Chapter 89: Chapter 79 Innocence and Naivety Don’t Require IQ_2
Tsk tsk, indeed, a woman’s heart is the most poisonous of all.
Seeing him turn around, Su Nian thought he was about to leave.
It wasn’t until she followed him inside that she found the guy had taken off his coat and lay straight down on the sofa, casually asking, “It’s too late; you don’t mind if I sleep on the sofa, right?”
Even if Su Nian had objections, she couldn’t do anything about it. Seeing that he had been tired all day because of Su Zhen, she thought it was fair for him to sleep on the sofa and tacitly agreed.
She turned and went back to her own room.
Shen Hanxiu glanced at her as she went into her room and shut the door, leaving only the sliver of light spilling out from within the door in the deep night.
He rested his hands behind his head, looking at the pitch-black ceiling.
Just as he closed his eyes, he heard the door open again. He saw Su Nian come out with a quilt in her arms, which she tossed over him.
Shen Hanxiu looked at her. Although his face didn’t show obvious joy, his heart was already so warmed that it was a mess, watching her non-stopping back as she turned to leave; he softly wished her goodnight.
Su Nian paused her steps slightly but didn’t respond, and entered her own room, closing the door once more.
Su Zhen’s illness marked the end of Su Nian’s painful business trip.
Feeling pretty good about returning to the company the next day, Su Nian brought Wei Lan breakfast. After they finished eating in the cafeteria, they went up to the office together.
The flower sender came again.
“Sister Niannian! Is it that Liang Yizhou again? While you were away on your business trip, he was so good to the kids, I almost thought he was their biological dad.”
Su Nian smiled and replied, “I bet you can’t guess who sent the flowers.”
Wei Lan was puzzled: “Isn’t it Liang Yizhou? That day Qiuqiu said when she delivered the flowers, they were from Liang Yizhou.”
Liang Yizhou definitely wouldn’t send her flowers; it had never happened before.
Seeing Wei Lan’s confusion, Su Nian said, “The flowers were bought by Su Bao. Yanyan told me that day. It’s quite rare for kids to buy flowers for someone, and he sent one every day, so the shop staff had a deep impression of Su Bao.”
“Su Bao? Why would your son send you flowers?”
Su Nian gave her a meaningful smile that seemed to chide her for her silliness.
While walking out of the elevator, Wei Lan was piecing together the relationship, “Your son bought you flowers, but said they were from Liang Yizhou… Oh! Su Bao is trying to set you two up! Haha, Sister Niannian, your children are just too adorable!”
“You should have one soon too.”
“I wish I could, but nothing’s in the works yet!”
“Then be my children’s godmother. The only thing they’re good at is matchmaking.”
Thinking of matchmaking, Wei Lan’s mind inexplicably wandered to Yang Zichen.
These days, when she was at Su Nian’s place, Su Zhen seemed to have the intention of playing matchmaker.
When Wei Lan was playing with Su Zhen, Su Zhen insisted on pulling Yang Zichen along. Yang Zichen seemed a bit stiff and wasn’t skilled at dealing with children, always pushing his glasses up with a cough before gently steering Su Zhen away: “Sister Lanlan can play with you.”
Thinking back, it did somewhat feel like a family; Wei Lan’s face turned red at the thought.
Although Yang Zichen might not come from as illustrious a family as Shen Hanxiu, he was still a talented individual, with extraordinary looks – a handsome face and elegant demeanor. No doubt, many women would be attracted to him.
Wei Lan figured she just naturally liked handsome guys and didn’t think anything more of it, and it couldn’t possibly be anything more.
When leaving work at noon, Wei Lan said anxiously, “Sister Niannian, the internship assessment is tomorrow, and I’m really worried I won’t be able to go permanent!”
“Don’t worry, I think you’re performing well among the interns and even if you don’t make it this time, you’ll have other chances.”
Wei Lan glanced at Xue Qi, who was chatting animatedly with several male colleagues not far away and said: “Look at her flaunting herself. If both of us aren’t hired permanently, I’d feel a bit better. But if I failed and she succeeded, I really wouldn’t be able to swallow that!”
Su Nian looked at Xue Qi and smiled, saying: “Don’t worry, she won’t be going permanent.”
As a finance clerk, Xue Qi had committed a serious taboo! Even if Su Nian put personal vendettas aside, in fairness, she could not turn a blind eye to her actions.
“Not going permanent? Sister Niannian, how can you be so sure? She’s the department manager’s favorite!”
“You’ll find out tomorrow, let’s go to lunch now.”
During the afternoon shift, Wei Lan was asking Su Nian something she didn’t understand, when Xue Qi walked over and knocked on the table: “Lin Weilan, with such performance, you still want to go permanent? During the eight hours of work every day, you spend half the time chatting! And you, Su Nian, as a regular employee, should be working hard alongside the interns instead of giggling and fooling around with her! Does Sheng Han pay you to chat?”
Tomorrow she would be going permanent, and the manager had promised once she did, she would be promoted to team leader. She no longer needed to be afraid of Su Nian!
“Which ear of yours heard us chatting?”
“Forget it, Lanlan, you take this ledger. I’ll take this one, and I can teach you more on the weekend.” Xue Qi was on her way out, let her feel smug for a moment.
Initially, Su Nian still cared about their past friendship. Even though Xue Qi was with Li Zisheng, Su Nian never held a grudge against either of them. But Xue Qi’s actions became more ruthless each time, almost making Su Nian forget that they once were the best of friends who shared everything.
Seeing Su Nian afraid to speak up, Xue Qi thought she was really frightened, striding toward the department head’s office with high heels and a swaying slender waist.
“Hmph, Sister Niannian, just look at her! She hasn’t even settled the score yet for stealing your USB drive!”
Su Nian smiled, her fingers tapping on the keyboard as she said: “A gentleman’s revenge is not too late even after ten years.”
Wei Lan saw Su Nian’s confident air and asked with some worry, “Sister Niannian, do you really have a way to prevent her from becoming permanent?”
“Mhm.”
“It’s not… something illegal, is it?”
“Do I look like someone without brains to you? I have two children to raise; I wouldn’t ruin everything over such a trivial matter.”
Seeing Su Nian’s assured demeanor, Wei Lan’s curiosity about her method grew even more.
What do you think?
