Chapter 26 - 26 26 Are They Still Human
Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Are They Still Human? Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Are They Still Human? Hearing the name Lu Youxi coming from their mouths could mean nothing good.
So, Lu Youxue quietly hid beneath the window and, to his surprise, overheard such outrageous matters.
After listening enough, only when the Lu Family’s elders and Lu Zhenjia were discussing what to do with the dowry of 100,000 yuan from the Hu Family did Youxue quietly leave.
Once out of the Lu Family’s gate, he sprinted like mad toward his own fields.
There was hardly any breeze in the summer at Hexing Village, but Youxue’s eyes still stung and reddened as the wind hit them.
How could his family behave like this?
How could his grandparents and uncle behave like this?
Are they even human?
Youxue hated his grandparents, hated his uncle.
He was even more heartbroken for Lu Youxi.
Why did Lu Youxi have to be born into their family!
With Lu Youxi’s abilities, if she were born into another family, even an ordinary one, as long as they didn’t have the same gender bias as the Lu Family, she could have lived a better, more comfortable life!
With Youxi’s abilities, she could have carved out a world of her own.
Even knowing that would mean Youxi would no longer be his sister, he would rather she was born into a family that would have given her an easier life, not the Lu Family that sucks the blood of their daughters!
When Youxue was eavesdropping beneath the window, he nearly couldn’t hold back the urge to barge in and confront Lu Zhenjia, wondering why they wanted to harm Youxi instead of Youzhen!
But Youxue restrained himself.
He knew the most urgent matter was to inform Youxi as soon as possible.
He didn’t know what Youxi would do, but he believed she would definitely have a way to resolve this situation.
Somehow, he had this unwavering confidence in Youxi.
Breathless from running to the edge of the fields, upon seeing his parents and Youxi toiling in the field, Youxue called out, “Sis!”
Youxi straightened her back and lifted her face, shielded by a straw hat, to look his way.
“Sis, come over, I have something to tell you,” Youxue shouted, noticing his parents also looking over, he said to Lu Zhenguo and Liu Yushu, “Dad, Mom, I have something to tell Sis.”
Lu Zhenguo nodded, saying to Youxi, “Youxi, go see what it is.”
Setting down her tools, Youxi wiped her hands on the apron tied around her waist, barely clean, and walked over to Youxue.
Youxue glanced back at Lu Zhenguo and Liu Yushu, then pulled Youxi further away.
Lu Zhenguo watched them, chuckling, “Who knows what important thing Youxue has to tell Youxi, making it all secretive.”
“It might not be anything so important, it’s just that the siblings are really close,” Liu Yushu said with a smile.
Lu Zhenguo thought it made sense, the siblings’ relationship had improved a lot compared to before.
Youxue brought Youxi to a secluded spot before he whispered what he’d overheard beneath the window.
Youxue tried to recount the details accurately, without omitting a thing.
He had a good memory; indeed, he restored much of the story.
“Sis, what should we do?” Youxue asked urgently after he finished retelling.
Youxi’s mind was racing.
This was something that had never happened in her past life.
Of course, the encounter with Xu Mai, saving him, and bringing him back to the village hadn’t occurred in her past life either.
In her previous life, there was no person like Xu Mai in her life.
But with only a few thoughts back and forth, Youxi had understood the situation.
In her previous life without Xu Mai, she had to hide her admission notice herself, which almost got destroyed by the Lu Family’s elders and Lu Zhenjia.
There were no rumors with Xu Mai to give Zhenjia an excuse to marry her off to Foolish Hu.
This life, having Xu Mai, Youxi took lessons from her previous experience and had Xu Mai safeguard the admission notice.
Avoid trouble where she could.
Yet, by entrusting Xu Mai with the admission notice this life, it ended up causing gossip, which Lu Zhenjia seized as an opportunity to plot against her afresh.
The village’s loose talk had reached her ears, and without having to look into it, she knew it stemmed from Xiao Fen.
Youxi didn’t trouble Xiao Fen nor did she clarify the rumors; she wanted to use the gossip to put an end to the Lu Family’s elders’ thoughts of marrying her off.
With such gossip, who nearby would want to marry her?
It was a convenient way for her to avoid a lot of trouble.
As for her tarnished reputation, she didn’t care.
Youxi, who died of overwork in her past life and was reborn this life, hated troublesome matters the most.
This life, be it work or personal life, she didn’t want it to be so exhausting.
She just wanted to take better care of her health, live healthily, and live to a ripe old age, not dying so early once again.
Troubles were to be avoided when possible.
Who would have thought it would become even more trouble than her previous life?
After figuring things out, Youxi consoled Youxue, “Don’t rush, let me think it over.”
“Don’t let anyone know I am aware of this situation,” Youxi instructed.
“Of course!” Youxue nodded emphatically.
Seeing Youxi so calm and collected, Youxue also breathed a sigh of relief.
Youxi definitely had a way to handle this.
“But, Sis, why did you directly tell me instead of mentioning it to Dad and Mom first?” Youxi was curious about Youxue’s thinking.
Youxue glanced at their parents working in the distant fields before explaining to Youxi, “Mom is soft-hearted and is surely no match for the grandparents and uncle. Telling her would only make her worry and suffer without a purpose. As for Dad…”
Youxue paused a moment then said, “Dad is filial and has always felt the need to be good to his younger brother as a dutiful elder brother. There’s no guarantee the grandparents and uncle won’t persuade him, so I thought it’s better not to tell him and that we should figure out a way on our own.”
Youxi patted Youxue on the shoulder approvingly, “Our Youxue has grown up.”
Youxue, unlike her, was pampered from childhood at home.
Yet under such circumstances, Youxue could step out of the influence of Lu Zhenguo’s favor, and objectively view Zhenguo’s relationship with the other members of the Lu Family.
In the future, she could rest assured and leave matters to Youxue.
Youxue blushed with the compliment from Youxi, “Sis, I’ve grown up, if there’s anything you need in the future, just tell me, and I’ll take care of it, as long as it’s within my power.”
“Alright,” Youxi pinched Youxue’s cheek.
Youxue was still a child, what could she entrust to him?
However, having Youxue help out at home a bit could work.
“Sis, I’m off to work; you rest, you should use this time to think about what to do,” Youxue said, not waiting for Youxi to reply before heading back to work in the fields.
Youxi didn’t reject Youxue’s kindness.
She did need the time and space to think clearly about how to deal with the trap set by the Lu Family’s elders and Lu Zhenjia.
What do you think?
