Chapter 98: 098 gave you a bargain
 

In a high-end hospital room, Luo Xiyun lay reclined on the hospital bed, her chestnut-red hair naturally falling, setting off her pale complexion, making her appear especially frail.

A man in his forties, with a square face and meticulously combed hair, sat on the sofa beside the bed, his face stern.

On the other side, a young nurse was changing the IV bag for Luo Xiyun.

“All set, if you need anything, just press the button above.” The nurse advised before she left with her tray.

As soon as the door closed, the atmosphere in the room grew tense.

“Ridiculous.”

The middle-aged man slapped the armrest next to him, his voice not loud, but it conveyed a palpable fury, “If it hadn’t been for your secretary notifying me, I wouldn’t have known that my daughter had collapsed at home from overwork and was hospitalized.”

Luo Xiyun’s gaze dropped, silent.

Seeing her like this, the anger in the man’s eyes grew stronger as he barked, “What is Liu Kun there for, I appointed him to look after you, is this how he takes care of you?”

“It’s not his fault.”

Luo Xiyun couldn’t help but defend Liu Kun as she heard her father’s anger directed at him, her words short and breathless, “It’s, it’s my own business.”

The middle-aged man seemed to want to stand up, but restrained himself, his tone becoming gentler, “Look at yourself. It’s good that you want to prove yourself. But like this, if you ruin your health, even if you succeed with this project, in your current state, aren’t you just making a wedding dress for someone else?”

He saw that his daughter was silent again, unsure if she had taken his words to heart, and continued, “This month, you’re not allowed to go anywhere or make any contact with the company. You’ll stay here to recuperate and seriously consider what I’ve said.”

Luo Xiyun suddenly lifted her head, her face flushing with anger, and said, “What right do you have to restrict my freedom?”

“If you don’t listen to me, I’ll have Liu Kun leave the company.”

The middle-aged man spoke slowly, “I will support whatever you want to do. But if you continue to be careless with your health, I won’t just stand by and watch.”

After saying this, he stood up, “I won’t restrict your freedom. Once the doctor agrees you can be discharged, you can go home or hang out with friends. The only thing is, you can’t deal with company affairs or contact anyone from the company.”

At the door, he stopped and added, “Your mother wouldn’t want to see you like this either.”

The middle-aged man left the hospital, got into a car, took out his cellphone, and dialed a number, “Liu Kun, what exactly happened to my daughter?”

“I’m sorry, Mr. Luo, it was my negligence, I didn’t take proper care of her.”

“I know my daughter’s personality very well. Although she’s determined, she wouldn’t neglect her health for work. There must be other reasons. I want you to investigate if it has anything to do with Zhou Hao. Also, see if she’s been close to any men recently.”

“I understand, Mr. Luo. I will get you an answer as soon as possible.”

“I’ll wait for your news.”

He hung up after finishing his call, leaned his head on the headrest, and closed his eyes to rest.

Half an hour later, his phone rang. It was Liu Kun.

“Mr. Luo, I’ve asked my sister. Xiyun only had dinner with Zhou Hao twice a month ago and rejected him. Since then, they haven’t seen each other. Also, she hasn’t been involved with any other men. Secretary Guo and I have confirmed this.”

His brow furrowed, “Is there nothing else unusual besides that?”

“One thing, when she rejected Zhou Hao, she mentioned she liked someone else already. She never let on who it might be, so I don’t know if that’s just an excuse. Plus, my sister mentioned, there was a period when she had some strange dreams.”

“Strange dreams?”

“She never described the dreams. Perhaps, it’s from too much mental stress.”

“I know.”

He hung up the phone, and as he looked out the window at the scenery, he fell into deep thought.

Night fell.

Chen Xu returned to his rented place, greeted Chen Ziqi, and then went to the kitchen to cook.

“What’s up? You look out of sorts.” Chen Ziqi, who was engrossed in her drama series, looked up and noticed his somber mood and asked.

Chen Xu shook his head, not wanting to discuss the topic, “Let’s do something different today. I bought some clams, I’ll make seafood noodles.”

Chen Ziqi said with an astonished face, “Do you think I’m young and easy to fool? Just a few clams and you call it seafood noodles?”

“Are you going to eat it or not?”

“I’ll eat,” Chen Ziqi said decisively. After spending the last few days with him, she had pretty much figured out his temperament. Sometimes, he could be incredibly irritating. And he’s supposed to be the big brother, too, not knowing how to be considerate of his little sister.

If it weren’t for the sake of the noodles, hmph.

Behind Chen Xu’s back, she raised her little fists and pretended to punch a few times.

The seafood noodles were ready in no time.

Chen Ziqi swiftly devoured a large bowl of noodles, let out a satisfied burp, and, feeling a bit too full, complained, “Why did you make so much? Now I’ve overeaten.”

“Weren’t you just complaining yesterday that there wasn’t enough?” said Chen Xu, who was eating more slowly, still with half a bowl left.

“Yesterday was yesterday, today is today,” insisted Chen Ziqi confidently.

Chen Xu couldn’t be bothered with her and continued eating his noodles.

Chen Ziqi propped her chin with her hands and stared at him for a while, then suddenly said, “I’ve got it, you must be missing a woman.”

Chen Xu still ignored her.

“You’re twenty-five and still don’t have a girlfriend, all alone. It’s honestly quite pitiful.”

Shaking her head, Chen Ziqi added, “Given your standards, coupled with your terrible personality, I guess it’s pretty hard to chase after a girl you like. Sigh, as your sister, I can’t just watch you grow old alone.”

“How about this, I’ll introduce my bestie to you. She’s my classmate, really pretty, and can play the piano. Plus, she’s got long, straight black hair, and lots of guys in our class want to chase her but haven’t succeeded. I’m giving you a bargain because you’re my brother.”

Chen Xu couldn’t help but flick her forehead, “What are you thinking about at your young age?”

“Ugh, it’s just the stuff between men and women, isn’t it? Who doesn’t get that?”

Chen Ziqi covered the spot where she’d been flicked, her face full of dissatisfaction, “Don’t worry, I wouldn’t harm you. She’s already fourteen, so it’s not illegal for you to date her.”

As Chen Xu listened to her getting more and more outrageous, he felt a toothache and said irritably, “I don’t need you worrying about my business. Better take care of your own.”

“Really don’t want her? She has a great figure too, childlike…”

Unable to bear listening any longer, he knocked her on the head again.

“I told you, no hitting my head,” Chen Ziqi said angrily.

“Then stop talking nonsense next time.”
