! Now we're talking!"
She stomped the ground and her aura tripled. Flames, shadows, lightning, even Bloody Around her—her power radiated in all directions.
Fist against void.
Every impact sent out explosions, tearing through the forest and splitting boulders. Aqua hid behind a rock, cheering loudly with popcorn in hand, while Roselia leaned against a tree, arms folded, watching intently.
Minutes passed. Then tens of minutes. The battle dragged on—not because it was slow, but because both fighters refused to go down.
Millim's body was scraped, bruised, but her grin never faded.
While not vene having a ounce of damage on his body maintained his smile as he fought her.
They both stood now, facing each other, panting—barely a dozen meters apart.
"...You're really fun," Millim said, breathless but exhilarated.
Leon nodded slowly. "You've gotten stronger. Enough to threaten most Mythic-rank elites."
She wiped sweat from her brow. "Then… are you gonna end it?"
He didn't reply. Instead—
He vanished.
Then reappeared behind her, tapping her on the back of the neck with a single finger.
Her body froze. A chill ran down her spine.
A single tap with his refined void energy—precise enough to disable without harming.
Millim stumbled slightly after the tap to her neck, but instead of conceding, her smile twisted… into something more dangerous.
She didn't fall.
Instead, she licked the drop of blood from her lip and chuckled.
"Ohhh~ Leon… Did you really think I was done?"
The air shifted.
Leon shrugged. "finally going to use your toys" he said as she nodded.
Millim's aura turned crimson. The atmosphere thickened with bloodlust. Her wounds sealed almost instantly, her skin glowing faintly with cursed vitality. Dark sigils formed in a circle behind her as she raised her hand.
"Come forth… my Knights."
From her blood pooled in the air, crimson figures began to form—each clad in ornate armor, wielding cursed weapons forged from blood and bone. One had a massive halberd wreathed in scarlet flame. Another, dual rapiers that flickered like lightning. A third, a giant claymore as wide as his body.
Five elite Blood Knights now stood behind her—silent, deadly, and unwavering.
"These are the best Blood Knights I have," she said proudly. "Created from the strongest boss monsters we've defeated."
Then she added with a smirk, "I'm pretty sure you'll kill them easily, but look, Leon—this is my power."
With a sharp gesture, she directed all five toward him. Each knight moved into position, encircling him with perfect coordination, blades drawn and auras flaring. Their approach was silent—but the pressure they exuded was crushing.
It was a perfectly synchronized assault.
Leon nodded, and for a split second, his eyes flashed with a golden glow.
Then he moved.
To an outside observer, it would look like time had shattered—Leon blurred forward in a burst of movement so fast it seemed the world itself had paused. The Blood Knights surrounding him were frozen mid-strike, their motions sluggish and distorted compared to his.
In one smooth motion, Leon drew his sword.
And then, he sheathed it.
Time resumed.
All five Blood Knights collapsed at once, each one decapitated in perfect silence.
What do you think?
