Chapter 140: Chapter 139: Golden-Red Slit Pupils (2/3)
“`
Whoosh.
Shao Zifeng grunted, his body exhausted as he leaned against the cold bluestone wall, dotted with droplets of blood.
Sweat mingled with blood trickled down his pale face as he looked down at his chest where a patch of crimson had soaked through his shirt, spreading quickly around it, his slender fingers trembling slightly.
“Miscalculated,” Shao Zifeng shook his head, feeling dizzy from blood loss, with a buzzing in his ears.
Since a while ago, the Nightmare Shadow Servant’s emotions have been nearly uncontrollable, and even after allowing it to attack him twice in a row, it hasn’t calmed down.
Perhaps.
Next time, it might not hold back.
Shao Zifeng calmly watched the shadows flit across the darkness, a thought involuntarily surfacing in his mind.
If he died, he wondered what effect it would have on Qiuqiu and the others in the pet space.
The reason for this thought was that countless people were concerned about this issue, yet there was no clear answer in the academic world, after all… a deceased Combat Training Master couldn’t summon pets.
Suddenly, he remembered something and laughed at himself mockingly. Qiuqiu, that little guy, was different from other pets since childhood; it seemed it could tear through the pet space by itself…
With Qiuqiu there, Lingling and the little deer probably wouldn’t be trapped in there forever, right?
“Hee hee… won’t come out, you still won’t come out,” the Nightmare Shadow Servant repeated these words, then suddenly turned to look at Shao Zifeng: “Boy, go to hell.”
Its bloodshot eyes showed madness as it surged out from the shadows beneath Shao Zifeng’s feet, its ghastly claw piercing through his chest in an instant, tightly grasping his heart.
Shao Zifeng’s complexion turned ashen, feeling an icy breath spreading inside him, his heart slowly freezing, and despite his eyes being open, he couldn’t see a single speck of light.
…
Crack.
The darkness shattered like a mirror, and Shao Zifeng stood on the spot, unharmed.
In his field of view, the Nightmare Shadow Servant’s claw reaching for the Chasing Moon Dog was also frozen mid-air, the Chasing Moon Dog looking at Shao Zifeng, perplexed.
Time seemed to freeze at that moment, with a blur of white light floating between them, ethereal and hazy.
Before Shao Zifeng could take a closer look, a flood of memories crashed into his mind instantaneously, magnifying the fear and pain from those memories, a feeling all too familiar, just like the last time he had experienced an illusion.
Shao Zifeng crouched against the wall with his hands over his head, biting his lip, his body shaking violently.
“Ah!!!!!!!!!!!”
At the same time, the Nightmare Shadow Servant let out a piercing scream, writhing in the shadows, seemingly enduring boundless pain.
Having been dragged into this situation due to its unstable mind, the sudden influx of memories acted like a catalyst, agitating its nerves.
Yet being a mutant creature, and one capable of learning illusion abilities of the spirit type, its adaptation to illusion skills surpassed that of Shao Zifeng, the human, by a great margin.
After enduring the ultimate pain, it suddenly raised its head, its bloodshot eyes glaring at the sphere of light in mid-air, its mouth slowly splitting into a cruel smile: “You couldn’t resist intervening after all!”
No sooner had the words left its mouth, the Nightmare Shadow Servant opened its horrific maw wide and lunged at the orb of light.
“Brr~” The ball of white light seemed to fear the Nightmare Shadow Servant intensely, trembling and at a loss as it faced the gaping maw coming to Devour it. It wobbled like a headless fly, flitting about wildly before, in a moment of panic, it crashed straight into Shao Zifeng’s head.
“`
“Heh heh… still trying to run away? Just become my food obediently!” The Nightmare Shadow Servant was first taken aback, then immediately burrowed into Shao Zifeng’s mind.
“Ah!!!!”
Shao Zifeng, who was already in agony with a splitting headache, rolled his eyes back, veins on his face popping out as he let out a scream of torment.
…
In the unknown space of the Endless Sand Sea, complicated patterns hung half-visible in midair like a transportation hub, with green and scarlet Elemental Energy slowly merging together.
Some changes took place in the volcano cluster at the center of the Endless Sand Sea. At the foot of the mountains, gnarled and twisted thorns sprouted, adding a touch of green to the gloomy monotony of the Black Volcano.
To the east of the volcano group, the forest had long since returned to its original state. A towering tree stood in the center of the forest, its lush canopy blotting out the sun and covering most of the forest.
The sun baked the Endless Sand Sea as the scorching wind swept up whirlwinds of sand, everything as usual.
Boom!
Just then, the elaborate patterns in the sky suddenly contracted like a heart, the originally dim designs now vibrant with fresh color, lush green and fiery red, connecting the volcano group and the forest.
In the central magma pool of the volcano cluster, the churning lava slapped against the stone pillars as usual. The dark rocks that were suppressing Qiuqiu cracked open slightly, revealing the dark red, fearsome Scale Armor on its body.
Qiuqiu, with eyes closed and conserving strength, suddenly opened its eyes, its gold-red vertical pupils igniting with boundless fury.
“Roar!”
At the same time, two angry cries emanated from within the depths of the forest.
…
“Heh heh… stop hiding, you can’t escape.” The shady voice reverberated in the mental space, a place devoid of even a sliver of light, just like the pitch-black of a night where you cannot see your hand in front of you.
The mental space, from a scientific standpoint, does not exist, yet it very much exists deep within every person’s mind.
This place is like a dimension opened up within the body, storing human memory, emotions, consciousness, and even the life source, and it is also where bonds between humans and Mutant Creatures are formed.
Rather than a dimensional space, the mental space is more akin to what is commonly understood as the soul – both resilient and fragile.
It’s called resilient because, given enough time, it can store memories and even other consciousnesses virtually without limit; and it’s called fragile because sometimes a single sentence can utterly destroy a person’s mental space.
The Nightmare Shadow Servant wandered restlessly in Shao Zifeng’s mental space, having been there for so long without finding a trace of that little creature.
After searching for a bit longer, the Nightmare Shadow Servant’s eyes flickered with red light, and it roared in a hoarse, raspy voice, “If you don’t come out, I will shatter this kid’s mental space, and then you all will die.”
The Nightmare Shadow Servant wouldn’t actually do this unless it was absolutely necessary, because what it needed was the pure energy of that little creature. If it shattered the space causing the energy to be contaminated, then everything it had done would be in vain.
The Nightmare Shadow Servant roared incessantly, venting its frustration, when suddenly its body halted as if something had blocked its path.
The Nightmare Shadow Servant’s features twisted, its bloodshot eyes filled with madness as it reached out with its ghostly claws towards what was in front of it.
Boom!
A burst of scarlet firelight erupted, a terrifying aura exploded, and the Nightmare Shadow Servant’s body was instantly pinned in place.
In front of it, the dark space slowly cracked open to reveal a giant, gold-red vertical pupil ablaze with flames.
What do you think?
