Chapter 784: Chapter 786: The Mastermind (2)
Qin Zhigu was naturally harassed today as well. After all, the scandal implicated him too. However, things were different for him, he had a studio. When journalists tried to approach him, his staff immediately stopped them. Besides, he was after all Simon White, and the second son of the Qin family, essentially, not someone to be trifarled with. Hence, they had no choice but to go after Lu Weixi, who seemed to lack both money and a notable background.
He didn’t want to respond, nor cared to. However, he did read the scandal piece anyway. Somehow, despite the original post being anonymous, he had the feeling that there was a certain individual behind the article—
Cai Yiren.
Qin Zhigu might lack emotional intelligence, but he was not stupid. The scandalous information, though entirely targeting Lu Weixi, seemed to be something anyone in their circle could know, and at first glance, seemed to contain no inaccuracies. But, it concealed several points.
Firstly, the piece acknowledged her as his ex-girlfriend, which was true. However, it omitted how they broke up – the followed misunderstanding and his premature agreement to date Cai Yiren led to their breakup, which the original post conveniently left out.
Secondly, it mentioned that due to her parents’ divorce, she lost her status as Miss Bai, which was correct. The only issue was that everyone at N University knew that the divorce was due to her father’s infidelity and the woman he was infatuated with was none other than Cai Yiren’s mother.
Thirdly, it was indeed her who stole Fang Rushuang’s boyfriend, but the reason she did so was because of Fang’s father’s meddling in her parent’s divorce proceedings.
With such biased information, there was only one apparent beneficiary—Cai Yiren, or perhaps her mother.
Qin Zhigu suspected as much, but he had already deleted Cai Yiren’s number and severed all contact with her, so he didn’t even have the chance to confront her now.
“Did the reporters harass you today?” Qin Zhigu thought about it, decided to keep his suspicions to himself, and only asked her about the journalists.
Lu Weixi knew from his question that he’d been harassed as well, and nodded, “You too, I guess.”
“I didn’t respond, I had the security block them,” Qin Zhigu stepped forward, “I’m sorry… Yesterday, if I’d pretended not to know you at N University, I wouldn’t have brought this trouble upon you.”
“It’s not your fault.” Since she had chosen to marry Qin Zhiyou, such a day was inevitable. She had already prepared herself for it.
The one thing she was grateful for was that it hadn’t affected her mother. If these journalists had truly gone to the affiliated hospital to harass her mother, she would certainly go berserk!
“I’m really sorry.” If the situation was related to Cai Yiren, he would genuinely feel he had wronged her.
Lu Weixi looked up at him and let out a sincere smile. Initially, when Qin Zhigu came back, she indeed felt slightly upset. But now seeing him, she truly felt that those times were a thing of the past; he was feeling guilty, and that consoled her.
Just as they were talking, the sound of a car horn echoed from below. Lu Weixi recognized it as Qin Zhiyou’s car, she stepped aside, “Thank you.”
She then walked around him and descended the stairs.
Qin Zhigu paused for a moment and followed her down. Reaching the living room, he found that not only Qin Zhiyou had returned, but also Qin Zhizha, whom they hadn’t seen for several days. Upon seeing them, Zhizha smiled, “Oh, isn’t this my second brother and sister-in-law? I hear you two have been making quite the buzz lately, everyone in Yan City knows about you.”
Qin Zhigu’s expression darkened, just as he was about to speak, Qin Zhizha interjected, “Welcome to my engagement party.”
What do you think?
