Chapter 459 458 Chapter: Lakeside in Green Clothes, Painting in Purple Silk
In the Northeast Region, at Tangyuan Immortal City, within the All-World Academy's northeast branch, Yu Qingtan was visiting.
Having come to the Northeast Region, Yu Qingtan was motivated partly by the region's famous cuisine, which she had long wished to try, and partly by a desire to exchange pointers with Venerable Autumn Wind.
The Northeast Region was an area completely dominated by the human race, with several Divine Transformation Level human forces, all of which were righteous forces.
Had the cultivation resources not been far inferior to those of the Eastern Region, the position of the Outer Realm's premier region would not have fallen to the East.
However, the number one expert in the Northeast Region was a loose cultivator, Venerable Autumn Wind, Bei Quifeng.
Bei Quifeng, perhaps cursed by his surname, led a life filled with tragedy.
At the age of three, he lost his father; at five, his mother; taken in by others, only for the foster parents to be killed by bandits when he was eight. Fortunately, he was rescued by a Qi Practitioner who had gone into hermitage from the Mortal Realm, and the Qi Practitioner sent him for spirit testing.
To everyone's astonishment, Bei Quifeng possessed an exceptional single Wind Spirit Root. The Cultivator from the small sect who tested him saw him as a treasure, concealed the news, and took him back to be secretly nurtured. But just as he had completed his Foundation Establishment, his small sect was destroyed by a group of marauding cultivators. Injured, he escaped and became a loose cultivator.
Though he later encountered serendipitous events one after another and his cultivation level increased rapidly, everyone related to him ended up unlucky.
Especially a woman he deeply loved, who favored wearing dresses adorned with violet patterns, died before his eyes during her Nascent Soul Heavenly Tribulation, plunging him into a state of overwhelming grief.
He resolved to have no more dealings with others, becoming a solitary traveler until he became a Venerable in the Divine Transformation Late Stage, retiring to the shore of a lake where his lover's tomb lay.
Many sought him out on account of his reputation, but he ignored them all, though he did not turn them away. Over time, the place where he dwelled gradually became esteemed in the hearts of the cultivators of the Northeast Region. A poem says:
"Autumn winds stir ripples slight, by the lake a figure in green paints violet.
The wandering soul pauses to witness this sight, unwittingly his tears begin to flow."
After completing her visit at the All-World Academy's northeast branch, Yu Qingtan, accompanied by Supreme Elder Ganyu Venerable, Feng Ganyu, arrived at the lakeside where Venerable Autumn Wind resided, because Ganyu Venerable had been friends with Venerable Autumn Wind's lover.
By the Autumn Wind Lakeside, the emerald waves rippled gently, and as the breeze brushed by, it carried a tinge of desolation and solitude. Yu Qingtan and Feng Ganyu stood side by side, watching a white-haired old man fishing by the lake, each lost in their own thoughts.
This old man was Venerable Autumn Wind. They stood quietly, waiting, as Ganyu Venerable knew how much he hated being disturbed while fishing.
They stood for an entire day, until nightfall, when Venerable Autumn Wind finally packed up his fishing gear, ready to return to his abode.
As he passed by them, Ganyu Venerable respectfully saluted and said, "Elder Autumn Wind, long time no see. This is the Southeast Region's Wendao Sect Supreme Elder, respected Elder at All-World Academy, Fairy Qingtan. She has come to visit you!"
Yu Qingtan also saluted respectfully, "Qing Tan greets Venerable Autumn Wind!"
Venerable Autumn Wind, however, remained largely indifferent, glancing at them before speaking somewhat impatiently to Ganyu Venerable, "Didn't I say not to come looking for me? Why have you come again!"
Ganyu Venerable did not take offense when she heard these words. She knew that it was because Venerable Autumn Wind considered himself an ill-omened person, and therefore did not wish Ganyu Venerable to get too involved with him.
"I apologize on behalf of Autumn Wind, it was Qing Tan who insisted on dragging Ganyu into this annoyance. I once heard a tale of a True Immortal who lost his beloved in early years, but eventually mastered the Great Dao of Life and Death, achieved the status of a True Immortal, and resurrected his beloved," Yu Qingtan said with a smile.
"Is there truly such an event?" Venerable Autumn Wind's pupils constricted sharply as he stared at Yu Qingtan and asked.
"I also read about it in an ancient text I found in some ruins. However, given the vast divine powers of True Immortals, I suppose it would be possible to resurrect one or two people."
The clearness in Yu Qingtan's eyes and her delicate features involuntarily led Venerable Autumn Wind to believe her tall tale.
Although he had never heard of any True Immortal who had resurrected someone, the legends of True Immortals were few and far in between to begin with, but they were indeed endowed with vast divine powers.
Little did he know that what Yu Qingtan was recounting was a plot from a cultivation novel she had read in her past life. She, too, had no idea whether True Immortals from Lichuan Cultivation World had the ability to resurrect others.
A glint of hope and unease flickered in Venerable Autumn Wind's eyes as his long-standing loneliness and sorrow seemed to find a possible soothing at this moment.
He took a deep look at Yu Qingtan and then spoke slowly, "Fairy Qingtan, though I have never heard of True Immortals reviving their beloved, if such a thing does exist, it must be the pinnacle of cultivation."
He paused, then continued, "In this life, I may have achieved cultivation, but I have lost too much, and the greatest pain comes from losing the person dear to me. If there should come a day when I reach that realm, even if the price to pay is great, I will resurrect her."
Venerable Autumn Wind exuded an aura that belonged to a late-stage Divine Transformation cultivator, and his fighting spirit was rekindled in his heart.
"Thank you, Fairy Qingtan, for giving me this glimmer of hope. As such, I will go to the Central Domain to pursue the Great Dao of Life and Death. What is it that Fairy Qingtan seeks here?" A look of determination flashed through Venerable Autumn Wind's eyes as he asked.
"I seek only to test my skills with friend Autumn Wind!" Yu Qingtan also displayed the mighty aura of a peak mid-stage Divine Transformation cultivator.
"You are looking for the opportunity to breakthrough into late-stage Divine Transformation, aren't you? Sparring is indeed a good method. I shall accompany you, in the hopes that you will achieve your desire!" said Venerable Autumn Wind, and then his figure soared into the sky, ready to do battle with Yu Qingtan in the high air.
Venerable Autumn Wind's figure traced an elegant arc across the night sky, as light and sharp as the autumn wind sweeping fallen leaves. He was dressed in flowing green robes, his white hair billowed in the wind, like a living ink painting.
Seeing this, Yu Qingtan was not to be outdone. With a light leap, she ascended into the sky to face Venerable Autumn Wind. She was dressed in a pale blue gown, the hem fluttering in the wind. Experience new tales on My Virtual Library Empire
They exchanged glances, words unnecessary. Venerable Autumn Wind made the first move. With a flip of his palm, he gathered a strong wind that turned into a fierce Wind Blade, slashing towards Yu Qingtan.
Yu Qingtan smiled faintly, drew her Five Elements Canglan Sword, and pointed its tip toward the Wind Blade. A burst of Sword Qi instantly exploded, colliding with the Wind Blade. With a loud "boom," both the Wind Blade and the Sword Qi dispersed in the air, neither attack having any effect on the other.
Seeing this, a hint of surprise flashed across Venerable Autumn Wind's eyes. He had not expected Yu Qingtan's cultivation to be so profound that she could effortlessly counter his attack. A surge of combativeness blossomed within him, and he decided he would go all out in this battle with Yu Qingtan.
He drew his Lifebound Artifact, the Autumn Wind Fan, and continued the attack. Although neither had revealed their Origin True Body, they both infused their understanding of Dao into every move and strike.
Venerable Autumn Wind cultivated the Path of the Wind and the Path of Sorrow and was already beginning to touch upon the Great Dao Principles. Yu Qingtan wielded the Way of the Five Elements, which was her fundamental path and the foundation for her breakthrough.
What do you think?
