Chapter 892: Worldview Shattered
The attack speed of the zombie Huahua was undeniably terrifying. If Ling Mo hadn’t already seen her inconvenient leg, he might have suspected that she had evolved spring-like appendages under her feet.
Compared to Huahua, the strength of Ling Mo’s Zombie Puppet was rather disappointing. Unlike the captain he had used at the Second Camp, this Zombie Puppet had very ordinary “genes” and potential. Even if forced to the limit, it was not enough to face Huahua head-on.
In the instant when the scissors aimed at his head, Ling Mo had already come to this conclusion, and his reaction was almost simultaneous.
“Hahaha… you pathetic weakling, just wait to be cut in half! How dare you do such a thing to me? After you die, I will personally swallow your hindbrain! Wait, what are you doing…”
Xiao Yue Er, who had just regained her speech, suddenly cried out in surprise in the midst of her laughter.
With the speed of Ling Mo’s Zombie Puppet, it should have been impossible to dodge the scissors… but he made a move that was more effective than dodging. He swung Xiao Yue Er, whom he was carrying, up as a shield to meet the approaching scissors.
“Ahhhh! Huahua! It’s me! It’s me!” Xiao Yue Er’s tone didn’t carry much fear, but she was still screaming hysterically. She wanted to struggle, but with Ling Mo tightly gripping her legs and her upper body tilted backward, her flailing arms couldn’t even touch a strand of Ling Mo’s hair. Even with the level of an Advanced Zombie, if she couldn’t utilize it, it was meaningless…
“Clang!”
With a timely swing to the side, the cold steel narrowly grazed past Xiao Yue Er’s short hair. Zombie Huahua’s figure suddenly appeared two meters away, staring at Ling Mo with a sullen expression, “You deserve to die! You deserve to die! What you’re doing… it’s just like a human! I hate humans the most. I hate…” Her tone initially sounded like she was muttering to herself, but the last line suddenly escalated, becoming sharp and ear-piercing, “I hate humans the most! Ah!”
Zombie Huahua disappeared again, but Ling Mo had already pressed himself calmly against the wall. At the same time, he firmly held onto Xiao Yue Er’s legs, swinging her quickly in front of him like a shield. His movements were precise and decisive, showing no intention of stopping anytime soon…With her body arched backward, Xiao Yue Er caught sight of Ling Mo’s expressionless face every fraction of a second as he swung her.
“Argh! Damn it… you pathetic… idiot… I swear… Ah! Stop it already!” she screamed.
Ling Mo’s sharp eyes caught the flickering cold glints of light around him, and he calmly said, “Alright, then you go ahead and make her stop.”
“But… but she’s… furious…” Xiao Yue Er stammered between screams. “She won’t… listen to me anymore…”
“But at the very least, she still won’t hurt you, right?” Ling Mo responded.
“That’s true… Hey! What are you planning now?” Xiao Yue Er’s eyes widened as she let out another scream.
“Isn’t it obvious?” Ling Mo said, swinging her while rapidly moving along the wall. “Figuring out a way to survive.”
He hadn’t moved far before his peripheral vision caught sight of a door. Without hesitation, he picked up speed and headed toward it. The moment he burst through the door, he kicked it shut behind him.
“Your little Xiao Yue Er is right behind the door!” Ling Mo shouted loudly.
Still wedged under Ling Mo’s arm, Xiao Yue Er stared at him in shock, stammering, “Y-you’re lying?”
“Of course,” Ling Mo replied matter-of-factly, nodding. “But she doesn’t know that. So, this should buy us at least a few dozen seconds, maybe even a minute.”@@novelbin@@
“You… you… you…” Xiao Yue Er sputtered in disbelief.
Ling Mo quickly scanned the room before bolting toward another door.
“A corridor?”
When the door swung open, what greeted him was another dark, icy corridor. Unlike the one before, however, this one appeared much cleaner. There were no doors lining the sides this time, only a freight-style elevator placed against the wall. The elevator doors looked unusual compared to a standard elevator, with a faded, peeling warning sign plastered on them. It was just barely readable: “Freight only… No passengers allowed…”
“This is a freight elevator!” Ling Mo immediately turned his head to look down the other end of the Corridor. “Does that lead to a warehouse?”
“We can’t go that way!” Xiao Yue Er suddenly shouted.
Ling Mo glanced down at her, only to find that the little zombie quickly averted her gaze, her eyes stubbornly wide open.
“Can you stop with the worldview-shattering expression? And why can’t we go there?” Ling Mo asked.
“There’s just no going there,” Xiao Yue Er muttered, keeping her head down.
“No reason? Then I’m not listening,” Ling Mo said, immediately striding forward.
“Ahhh! No, don’t go!” Xiao Yue Er struggled and protested, “The soldiers can get out early, but it can’t…”
“So that’s how it is…” Ling Mo nodded, but showed no signs of stopping.
Those two doors couldn’t possibly hold back zombie Huahua, and entering here would clearly only cause losses for the Ranch. This was a convenient gain for him, so why would he miss it? ᚱ𝒶NꝊ𐌱ÊS
Unfortunately, Xiao Yue Er didn’t understand this. Even though her Intelligence had evolved quite well, at the core, she couldn’t possess a more mature mindset at the age of six or seven.
“What’s with Huahua? Why does she hate humans?” Ling Mo asked nonchalantly.
Xiao Yue Er looked anxiously at Ling Mo as he moved closer, and instinctively replied, “She was captured…”
“What?”
This truly stunned Ling Mo. He froze for two seconds, then hurriedly asked, “What do you mean by captured?”
“She was caught by humans!” Xiao Yue Er squirmed, saying impatiently, “That’s how her leg got hurt! Those humans always try to sneak in, but ever since Pa Ji showed up, they’ve rarely succeeded…”
“So much information… Who is Pa Ji? The butcher?” Outwardly calm, Ling Mo was eager to communicate with Black Silk in his mind.
“Black Silk, what do you think?” Ling Mo asked, quickly repeating Xiao Yue Er’s statements.
“I’ve got the situation figured out. From Xiao Yue Er’s words, we can easily draw the following four pieces of information…” Black Silk said, almost as if reciting from a newspaper.
“Drop the ‘easily,’ will you? How did you come up with four so quickly?” Ling Mo grumbled. Considering his current state, he indeed didn’t have the extra energy to analyze all this. Plus, leaving such matters to the idle yet quick-thinking Black Silk was really the perfect choice…
“Firstly, this Zombie named Huahua was once captured by humans and suffered irreversible trauma due to various experiences, leading to serious issues both physically and mentally. I’m sure you know, Master, that merely crippling a leg wouldn’t cause Huahua to hold a grudge against humans. After all, in the eyes of Zombies, mutation beasts, or any mutation creature, humans are merely prey,” Black Silk continued. “Please refer to the illustration…”
“Let’s skip the drawings… And why does the simple drawing representing humans look so much like me? And why is there blood all over only the lower half? This is clearly me, isn’t it? It’s me, right?”
“So even if humans resist fiercely, we still view them as merely troublesome prey. Unless there’s some extraordinarily bad memory associated, it’s unlikely to change how a creature perceives its prey. In simple terms, while she used to look at humans from above with drooling admiration, now she adds a hateful gaze to it,” Black Silk concluded.
“…”
“Not interested in that? I’ll keep it brief then. Secondly, the humans who captured Huahua have approached this area multiple times, trying to achieve similar or other goals, possibly with some success. Thirdly, the appearance or birth of Pa Ji has significantly increased the failure rate of these humans. Fourthly, it’s only Pa Ji who’s been stopping these humans; before this, the master here didn’t take action at all… Perhaps out of disdain, or perhaps because they’re unable to act. Either way, it’s good news-maybe we can use this to our advantage… Hey? Master, what are you doing? Hey, hey, don’t cut off so quickly…”
As Black Silk’s voice faded from his mind, Ling Mo let out a sigh.
“So, those two human gestation pods I saw in the infant room… were from their most recently sacrificed members? But what’s going on here? Normally, Survivors would avoid contact with such dangerous Zombies, wouldn’t they? No… I shouldn’t think that way. Take us, for example-our actions would be incomprehensible to ordinary Survivors, yet we still have our own reasons…”
Wait! “Rarely succeeding” …that means they’re still trying, doesn’t it? Maybe even today…
“How often do those humans show up?” Ling Mo asked.
Without hesitation, Xiao Yue Er replied, “I don’t know. If they don’t come in, we wouldn’t know either…”
“So you’re saying that whenever intruders break in, all the Zombies here are aware of it?” Ling Mo pressed, his keen instincts kicking in. He’d already noticed that as long as he didn’t ask particularly sensitive questions, this little Zombie wouldn’t refuse to answer. Perhaps she was even trying to stall for time in a roundabout way, hoping to stop him from entering the warehouse.
Of course, it was just as likely that she was simply a little dim-witted…
“Yeah…” Xiao Yue Er had just answered when she suddenly snapped back to her senses, quickly shaking her head.
But Ling Mo couldn’t help but smirk quietly. His gaze shifted to an Iron Door that had appeared in front of him…
What do you think?
